Hyderabad: Carrera Eyewear, a part of Safilo Group has announced an exclusive co-branded collection with Australian Cricket Test and One Day International Captain, Pat Cummins. (Bloomberg) -- Rio Tinto Group is seeking a multibillion-dollar government bailout for its Tomago aluminum smelter — Australia's largest electricity user — due to spiraling energy costs, the Australian Financial Review reported. The talks center on the smelter's electricity contract for 2026 to 2029 and the federal government's production tax credits, the newspaper reported Saturday, citing unidentified sources familiar with the discussions. One person interviewed by the AFR said any bailout package will likely be 'more sophisticated' than a direct subsidy and that talks are mainly being conducted with the New South Wales state government. Tomago, majority-owned by Rio, uses about 12% of New South Wales' power supply, according to the world's second-biggest mining company. It's aiming for renewables to contribute to more than 50% of the smelter's electricity needs by 2030, and aspires to eradicate fossil fuels from the plant by 2035. The smelter is Australia's biggest aluminum producer, generating up to 590,000 tons a year. A request for comment sent to Rio out of working hours wasn't immediately answered. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in January announced A$2 billion ($1.3 billion) in funding to create Green Aluminum Production Credits to help the nation's smelters switch to renewable energy before 2036. Prices of the verstaile, lightweight metal have been volatile amid President Donald Trump's tariff agenda, and are down 4% since the start of the year. Thomas Bjorn-Darren Clarke duo lead at TPC Wisconsin
Thomas Bjorn and Darren Clarke combined to shoot a 12-under-par 59 Friday to grab the early advantage at the American Family Insurance Championship in Madison, Wis. Friday's four ball format, which takes the lower score of a pairing of two golfers on each hole, is predisposed to the proliferation of lower scores, and indeed, every coupling of golfers competing was under par on the day. Clarke, of Northern Ireland, and Bjorn, of Denmark, were a dynamic duo on the first day of the tournament's debut at TPC Wisconsin, with each accounting for seven birdies across 12 different holes. "Certainly for me knowing Thomas' game so well made it so much easier for me to go out there and free it up today," Clarke said. "I really enjoy playing with him because I know he's there if I mess up, and likewise I try to be there for him. We have, it's like a 'no sorry' policy. We're both trying as hard as we can and we both hit a lot of really good shots today and made the most of our opportunities." London [UK], June 6 (ANI): Australia's seasoned quick Scott Boland is still in the dark about his potential appearance in the World Test Championship final against South Africa on Tuesday at the Lord's, a venue where he would 'love' to play. With match figures of 5/105, the 36-year-old was one of Australia's premier pacers when they lifted their maiden WTC mace at The Oval in 2023 against India. He boosted his credentials against India by scalping 21 wickets in three appearances as Australia celebrated its first Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph in a decade. Despite his exploits, Boland has found himself in a neck-to-neck battle with IPL-winning seamer Josh Hazlewood for one spot in the defending champions' pace setup against the Proteas. With less than a week left for the enticing contest, Boland has yet to receive the green light from the selectors about his spot in the playing XI. 'I haven't had any chats with them (selectors). My goal coming into the last two months is just to get myself and my body in the position where I can put my hand up and be ready to go if it (selection) goes my way,' Boland said in London on Thursday, as quoted from ICC.
