Ajax's Wout Weghorst, who was once called a ‘fool' by Lionel Messi, angrily shoves away camera from face after conceding league to PSV
Wout Weghorst, who is famous for his spat with Lionel Messi in the 2022 World Cup where he was called a fool by the Argentinian after a Netherlands vs Argentina match, grabbed headlines once again when shoved the camera away from himself in a burst of anger in a recent match for Ajax against FC Twente.
Weghorst's anger was understandable because Ajax conceded the league title to PSV after a late-season meltdown which couldn't be saved by a win in the final round. PSV retained the title by beating Sparta Rotterdam 3-1, with United States midfielder Malik Tillman scoring the third goal to settle any nerves with Ajax playing — and winning — its match taking place at the same time.
Ajax won 2-0 at home to FC Twente but that wasn't enough for the Amsterdam club, which finished a point behind PSV despite holding a nine-point lead with five games remaining. Then Ajax went on a four-match winless run that included two losses and two draws – an epic collapse that allowed PSV to make up the deficit in dramatic fashion and, ultimately, clinch a 26th Eredivisie title.

'He sees that I'm in tears and comes to me,' Weghorst said in De Telegraaf. 'That's emotion.'
Last Sunday, PSV's title chances looked all but over when the defending champions trailed by two goals after 10 minutes at third-placed Feyenoord. The score was 2-2 before Noa Lang's goal in the ninth minute of stoppage time sealed a 3-2 win. Ajax then slumped to a 3-0 loss at home to mid-table NEC Nijmegen, setting up more late drama Wednesday — when Ajax conceded a goal in the ninth minute of stoppage time at Groningen to draw 2-2.
PSV, led by former Ajax coach Peter Bosz, was suddenly in first place — for the first time since February — by a point and that's how it stayed. PSV won its last seven games to capitalize on Ajax's wobble in its first season under 36-year-old coach Francesco Farioli, who was looking to lead the team to a record-extending 37th Eredivisie crown.

Uzbekistan qualifies for FIFA World Cup for the first time after draw against UAE
Uzbekistan qualified for the World Cup for the first time on Thursday as a 0-0 draw with the United Arab Emirates confirmed the nation's progress to next year's finals as Australia and Jordan moved to the verge of booking berths in North America. Aziz Behich's 90th-minute strike earned the Socceroos a 1-0 win over already-qualified Japan in Perth in Group C to keep Tony Popovic's side three points clear of Saudi Arabia, which won 2-0 against Bahrain in Riffa. Goals from Musab Al-Juwayr and Abdulrahman Al-Obud earned Saudi Arabia a victory that puts Australia's celebrations on hold until the two nations meet in Jeddah on Tuesday. But Australia's vastly superior goal difference means it can lose that meeting with the Saudis by up to four goals and still advance to a sixth consecutive World Cup finals as second-placed finisher behind the Japanese. ALSO READ | All eyes on Lionel Messi as Argentina takes on Chile in World Cup 2026 qualifier Jordan also moved to the cusp of qualification as Ali Olwan's hat-trick delivered a 3-0 win over Oman in Muscat to leave Jamal Sellami's side waiting for the result from South Korea's clash with Iraq in Basra later on Thursday in Group B. Uzbekistan goalkeeper Utkir Yusupov made a string of second-half saves in Abu Dhabi to frustrate the UAE and earn his nation its first World Cup qualification since the country gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Abbosbek Fayzullaev had hit the crossbar with a 54th-minute header for the visitor, but it was Yusupov who frustrated the Cosmin Olaroiu-coached Emiratis, which needed to win to maintain its hopes of automatic qualification. The draw means the UAE will now progress to the fourth round of qualifying as the point earned guarantees a third- or fourth-placed finish in Group A.

RCB Victory Parade Stampede Causes Internet Storm
Bengaluru: The Karnataka government's celebratory zeal turned into a tragic nightmare as a stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL 2025 victory parade claimed 11 lives and injured 33 others near M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Congress-led administration, under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is now under intense scrutiny for its alleged insensitivity and negligence, with netizens and opposition leaders alike slamming the government for prioritising political mileage over public safety. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many holding the government directly responsible for the preventable tragedy. RCB's first IPL title win in 18 years was a historic moment for fans, culminating in a victory over Punjab Kings by 6 runs on June 3. The Karnataka government which was seen eager to bask in the glory of Bengaluru's triumph, rushed to organise a victory parade within 12 hours of the win. It is a stark contrast to other IPL teams like KKR, MI, and CSK, which held their parades 2-3 days later with proper planning, and the Indian T20 World Cup team, which waited 5 days. The parade, which began at Vidhana Soudha and was meant to culminate at Chinnaswamy Stadium, drew an estimated 2-3 lakh fans, far exceeding the stadium's capacity of 35,000. The situation spiralled out of control when a small gate at the stadium was breached, leading to a deadly stampede. The outrage on social media has been palpable, with netizens demanding accountability from the Congress government. The opposition BJP has also seized the opportunity to criticise the government, with leaders like Amit Malviya labeling the incident as a result of "lack of basic administrative foresight" and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy calling it "unforgivable." The government's response has done little to quell public anger. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced Rs. 10 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and ordered a magisterial inquiry, but his statement, "Over two to three lakh people gathered. No one expected such a crowd," has been met with disbelief. Critics argue that such a turnout was entirely predictable given RCB's massive fanbase and the significance of the win. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar apologised for the overcrowding and cancelled the procession, but his earlier presence at the airport to greet the players has been cited as evidence of the government's attempt to politicise the event. The RCB victory parade stampede has exposed deep flaws in the Karnataka government's approach to public safety, with netizens and opposition leaders united in their demand for justice. The 11 lives lost and 33 injuries sustained are not seen as mere statistics but is a stark reminder of the cost of political insensitivity. For RCB fans, what should have been a moment of triumph has been overshadowed by tragedy, leaving a bitter taste in the wake of their long-awaited victory. The Congress-led Karnataka government now faces a reckoning, as Bengaluru mourns and the nation watches, demanding that such a preventable disaster never happens again.
