Moroccan Police Seize 52 Kilograms of Cocaine at Tangier Med Port
According to the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN), the drugs were hidden inside the refrigerated system of a container arriving from Latin America.
DGSN shared the news on X, posting photos of the seized drugs and providing additional details about the operation.
The shipment passed through Tangier Med, one of Morocco's busiest ports, before authorities discovered the cocaine.
The judicial police are investigating a transnational criminal network suspected of orchestrating the attempted smuggling operation.
Officials have not yet reported any arrests linked to the case.
Morocco also participated yesterday in an international maritime operation that led to the interception of the tugboat 'Sky White' off the Canary Islands, which was carrying around 3 tons of cocaine bound for Europe.
The North African country has recently taken a leading role in fighting drug and human trafficking. The authorities have dismantled 92,346 drug-trafficking cases and arrested 119,692 people, among them 287 foreign nationals. Tags: CocaineDGSNDrug bustMoroccoTangier Med

Lleida Police Capture Suspects in Joint Spanish-Moroccan Counterterrorism Operation
Rabat – Spanish police announced Monday the arrest of two men in Vallfogona de Balaguer, Lleida, for alleged links to jihadist terrorism. The arrest forms part of a wider security operation conducted in direct coordination with Morocco's General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST). Security sources told Europa Press that the men, aged 24 and 26, radicalized themselves through extremist propaganda and actively participated in terrorist recruitment and indoctrination networks. The investigation began a year and a half ago after authorities detected one individual showing intense online activity tied to websites affiliated with ISIS. Officials said one of the suspects maintained a high level of radicalization, using extremist platforms and serving as an intermediary for recruiting others and planning potential attacks. Police searches at their homes led to the seizure of multiple electronic devices, now under police scrutiny. Both men appeared before the examining magistrate of Central Court No.1 of Spain's National Court, which ordered pretrial detention for the main suspect. Morocco has played a key role in supporting Spain's counterterrorism efforts. In January, Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), met with Spanish General Commissioner Javier Antonio Susin Bercero to assess threats in regions including the Sahel and Sahara. Spanish authorities commended Moroccan intelligence for helping prevent attacks and dismantle terrorist cells. Susin Bercero noted Morocco's regional leadership and stressed the importance of joint operations and coordinated arrests as security challenges evolve. Young Moroccan Man Arrested for Allegedly Setting Church Ablaze in Spain
Rabat — Spanish Police arrested a 21-year-old Moroccan man on Sunday after he broke into a church in Granada province and started a fire, causing significant damage to the historic building. The suspect forced his way into the Santiago Apóstol church in El Pozuelo by smashing the front door glass with a hammer. Once inside, he destroyed several religious objects and statues before starting a fire with a lighter. Local reports indicated that residents heard the disturbance and rushed to help limit the damage. Local residents said they used hoses to stop the flames from spreading and protect their church while waiting for the civil guards to come. Firefighters from Motril quickly controlled the blaze, but the building suffered considerable damage. The civil guards arrested the suspect, who now faces investigation for crimes against religious feelings with aggravating circumstances of desecration. Albuñol Mayor María José Sánchez reportedly commended residents' quick response and thanked police and firefighters for their work, urging them to rule out any use of the incident to create division. 'We cannot criminalize an entire community for one person's isolated action,' Sánchez said. The Archdiocese of Granada condemned what it called a 'serious attack against what Christians hold most sacred,' with church officials expressing gratitude to the neighbors and emergency services. The far-right Vox party, known for its hostility against migrants, has reportedly used the incident to attack immigration policy, calling it 'another attack against Spanish values and traditions by foreigners.' The party renewed its calls to expel all undocumented migrants and those involved in crimes. Meanwhile, the judicial police will investigate the suspect's exact motivations, as local sources suggest the man may suffer from mental health issues. The case signals tensions around immigration and religious tolerance in Spain. While community leaders work to prevent the isolated incident from fueling broader divisions and discrimination, parties hostile to migrants use it to influence immigration policy. Unified Socialist Party calls for investigation into Sion Assidon's mysterious incident
The Unified Socialist Party has called on the Public Prosecution to «launch a thorough and comprehensive investigation» into the circumstances surrounding the «mysterious incident» involving activist Sion Assidon. The party also urged the Ministry of Health to «provide the necessary medical care for this national figure and symbol of the Palestinian cause in Morocco». In a statement, the party expressed deep concern over Assidon's critical condition. On the evening of Monday, August 11, 2025, he was found at his home in a coma, with visible bruises on his body. He was urgently taken to a clinic in Mohammedia, where he underwent emergency brain surgery. On Wednesday, August 13, his condition worsened, prompting his transfer to a clinic in Casablanca, where he remains in intensive care. The leftist party described Sion Assidon as «one of the great national figures who fought on multiple fronts against tyranny, oppression, Zionism, and imperialism». A prominent political prisoner during the Years of Lead, he spent 12 years «of his youth in Moroccan prisons for his struggle to build a Morocco of democracy, freedom, equality, and human dignity». He also «staunchly opposed Zionism and strongly supported the Palestinian cause in various national and international forums». Assidon is one of the founders of the Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Against Normalization and a member of its national secretariat. He also serves as the coordinator of the Moroccan branch of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
