CM to inaugurate Vana Mahotsavam in PJTAU today
Addressing the media on Sunday, PJTAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Aldas Janaiah, said that the university has been home to eucalyptus and subabul varieties of trees for decades. In their place, it has been decided to plant rare varieties of trees and traditional wild fruit trees on the campus. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has committed to adopting measures to enhance greenery by planting these trees, he added.
He said the state government has chosen to launch Vanamahotsavam within the university. As part of this initiative, rare varieties of trees such as Jitregi, Bandaru, Somi, Karaka, Tani, Yegisa, Battakadima, Buddarimi, and Punigu, which are rarely found in Telangana's forest areas, will be planted during the program.
He emphasized that decades ago, environmentally harmful trees like subabul and eucalyptus were planted. The auction process for tree removal has been ongoing for the past month and is managed by ITC. The Vice Chancellor urged people not to believe rumors being spread by some individuals about Vanamahotsavam and the false narratives circulating on social media. He reiterated that such claims are untrue and appealed to the public, especially the youth and tree lovers, not to be carried away by misinformation.
He noted that the botanical garden, which had been a source of pride, had suffered neglect over the past 15 years. It had to be closed because trees like subabul and eucalyptus, which are detrimental to the environment, occupied the space. Following the removal of these trees, the HMDA has initiated the planting of saplings of fruit and other beneficial trees. This is part of their broader strategy to clear eucalyptus and subabul trees, ensuring a healthier ecological environment, he noted.

Wyra (Khammam): In a move aimed at promoting environmental awareness and ecological sustainability, ITC's Mission Sunehra Kal (MSK), in collaboration with its implementing partner ARHEDS and in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), celebrated Vana Mahotsavam at the Telangana Social Welfare Residential School and Junior College (TGSWRS/Jr) in Wyra on Monday. Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries underscored the significance of large-scale tree plantation programmes in combating climate change, conserving biodiversity, and promoting community-driven environmental action. Speaking on the occasion, R. Jayaprakash of ITC MSK noted that 'planting native species not only restores ecological balance but also provides a learning opportunity for students to understand the importance of conservation at an early age.' The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who actively took part in the plantation drive and interacted with the guests about environmental issues and sustainability practices. School principal Dr Samatha expressed her appreciation for the initiative, noting that such partnerships create meaningful exposure for students while supporting the state's efforts to promote environmental responsibility. Hyderabad: City braces for hassle-free conduct of Ganesh festival
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner R V Karnan has urged the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi and government officials to extend their cooperation to ensure the forthcoming Ganesh festival is held in a peaceful atmosphere. The festival is scheduled to commence on August 27 and conclude on September 6. On Monday, a preparatory coordination meeting was convened at the GHMC headquarters, involving senior officials from the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi and concerned departments to discuss the arrangements for the festival. Karnan stated that repairs are currently underway for roads that were damaged by heavy rains within the city limits. He added that roads on the national highways where Ganesh idol processions are set to occur will also be repaired. Furthermore, he indicated that more cranes will be deployed than last year to facilitate a smooth and swift immersion process, following directives from the police department. The Commissioner informed the members of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi that there are no budgetary issues for the festival, and additional funds will be allocated compared to previous years for various activities and logistical support. Karnan mentioned that coordination meetings will take place within zonal limits to ensure the festival runs smoothly and that past shortcomings would be addressed to prevent inconvenience to devotees. Additional Commissioner (Law & Order) Vikram Singh Mann proposed several recommendations to ensure the Ganesh festival runs smoothly. He noted that each year, the festival is celebrated without issues thanks to the collaboration between Bhagyanagar, various Ganesh Utsav Samitis, and government departments. He emphasised the importance of using high-quality materials, wiring, and logistics for the construction of Ganesh pandals and mandapams, especially considering the likelihood of heavy rainfall. Vikram Singh requested that the installation of idols be planned according to the route map and vehicle height in advance, to prevent complications and traffic congestion caused by tall idols during the procession. He requested the installation of at least one CCTV camera at every mandapam and emphasised the need for utilising volunteer services, suggesting a minimum of three volunteers for larger mandapams. Additionally, he proposed that distinct routes be established for visitors to these larger mandapams. The officer also mentioned that if all Ganesh idol processions throughout the city, including those in Khairatabad and Balapur, commence punctually, the immersion process will proceed without any issues. The meeting saw the presence of numerous officials, including Traffic Joint CP Joel Davis, Additional Commissioners Raghu Prasad and Subhadra, HMDA Joint Commissioner Kota Srivastava, CE Ratnakar, Electrical CE Prabhakar, and Zonal Commissioners Anurag Jayanthi, Ravi Kiran, Venkanna, Hemant Sahadeva Rao, and Apoorva Chauhan. Representatives from HMDA, HMRL, TSRTC, Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda Commissionerate Police, along with officials from the HMWSSB, Fire, Irrigation, Tourism, Health, Pollution Control Board, and Transco departments, were also present.

Gaddam inaugurates modernised MP school
Mancherial: Labour Minister Gaddam Vivekananda inaugurated the modernised Mandal Parishad Primary School building in Kakatiya Colony of Mandamarri Mandal on Saturday. The Minister alongside District Collector Kumar Deepak, DCP A Bhaskar, and District Education Officer S Yadayya distributed school bags and books to students, who also participated in the Vanamahotsavam programme on the school premises. Addressing the gathering, Gaddam stated that the government is committed to strengthening the education and healthcare sectors by providing quality education in all government schools with full facilities, and by upgrading government hospitals and primary health centres to offer better medical services to the public. The Minister also attended a ration card distribution eventheld on the school grounds, along with Mandal Tahsildar Satish Kumar and Kyathanpalli Municipal Commissioner Raju. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized the importance of education in human life. He said the government, through the Amma Adarsha Schools Committee, is ensuring that all government schools are equipped with drinking water, electricity, toilets, and other facilities, and that qualified teachers are appointed to deliver quality education.
