Mumbai: Vijay Raaz-starrer 'Udaipur Files' has finally got a green light and has been released in 4,500 cinemas across the country after receiving approval from the censor board.
Udaipur Files' is based on the murder of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Kumar. Kanhaiya Kumar was killed for allegedly sharing a social media post in support of Indian politician and Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Nupur Sharma, whose comments led to the 2022 Muhammad remarks controversy.
Upon the film's release, Kanhaiya Lal's son Yash Sahu said: 'This movie, which is being released today, Udaipur Files, is based on the incident of my father, which happened on 28th June, 2022. How my father was killed under terrorist conspiracy. These people were connected to Pakistan.'
'This is also called NIA's chart sheet. So, all that has been shown in this movie. And there is a message in this movie that such incidents happen in the country, they can be brought in front of the country through a movie, through a cinematic graphic.'
He said that his family is still fighting for justice.
'I have gone to many cases, but in this case, I still did not see anything that these criminals are being punished for. A very long time has passed,' he added.
'Three years is a very long time. Even now, the criminal is still in jail. He has not been punished.
So, I hope that after watching this movie, people will support us in our fight for justice. And the criminals will stand with us to get the punishment of hanging as soon as possible.'
Asked about the problems faced over the release, Yash Sahu said: 'There were a lot of problems with the release. It was challenged in High Court Delhi. He got a stay in that. Because this movie was going to be released on 11th July. He got a stay on 10th July, a day before that.'
'Even after that, many attempts were made to release it. He got a stay in that as well. It was challenged in the Supreme Court as well. The Supreme Court said, let the movie come. Because the movie is CBFC certified. So, the movie that CBFC has given the certification, that movie will come in front of people. Then, its decision was left to the Central Government.'
'The Central Government also gave a positive decision in this. But only yesterday, it was said that this movie should be released. And today, this movie is in front of you, in front of the people of the country, and is on release.'
The assailants had also released a video claiming that the murder was in reaction to the tailor allegedly sharing a social media post in support of former BJP member Nupur Sharma. Javed, who is one of the accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case, had moved to the Supreme Court against the release of the film.
Regarding the film's release, Kanhaiya Lal's wife Jasoda Sahu shared that when the film was initially stalled, she herself wrote a letter to the Prime Minister appealing for permission to release it.
She said: 'This film is a true reflection of our family's pain and struggle, and the entire country should see it.'
The film was initially slated for release on July 11, 2025. However, the film faced many delays due to censorship and legal troubles.

Video: BSF, Meghalaya Cops Pursue, Arrest Armed Bangladeshi Gang

Guwahati: Four Bangladeshi nationals who allegedly attacked an Indian villager at a border area in Meghalaya have been arrested by the Border Security Force (BSF). Visuals of the aftermath of the operation to capture the four Bangladeshi suspects show the BSF questioning them in a forest. The police said the "brazen attack" on the villager happened at night on Friday. Balsrang A Marak, who runs a shop near the border with Bangladesh, was sleeping when eight-nine armed men entered his shop and kidnapped him, the police said. Mr Marak alleged the "Bangladeshi gang" handcuffed him and marched him toward the border. He said he was sure they would have slit his throat. As they were walking in the dark, he managed to sprint away and run inside the first house he could find in the area. The gang fired shots toward him, the shopkeeper said. The BSF along with the police immediately launched an operation and captured three Bangladeshi suspects. The police fired two warning rounds in the air as the suspects began running toward Bangladesh. They were surrounded and arrested. Villagers caught another suspect. Before the police reached them, the four Bangladeshi nationals managed to throw away their weapons, cash, mobile phones and the identity card of a Bangladeshi policeman. All of these have been recovered, the police said. The four Bangladeshi nationals who crossed into India and attacked a villager at night The BSF and the Meghalaya Police are continuing the operation to find the rest of the gang. "This season has seen a surge in cattle smuggling, with criminals using violent attacks on BSF personnel during interception attempts. Large stretches of the border remain riverine and difficult to patrol, creating an opportunity for miscreants to exploit the terrain," Inspector General OP Upadhyay said, adding there is a growing threat from smugglers and organised crime networks operating along the Indo-Bangladesh border. "These people not only engage in cattle trafficking but also make illegal incursions into Indian territory to loot natural resources such as sand and stone. The BSF has intensified vigilance to curb these crimes, deploying specialised teams and advanced technology to monitor river channels and intercept cross-border movements," Mr Upadhyay said. The four suspects have been identified as Mefus Rehman, 35; Jangir Alom, 25; Meruphur Rahman, 32, and Saem Hussain, 30.

‘Wrongly labelled as Bangladeshi, held & beaten by cops': HC notices to state govt

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh high court issued a notice to the state govt on a petition that accuses cops of wrongly labelling 12 workers as Bangaldeshi nationals, and illegally arresting and beating them despite being Indian citizens. The plea, filed by the 12 construction workers from West Bengal, states that they were released later on the SDM's order and alleges that they were forced to leave Chhattisgarh and lose their jobs, which goes against their constitutional right to earn a livelihood anywhere in India. The petitioners sought the quashing of proceedings against them under Section 128 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each, and a guarantee of their safety to work in Chhattisgarh, said Sudeep Shrivastava, the counsel representing the petitioners. A division bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Bibhu Datta Guru instructed the state govt to file its response within two weeks. Following this, the petitioners were given one week to file a rejoinder, after which the matter will be heard again by the court. The incident dates back to July 12 when 12 construction workers from Nadia district's Krishnanagar and Murshidabad in West Bengal, who were working at a school construction site in Kondagaon, were picked up by the Cyber Cell police of Kondagaon. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like How Ken Koh revived ailing family business in S'pore to produce the 'Rolls-Royce' of soya sauce CNA Read More Undo According to the petition, the labourers were beaten, abused, and repeatedly called Bangladeshi nationals despite presenting their Aadhaar cards. They were later taken to Kondagaon police station and subsequently lodged in Jagdalpur central jail on the night of 12-13 July. On 13 July, the labourers' relatives contacted member of Parliament Mahua Moitra , and the West Bengal police submitted a report confirming their Indian citizenship. Counsels Shrivastava and Rajni Soren then filed a habeas corpus petition in the high court. However, the labourers were released on 14 July on the orders of the Kondagaon sub-divisional magistrate before the petition could be heard, Shrivastava said. The petition alleges that the police threatened the workers and forced them to leave Chhattisgarh, causing them to lose their jobs and return to West Bengal. The petitioners claim that as Indian citizens, they have the constitutional right to earn a livelihood anywhere in the country. They argue they were harassed and subjected to proceedings under Section 128 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita despite not hiding their identities or committing any crime.
