'Crazy Game': Grant Forrest's home soil triumph, Trump call, and season turnaround
'It's a crazy game,' Forrest said, shaking his head in disbelief after lifting the Nexo Championship trophy on home turf at Trump International Golf Links.
-
The 32-year-old Scot's second DP World Tour victory came in front of family, friends, and a raucous local crowd, and was followed by a FaceTime call from none other than the course's owner, U.S. President Donald Trump.
Trump, calling from his course near Washington D.C., told Forrest, 'I have very good players, but they're not like you, Grant. We all watched you play. What a round of golf.
'That course is big, it's strong and tough. Your swing is great. And it's a great honour you won.' Trump said on the DP World Tour website.
Forrest's win, sealed despite a double bogey on the 18th, vaulted him up the Race to Dubai rankings, secured his DP World Tour card for next season, and put him at the top of the Closing Swing Rankings with a shot at a $200,000 bonus if he stays there after next week's Danish Golf Championship.
'It's amazing, just speechless,' Forrest said. 'One week can turn things around, and it sure has.
.Tough day today, didn't have my best at all, a lot of good par saves on the front nine, and I was pretty nervous down the last, but yeah, can't believe it.
"It's been such a tough year on the course; it's a crazy game that you can come out and do this,' he added.
"I was way down the rankings heading into this week, and while I had started to play a bit better, I was very much on the bubble.
"But one week can turn things around, and it sure has."
The victory came exactly four years after his first tour win at the 2021 Hero Open in St Andrews, further cementing his reputation for delivering big moments in Scotland. He also pocketed a $10,000 bonus for setting the course record, a six-under 66 on Friday.
Forrest now heads to Denmark with momentum, confidence, and the knowledge that in golf, fortunes can change fast.

Pakistan slump to 92 all out as West Indies win ODI series
An inspired Jayden Seales led the West Indies to a crushing 202-run victory over Pakistan in the third and deciding one-day international in Trinidad on Tuesday. The fast bowler blew away the Pakistan top order en route to figures of 6-18 as the tourists were bundled out for just 92 in a chase of 295 to win. The Windies had reached 294-6 in their 50 overs batting first, powered by captain Shai Hope's brilliant unbeaten hundred. The Caribbean side sealed a much-needed first ODI series win against Pakistan since 1991, after being swept aside 3-0 and 5-0 in Test and T20 series respectively by Australia earlier in the summer. "We stress on negatives a lot in West Indies," said Hope. "So many positives to shout about. Great to see the guys pulling off history. "Seales is a quality bowler... He's a class act. Anything you ask him to do, he puts his hands up." Pakistan's reply got off to a horrendous start as Seales removed Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan inside the first three overs to reduce them to 8-3. Seales then trapped Babar Azam lbw for just nine to leave Pakistan's hopes of a 2-1 series win in tatters. "Seales made it difficult for us. Done so throughout the series. But we lost three early wickets, that's what cost us," said Pakistan skipper Rizwan. Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie took two wickets through the middle overs, before Seales returned to remove tailenders Hasan Ali and Naseem Shah and complete a six-fer. The hosts, who lost the opening game of the series, wrapped up the win when Pakistan number 11 Abrar Ahmed was run out by Roston Chase. Pakistan had started strongly with the ball after winning the toss and electing to field, as the West Indies struggled to find the boundary. The home side were 68-3 when Keacy Carty was dismissed lbw by Abrar for a 45-ball 17. The usually big-hitting Sherfane Rutherford also never got going and crawled to 15 from 40 deliveries before falling to Ayub. But Chase helped revive the innings with a quickfire 36, giving Hope some much-needed assistance. Chase was bowled by Naseem and Motie was caught and bowled by Mohammad Nawaz as the West Indies' batting effort threatened to peter out. But Hope and Justin Greaves plundered 110 runs from the final 8.1 overs in a blistering assault to get their team close to 300. Hope finished on 120 not out, with 10 fours and five sixes, completing his 18th one-day international century. He now sits behind only Brian Lara and Chris Gayle on the all-time list for most ODI tons for the Windies. Greaves more than played his part, clubbing an unbeaten 43 from just 24 balls.

US oil output to slide in 2026 as price drop slows drilling
12 Aug 2025 23:44 (BLOOMBERG)US oil production is now expected to fall in 2026 as prices slide, according to a government forecast, reversing years of growth that propelled the country to the world's top crude output is now expected to shrink to 13.28 million barrels a day in 2026, according to the Energy Information Administration's Short-Term Energy Outlook released Tuesday. The agency's previous projection in July was for 13.37 million barrels a day, and the country is on track for the first annual drop in production since decreased output deals a fresh blow to US President Donald Trump's push for American energy dominance. Trump declared an energy emergency early in his second term in a bid to boost shale companies and the US agency have warned that falling oil prices heading into 2026 will decrease the appetite for drilling, with current drilling rigs in the US hovering around four-year increased efficiency from existing wells are expected to boost production by 1.5% to an all-time high of about 13.41 million barrels a day this increased US output, alongside increases from Saudi Arabia and its allies, is set to contribute to global inventory builds of more than 2 million barrels a day in the fourth quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of next year, according to the EIA. That's about 800,000 barrels a day higher than the agency's estimate last EIA also increased its forecasts for a global supply surplus in 2025 to about 1.7 million barrels a day, up from a previously estimated 1.1 million barrel. For next year, the agency expects a surplus of around 1.5 million barrels a day, compared to its previous estimate of 1.1 million barrels a brings the US estimates more in line with the International Energy Agency, which projects a supply glut of 2 million barrels a day in 2026. The IEA will release its latest report on lower oil prices present a challenge for shale companies, it could help bring relief for consumers. The US is now predicting that Brent crude prices will drop to $50 a barrel in early 2026, which is down about $15 a barrel from where crude futures are currently trading. The average national retail gasoline price is now estimated to be $2.90 a gallon next year, according to the EIA's report. That would be lowest cost since the spring of 2021, according to AAA data.
