Opposition hits out at Oil Ministry's poster featuring Savarkar and Gandhi
Congress general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal said it is yet another attempt to 'distort' history and make heroes out of 'traitors'.
In a post on X, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas posted a picture featuring the faces of Savarkar, Gandhi, Subhas Chandra Bose and Bhagat Singh with the caption — 'Freedom was their gift, shaping the future is our mission'.
'As we celebrate our nation's independence, let's remember — liberty thrives when we nurture it every day, through unity, empathy, and action. Happy Independence Day,' the Ministry said.
Hitting out at the government, Mr. Venugopal said: 'Every Independence Day, the Modi-led BJP makes it a point to distort history and make heroes out of traitors. This Orwellian image, elevating a British mercy petitioner like Savarkar over Gandhi ji - the undisputed Mahatma who got us freedom, and completely eliminating Pandit Nehru and Sardar Patel ji, shows their contempt for our freedom fighters.'
'What else can one expect from those whose forefathers collaborated with the British to sow the seeds of division and hatred that haunts us to this very day?' he said.
Congress' media and publicity department head Pawan Khera also in a post in Hindi said: 'While mixing ethanol in petrol, now you've started mixing impurities even in freedom fighters. Those who couldn't become great in history, you're making them big on posters. The country is asking you for cheaper oil, not cheap comedy.'
CPI(M) MP John Brittas also slammed the Oil Ministry's post. 'The deliberate elevation of Savarkar over Gandhi is not a coincidence but a calculated act. The government's actions undermine the nation's commitment to its secular Constitution. It is pertinent to note that Savarkar was an accused in Gandhi's assassination, though acquitted due to insufficient evidence,' Mr. Brittas said in a post on X.
The BJP hit back at the Congress, with BJP general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santhosh responding to Mr. Khera's post saying: 'Sick brigade to the core...Veer Savarkar lived and died for the country.'

MP: Congress elevates Jaivardhan Singh in strategic push
Bhopal: In a move that underscores its intent to rejuvenate grassroots leadership ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections, the Madhya Pradesh Congress on Friday announced a fresh roster of District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents. Among the newly appointed leaders, the elevation of Jaivardhan Singh — son of senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh — stands out as a key strategic decision. Jaivardhan Singh, a sitting MLA and former cabinet minister in the Kamal Nath-led government, has been named president of Guna district, a region long associated with his family's political legacy. Widely regarded as a rising figure within the party's youth leadership, Singh's appointment is seen as a deliberate move to inject fresh energy into the Congress's organisational machinery while reinforcing its presence in a constituency that has witnessed electoral volatility in recent years. Two other former ministers have also been entrusted with district-level responsibilities; Priyavrat Singh will lead the party in Rajgarh, while Omkar Singh Markam takes charge of Dindori. Party sources indicate that these appointments are part of a broader strategy to balance experience with generational renewal, particularly in districts where the Congress has faced organisational drift and electoral setbacks. The appointments were formally approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and announced by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal. The selection process involved extensive consultations with local party workers, senior state leaders, and district-level reviews conducted by AICC observers. The party emphasised that the reshuffle adheres to democratic norms and reflects internal consensus. State Congress leaders have welcomed the new appointments with optimism. Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Jitu Patwari lauded the move as a decisive step in the party's 'Organisation Creation Campaign.' In a post on his X handle, Patwari wrote, "To all the district presidents of Madhya Pradesh, heartfelt congratulations! The journey ahead is decisive. We must remain committed to public welfare, oppose political oppression, and prioritise the concerns of youth, farmers, Dalits, tribals, and women. Together, we will strengthen the hands of Rahul Gandhi and lay a new foundation for Congress in Madhya Pradesh. I am confident that our collective efforts will lead to a Congress government in 2028." Political analysts view the reshuffle as a calculated effort to reinvigorate the party's district-level apparatus and shape local narratives in the run-up to the polls. With Assembly elections looming, the Congress appears intent on consolidating its organisational strength through a blend of seasoned leadership and youthful dynamism.

