Paige Bueckers says Black women are undercovered by sports media
In a recent interview, WNBA star Paige Bueckers addressed racial disparities in media coverage of women's basketball. To be specific, Bueckers said that Black female athletes are undercover and do not get the visibility white female athletes do.The No. 1 overall pick for the Dallas Wings stressed that Black women athletes continue to receive less media attention than white athletes, even with some improvements. This is not the first time the athlete has addressed this issue. During the 2021 ESPY Awards acceptance speech, Bueckers highlighted the limited media coverage for Black women in sports.Bueckers had mentioned that Black athletes frequently dominate in performance, but their media visibility doesn't reflect their contributions. She reiterated this point in her recent interview and said, "It's still an issue, every single day. There's not ever equal coverage." The media coverage gap is particularly clear in the WNBA, a league primarily made up of Black women.Despite this, white players like Bueckers and Caitlin Clark often receive more media attention. Bueckers acknowledged this imbalance, "I feel like I've worked extremely hard, blessed by God. But I do think there's more opportunities for me. I feel like even just marketability, people tend to favor white people, white males, white women."The underrepresentation of Black women in sports media has wider consequences, affecting the visibility of their achievements and the stories told about their careers. During the ESPY Awards, Bueckers had said, 'With the light that I have now as a white woman who leads a Black-led sport, and celebrated here, I want to show a light on Black women."'They don't get the media coverage that they deserve. They've given so much to the sport, and the community, and society as a whole, and their value is undeniable. …She further added, 'Sports media holds the key to storylines. Sports media and sponsors tell us who is valuable, and you have told the world that I matter today. And everyone who voted, thank you. But I think we should use this power together to also celebrate Black women.'

Pat Cummins' Australia denied access to Lord's two days before WTC final over India training — what is the controversy?
Australia and South Africa are all set to lock horns in the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-2025, which will begin on 11 June. With the clock ticking on the final clash, a controversy erupted when the Pat Cummins-led side was not permitted to train at Lord's on Saturday, reported FoxCricket. According to the report, Australia are in London to play for the WTC title but were booted from their planned training session at Lord's. The reason? The Indian cricket team was granted access to the hallowed ground instead. Though India failed to qualify for the WTC race back in January, they managed to muscle their way into the Lord's on Saturday and the Australian players had to look for alternative facilities. As Lord's was reportedly unavailable for the Australians, Josh Hazlewood, Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green were forced to make a three-hour round trip to Beckenham in South London to train. The Indian cricket team won't play at Lord's until 10 July. However, giving them a full session at the venue has ignited a controversy. Some even pointed out India's influence on the world's cricket. India will be playing a 5-match Test series with England, beginning 20 June and concluding on 27 July. India will be led by Shubman Gill this time as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin have announced their retirement. Rishabh Pant has been announced as India's vice-captain. Meanwhile, Australian skipper Pat Cummins did not make it a big deal, but during the press conference on Monday, he wished for better treatment at the Lord's. The Lord's, considered to be a Mecca of cricket, is where Australia and South Africa will clash for the WTC 2024-25 finals. 'There's no one around, which is great. I'm sure it will be much more civil this time around. Things got pretty heated in the middle of that Ashes series, but I think a lot of them will have learned their lesson and I'm sure they'll be very polite,' Cummins said while speaking to FoxSports.

But who exactly is this towering defenseman now running the show for the Florida Panthers? Let's break it down. Here are 5 must-know facts about Seth Jones, the NHL star turning heads with every playoff shift. 1. His dad played in the NBA and helped shape his discipline Seth comes from serious athletic genes. His father is Popeye Jones, a former NBA player who spent over a decade in the league with teams like the Mavericks, Warriors, and Nuggets. But here's the cool part: when young Seth showed interest in hockey instead of basketball, Popeye asked NHL pros for advice on how to help his son succeed in another pro sport. That's parenting on Hall of Fame mode. — BR_OpenIce (@BR_OpenIce) 2. He was once the most-hyped American defenseman in his draft class Jones was a big deal before he ever played a second of NHL hockey. Leading up to the 2013 NHL Draft, he was projected to go No. 1 overall after a dominant season with the Portland Winterhawks and a gold medal with Team USA at the World Juniors. He ended up going 4th overall to the Nashville Predators, which surprised many but even then, everyone knew he had superstar potential. 3. He's one of the highest-paid defensemen in the NHL In 2021, while playing for the Chicago Blackhawks, Jones signed a massive 8-year, $76 million contract, making him one of the top-paid blue-liners in the league. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo His average annual value is $9.5 million, and his current deal runs through the 2029–30 season. So yeah, he's cashing playoff checks and long-term money. 4. He's one of the few Black American stars in the NHL Jones is part of a small but growing group of Black players making waves in professional hockey. He's spoken openly about representation in the sport and has become a role model for young players of color who don't often see themselves reflected on NHL rosters. His success is helping shift the game's culture both on and off the ice. 5. He's having a redemption arc moment with the Panthers After getting traded from Chicago to Florida at the 2025 trade deadline, Jones has gone full beast mode. He's leading the Panthers in minutes, scored a crucial Game 2 goal against Edmonton, and has become a defensive rock when it matters most. Now, with a Stanley Cup run in full swing, Seth Jones is silencing critics and proving why he was so hyped in the first place. Whether you're a longtime fan or just hearing about him for the first time, one thing's clear: Seth Jones is having a moment. And if the Panthers go all the way, you'll be hearing his name a lot more and not just from NHL Network.
