WhatsApp launches 'Voice Chat' feature in groups
WhatsApp is broadening access to its Voice Chat functionality to include all group sizes. Previously limited to larger groups, this feature resembles a group call but without triggering individual rings for each member. Instead, it uses an in-chat pop-up to notify users, who can then join the conversation discreetly. The platform has also simplified the process of starting a Voice Chat in groups.
Lava has introduced the Shark 5G smartphone in the Indian market. With a price tag of Rs 7,999, the device is equipped with a UNISOC T765 octa-core chipset and features a 6.75-inch HD+ display. It comes with a 5,000mAh battery. According to the company, the Lava Shark 5G will be offered in two colour options – Stellar Gold and Stellar Blue.
Anthropic has introduced its new AI models, Claude 4 Sonnet and Claude 4 Opus, which are now accessible on Claude's website and via API. Aadhaar to be used for Starlink KYC, says UIDAI
SpaceX's satellite internet service Starlink will use Aadhaar to validate Indian users under Know-Your-Customer (KYC) rules, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced on Wednesday. The Elon Musk-owned service has already obtained orbital slot appointments and a Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite (GMPCS) authorisation from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), but is yet to roll out. Parnil Urdhwareshe, Director at Starlink India, was with UIDAI CEO Bhuwnesh Kumar, where Starlink officially registered as a Sub-Authentication User Agency and Sub-eKYC user agency, allowing it to accept Aadhaar details from customers for the purpose of authenticating them. 'The use of Aadhaar authentication by a global satellite internet provider demonstrates the scalability and reliability of India's digital infrastructure,' UIDAI said in a statement. 'Aadhaar e-KYC will facilitate the onboarding of users seamlessly, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while delivering high-speed internet to households, businesses, and institutions.' Starlink has not started operations, even as its services have become available in recent weeks in Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The DoT is yet to administratively allot spectrum to the firm, and it is also likely working on compliance with security conditions imposed on GMPCS authorisation holders shortly before it received approval.

Lava Play Ultra 5G with 6.67-inch AMOLED display, Dimensity 7300 SoC launched in India at ₹14,999
Lava has been launching spades of new budget devices in the past month or so but the homegrown smartphone brand is trying to woo budget gamers with its new offering, the Lava Play Ultra 5G. Coming in the sub- ₹ 15,000 price bracket, the phone gets a Full HD+ AMOLED display, Dimensity 7300 SoC, 5,000mAh battery and Android 15 on top. It is likely to compete against the likes of Infinix Note 50s, iQOO Neo 10R and the newly launched Redmi 15 5G. Lava Play Ultra 5G features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and 1,000 nits of peak brightness. It packs an IP64 water and dust resistance rating which means the phone should be able to handle splashes and light rainfall but not full submersion under water. On the performance side, the new Lava device runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor with Mali-G615 MC2 GPU. It comes with 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage with support for up to 1TB of expandable storage via the microSD card slot. As for cameras, the Lava Play Ultra sports a 64MP Sony IMX682 primary shooter and a 5MP macro sensor. On the front, it houses a 13MP camera for selfies and video calls. The phone runs on Lava's own UI which is close to stock Android with no ads or bloatware. The UI is based on Android 15 and Lava has promised two years of OS updates along with three years of security patches. Lava Play Ultra 5G packs a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W wired fast charging. Lava Play Ultra 5G is priced at ₹ 14,999 for the 6GB RAM/128GB storage model and ₹ 16,499 for the 8GB RAM/128GB storage variant. As part of the launch offers, Lava is providing a ₹ 1,000 instant bank discount which brings the effective price down to ₹ 13,999 and ₹ 15,499 respectively. The phone comes in two colour options: Arctic Frost and Arctic Slate. It will be available exclusively on Amazon starting 25th August.

India leads the world in AI-driven leadership transformation: Microsoft report
Agency: New Delhi, Aug 20 (PTI) Indian leaders are moving with confidence and urgency to integrate AI across their organisations, with 93 per cent of those surveyed intending to use AI agents to extend workforce capabilities over the next 12-18 months, according to Microsoft's 2025 Work Trend Index. Outlining the country-specific findings from the index, it said that India's most forward-looking organisations, what Microsoft calls Frontier Firms, are leading the charge in reimagining work. 'These firms are not just adopting AI; they're redesigning operations around human-agent collaboration," the company said in a release. With 59 per cent of leaders already using AI agents to automate workstreams or business processes across entire teams, the shift from traditional hierarchies to fluid, adaptive structures is well underway, it said. 'This transformation is enabling organisations to scale with agility, speed, and purpose," it said. Puneet Chandok, President, Microsoft India and South Asia, noted that India is firmly in its AI-first era, with AI agility accelerating at an unprecedented pace. 'We're seeing a workforce that's not just adopting AI, but embedding it into the fabric of everyday work — leveraging its speed, precision, and 24/7 availability to drive meaningful transformation. Leaders are scaling operations with AI emerging as a true thought partner, fuelling creativity, fast-tracking decisions, and redefining collaboration," he said. This shift is turning AI's promise into proof and profitability-powered by productivity, innovation, and a fundamentally new way of working, he pointed out. The sample size of the survey was 31000 participants across 31 countries. The findings were part of the global WTI survey.