Rahul Gandhi to embark on 16-day 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar from Sunday
Synopsis Rahul Gandhi is set to launch a 16-day 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' from Sasaram, Bihar, covering 1,300 km to Patna, aiming to protect voting rights. The Congress underlined what it said was a BJP conspiracy to disenfranchise marginalised communities through electoral roll revisions. ANI Rahul Gandhi Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will on Sunday begin his 16-day-long 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' from Sasaram in poll-bound Bihar. The Yatra will cover 1,300 kilometres and will conclude with a mega rally in Patna on September 1, where leaders of various INDIA parties would attend. Sharing details of his Yatra in a post on X, Gandhi said, "16 days. 20+ districts. 1,300+ kms. We are coming among the people with the Voter Rights Yatra." "This is the fight to protect the most fundamental democratic right - 'one person, one vote.' Join us in Bihar to save the Constitution," Gandhi said. Party spokesperson Pawan Khera told reporters that this Yatra will be yet another milestone in the democratic history of India. "Whenever Rahul Gandhi has embarked upon such a march, democracy has turned a new page," he said, adding that "The Yatra will be a historic journey, which will prove to be a milestone in the fight for the existence of all of us". Giving details, he said, besides Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav, other partners of the INDIA bloc will also be part of the Yatra. Khera alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls had exposed the BJP's designs to disenfranchise lakhs of voters belonging to the Dalit, Adivasi and minority communities, the poor and daily wagers. He alleged that it was a conspiracy to not only steal the votes, but also steal the identity. "Today they will snatch the underprivileged people's right to vote, tomorrow they will refuse them the share in government schemes like free food and housing," he warned, while claiming that the conspiracy was much deeper. Training his guns on the Election Commission (EC), Khera said, the EC is becoming like one of the "train bogeys" of the so-called "double engine", asserting that it is not acceptable and the Congress will not let that happen. "The Election Commission becoming just a compartment of this 'double engine' - this is something we will not accept. We are fighting against this and will continue to do so in the future. "We urge the people of Bihar that this is a journey for your rights and entitlements. Join this journey so that democracy can find direction from Bihar," he said. Khera said that after the people of Bihar, activists, and the Congress and INDIA bloc workers raised their voice against the SIR, the EC was forced to do a course correction. He said it was only after the intervention by the Supreme Court that the national poll body was compelled to address the concerns of common people and voters. The 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' is aimed at ensuring awareness and alertness among the common people so that the Modi government's conspiracy to deny voting rights to the people of Bihar does not fructify, the Congress leader asserted.

‘Rahul-Jinnah party': BJP on Congress's objections to NCERT's partition module
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia on Saturday hit out at Congress for raising objections over NCERT's introduction of a new module on the partition, and said that the "Rahul-Jinnah" party was upset about the truth coming out. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia claimed that Rahul Gandhi and Mohammad Ali Jinnah have become synonymous(ANI File) Attacking the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Bhatia claimed that Rahul Gandhi and Mohammad Ali Jinnah have become synonymous with each other. Jinnah's poisonous thinking of appeasement and communalism can be seen in Rahul Gandhi and the Congress, he added. "NCERT has made some changes in the textbooks, and the truth of partition has been added. The 'Rahul-Jinnah' party is very upset with the truth coming out. Rahul Gandhi and Mohammad Ali Jinnah have the same thinking. They have become synonymous with each other. India was partitioned on the basis of religion, and Jinnah's poisonous thinking of appeasement can be seen in Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party today," Bhatia said while addressing a press conference. He accused the Congress of advocating for reservations on the basis of religion and wishing for Sharia law to be implemented. "The Congress party also says that reservations should be based on religion, which Jinnah also said. The Congress party also says that Sharia law should be implemented in the country. The coming generations should know the truth of partition," Bhatia said. His reaction comes after Congress leader Pawan Khera strongly criticised NCERT's newly released module on partition, alleging it has sought to distort history and erase the RSS' "villainous role" during the events of Partition. He further alleged that the reason for partition was the collaboration between the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League. "Set this book on fire if it doesn't contain all of this. This is the reality. The partition happened due to the collaboration between the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League. If there is any greatest villain in history, it is the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)," Khera said in a press conference. He accused the RSS of working as "informants" during that period. "Generations will not forgive the role they played. They spent 25 years of that time acting as informants. And in that espionage, they collaborated further--with the Muslim League, with Jinnah. Advani himself went to Jinnah's tomb, to bow down, to express gratitude," Khera added. The Congress leader said the material being taught through NCERT is being politically interfered with. The NCERT's introduction of a new module that blames Congress, Jinnah and Louis Mountbatten for the partition has sparked a major political controversy. The module argues that Congress leadership in the past "accepted the plans of Partition" and "underestimated Jinnah" while failing to anticipate the long-term horrors that followed. (ANI)
