"Virginia Tech was actually on my sideline recruiting our running back," Oliver told said, according to WRAL News.
The running back wasn't named, but Oliver said it was a player that ended up transferring to Virginia. J'Mari Taylor was the team's leading rusher in 2024 and is now with the Cavaliers.
Oliver recalled assistant coaches were trying to calm him down about the situation but he was agitated by seeing the Virginia Tech staff member. In that game, Taylor ran for a season-high 206 yards and three touchdowns in a victory.
After Oliver's comments, Virginia Tech released a statement that it reviewing the accusations.
"This is the first time the issue has been brought to our attention, and no concern has previously been shared with us through any formal channel," the statement read. "Virginia Tech takes all NCAA rules seriously and is committed to conducting our program with integrity. We are reviewing the matter internally and will address any findings appropriately."
After the alleged incident, Oliver was glad to see his player not end up with the Hokies, and hopes Virginia "kick Virginia Tech's butt." Taylor is expected to have a major role in Virginia's offense.

ESPN's Analytics Has One SEC Program as Long Shot to Make College Football Playoff
ESPN's Analytics Has One SEC Program as Long Shot to Make College Football Playoff originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Florida Gators are 19-19 in three seasons under head coach Billy Napier, who just went 8-5 in 2024. Now, the Gators have something else in their sights. Since its introduction to college football in 2014, Florida has never made the College Football Playoff. The format changed to allow 12 teams last season. ESPN's Analytics predicted each team's chances of making the CFP and gave Florida the lowest odds in the SEC, at 14.5%. While Florida appears to be taking a step in the right direction under Napier, it has been a challenging ride recently. The Gators' last 11-win season was in 2019 under former head coach Dan Mullen. Florida's path to the CFP is not an easy one either. The Gators have the most challenging schedule in college football again, much like last season. The program opens with Long Island and USF in its first two games before facing the LSU Tigers in Death Valley for its conference opener. Florida is then back on the road again, taking on in-state rival the Miami Hurricanes. Other crucial games for the Gators will be against the Texas Longhorns and the Georgia Bulldogs. Another potential problem could be the health of starting quarterback DJ Lagway. Lagway began training camp in a boot after a minor calf injury. He was eventually seen without the boot a few days later. If Lagway's injury problems persist during the season, it could be a long year for Florida. ESPN's Matt Barrie issued a warning about Lagway's health on a recent episode of "Always College Football." In recruiting, Florida has impressed with four-star edge rusher Mekai Brown, who hopes to return to Gainesville for a visit soon. Florida's season opener with Long Island is set for August story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 2, 2025, where it first appeared.

Preseason US LBM Coaches Poll breakdown by conference
Big Ten is second to SEC in preseason coaches poll You know the start of a new college football season is just weeks away when the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll hits the wire. Perhaps to the surprise of nobody in this day and age, the Big Ten and SEC claimed a combined 15 of the 25 spots in this season's preseason ranking. With Notre Dame filling one of the spots, that left just nine additional spots in the preseason coaches poll to be filled by the other conferences. Here is a look at how each conference was represented in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll for the 2025 season. Mountain West Conference: 1 team No. 25 Boise State After representing the Mountain West Conference in the College Football Playoff last season, Boise State is looking to do so one more time before heading off to the Pac-12 next year. The Broncos are the only school from one of the non-power conferences to make an appearance in the preseason coaches poll. ACC: 3 teams No. 6 Clemson, No. 10 Miami, No. 16 SMU The ACC landed three teams in this year's preseason coaches poll. The two teams that played for the ACC title last year, Clemson and SMU, and Miami all earned a preseason ranking from the coaches. Clemson, the defending ACC champion, leads the conference with the No. 6 ranking. Big 12: 5 teams No. 11 Arizona State, No. 20 Kansas State, 21 Iowa State, No. 23 BYU, No. 24 Texas Tech The Big 12 comes in heavy toward the bottom of the top 25 ranking, but Arizona State comes just shy of a top-10 preseason ranking. The Sun Devils, the defending Big 12 champions, are coming off a surprise College Football Playoff appearance last season and are looking to prove it was no fluke in their second year in their new conference home. Big Ten: 6 teams No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Penn State, No. 7 Oregon, No. 12 Illinois, No. 14 Michigan, No. 19 Indiana The Big Ten is well-represented in the preseason coaches poll with six members ranked, and three within the top-10. Ohio State and Penn State take two of the top-three spots in the poll, while defending Big Ten champion Oregon comes in at no. 7 to start the season. Indiana earned the respect of the voters after their run to a playoff spot last season. Illinois does not look like quite the under-the-radar team some may have counted on them being this season, with a very respectable preseason ranking in the top-15, a couple of spots ahead of Michigan. SEC: 9 teams No. 1 Texas, No. 4 Georgia, No. 8 Alabama, No. 9 LSU, No. 13 South Carolina, No. 15 Ole Miss, No. 17 Florida, No. 18 Tennessee, No. 21 Texas A&M The SEC leads all conferences with nine schools ranked in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll this season, with the Texas Longhorns leading the way at the top of the poll overall with 28 first-place votes. The SEC has made a habit of filling the most spots in the preseason rankings over the years, so it is no surprise to see that be the case this season as the conference came within 25 points of getting the 25th-ranked team at the bottom (Oklahoma was beat out by Boise State for the last spot). Of course, the preseason rankings are one thing. The Big Ten had two semifinal teams in the playoff last year and has had the national champion each of the past two seasons. And the stage is officially set for a Week 1 battle between the top two teams in the country when Ohio State faces Texas. The Big Ten vs. SEC talk will be piping hot all week for that one. Pro Football Focus provides odds for MSU to reach College Football Playoff
Pro Football Focus (PFF) is giving Michigan State essentially no chance at reaching the College Football Playoff in 2025. While I'm personally bullish on the Spartans and think they have the ceiling potential to contend for a spot in the College Football Playoff, that is simply not the case with PFF. The well-known football rating site is giving the Spartans a 2% chance of reaching the College Football Playoff this fall. There Spartans' 2% chance of reaching the College Football Playoff from PFF is tied for the lowest in the Big Ten. Michigan State is tied with Northwestern and Purdue for the longest odds of reaching the College Football Playoff. Michigan State comes into this season with a win total over/under of 5.5 so simply reaching a bowl game is the first and most realistic goal for the Spartans. But I'm still surprised to see teams such as UCLA, Maryland and Wisconsin having better odds from PFF than the Spartans.
