Punjab Police have arrested an alleged spy with strong connections to Pakistan's spy agency ISI and a top Khalistani terrorist, Gopal Singh Chawla, the state police chief said on Tuesday. The accused has allegedly shared critical information about Army movements with agents across the border for years, including during Operation Sindoor. The arrested accused, Gagandeep Singh, leaked sensitive classified information, including details of troop deployments and strategic locations, posing a serious threat to national security, officials said.advertisement"Preliminary investigation reveals that Gagandeep Singh had been in touch with Pakistan-based Khalistani terrorist Gopal Singh Chawla for the past five years, through whom he was introduced to the Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). He also received payments from PIOs via Indian channels," the Director General of Punjab Police, Gaurav Yadav, said.
According to police, the mobile phone recovered from him revealed critical information about the intelligence he shared with his Pakistan agents, and he had over 20 ISI contacts. Thorough financial and technical investigations are underway to trace other linkages and establish the full scope of this espionage network, the DGP added.Punjab Police alleged that the Khalistani terrorist Gopal Chawla, who is currently in Pakistan, has been running a spying racket in India in collaboration with the ISI and was actively engaged in espionage during Operation Sindoor, India's retaliatory action after the Pahalgam terror attack. Chawla is also linked to terror networks in Pakistan and has been photographed with Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed.

The minister highlighted the potential to further strengthen bilateral ties through 'reforms, stability, innovation, and enhanced market access to the EU and Indian markets.' Paris : French Foreign Trade Minister Laurent Saint-Martin on Tuesday reaffirmed the 'conviction' that France is one of 'India's best economic partners' after his meeting with Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in Paris. Following his meeting with Goyal, Saint-Martin also expressed optimism about the ongoing India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, anticipating a possible agreement in the coming weeks or months. 'It's important to demonstrate that we believe in free trade, not trade wars,' he stressed. 'Minister Goyal arrived with a strong business delegation – over 50 companies, which is significant. At a time when global trade is facing challenges, we believe it's crucial for India and France to strengthen their ties… The European Union and India are progressing toward a Free Trade Agreement, and as a member of the European Commission, we fully support this… I'm optimistic that we could see an agreement in the coming weeks or months… It's important to demonstrate that we believe in free trade, not trade wars,' the French Minister told reporters. He emphasised the importance of fostering deeper cross-border trade and investments between the two nations. 'At the same time, we must foster deeper bilateral relations between France and India, which means enhancing cross-investments, more cross-border trade… All the friendship that President Macron and PM Modi have will, of course, help our bilateral relations to go deeper now,' he added. Earlier on Monday, the Union Minister held a productive meeting with French Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, Eric Lombard, focusing on deepening the India-France economic partnership with an emphasis on trade, investments, and technology cooperation. The discussions, which took place during Goyal's three-day official visit to France, also reviewed the progress of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, signalling a strong intent to bolster bilateral ties amidst a shared commitment to innovation and economic growth. Exchanged views on deepening our economic partnership, enhancing trade & investments with a special focus on technology and innovation across key sectors. Also discussed the progress of the India-EU FTA negotiations. Looking forward to stronger India-France economic ties,' Goyal said in a post on X. He also expressed optimism that India could finalise its Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union (EU) ahead of the year-end deadline, citing minimal divergences between the two economic blocs. Goyal also held a series of high-level meetings in Paris with top French CEOs to explore new opportunities for India's growth across key sectors such as renewable energy, automobile manufacturing, electric vehicles (EVs), and consumer products. Bilawal Bhutto seeks dialogue with India, intel sharing to combat terrorism

The Pakistani side has suffered great losses after it attempted to target Indian defence and civil installations in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor. Bhutto, who served as the Foreign Minister earlier, addressed a briefing at the UN Headquarters in New York and sought reconciliation with India, making a plea for talks and Intel sharing between the two neighbours. New York: On a day that the Indian all-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor arrived in Washington, DC as part of the global outreach on Operation Sindoor, Pakistan's delegation led by Bilawal Bhutto was in New York to try to push its case. As per an ongoing analysis of the damage inflicted upon by the Indian Air Force on Pakistan Air Force, it is emerging that 6 PAF fighter jets, two high-value aircraft, over 10 UCAVs, one C-130 transport aircraft, along with multiple cruise missiles, were destroyed by Indian air-launched cruise missiles and surface-to-air missiles. Now Bhutto wants to go back to diplomacy and dialogue, emphasising that it was the only viable path to peace. 'Pakistan would still like to cooperate with India to combat terrorism. We can't leave the fate of 1.5 billion, 1.7 billion people in the hands of non-state actors and terrorists,' he said. 'For them to decide, at a whim, that (when these) two nuclear-armed powers will go to war.' This statement, in effect, gives credence to India's stand that terror operatives based in Pakistan had planned the Pahalgam attack that saw the killing of 26 innocent people. India has also publicly stated that any further terrorist activity would warrant similar action. But Bhutto stressed the need for a dispute resolution mechanism. You can't have no dispute resolution mechanisms between two nuclear-armed countries,' he said. Ironically, Bhutto also suggested cooperation between Pakistan and India's intelligence agencies to take on terrorism in South Asia. 'I am completely confident that if ISI and RAW were ready to sit down and work together to fight these forces, we would see a significant decrease in terrorism in both India and Pakistan,' he said. Bhutto's placatory stance shows how deeply Pakistan has been affected by the strikes carried out during Operation Sindoor and Pakistan's need to seek peace in these circumstances.
