"Development work of Rs 25 cr underway in Pitampura, this is just the beginning," says Delhi CM Rekha Gupta
Addressing the Public gathering, CM Gupta said, 'When I became a Municipal Councillor in 2007, we gradually developed this park. When I was here last year on the 26 January programme, I saw that the condition of this park had deteriorated. I promised that, whether I gain a post or not, I would make sure that work on this park is done.'
'With your blessings, you have made me not an MLA but the Delhi Chief Minister... Development work of around Rs 25 crore is currently ongoing in Pitampura. This is just the beginning...,' she added.
Gupta highlighted the completion of 100 days of her government's service and the upcoming presentation of a progress report titled 'Sewa ke Sau Din.'
'We are completing 100 days of service on 30th May, and on 31st May, we will present our report, 'Sewa ke Sau Din', and I'm proud to present the work we've accomplished in this period,' she added.
She emphasised the scale of the projects, stating, 'Projects worth Rs 25 crore are currently underway in our constituency, and this is just the beginning. Your prayers and support made this possible. I once aspired to become an MLA, but you placed your faith in me and made me the Chief Minister--for that, I am truly grateful. Over the past 100 days, we've made several important decisions to serve the people better.'
On the health infrastructure, Gupta said, 'Just yesterday, I chaired a high-level meeting on health infrastructure. We're facing a shortage of hospital beds, and to address this, we're working toward the goal of providing 3 beds for every 1,000 people.'
After India reported 1,000 active COVID-19 cases, Gupta assured that all city hospitals are fully prepared, and there is no cause for public concern. (ANI)

Border dispute clouds Nepal PM Oli's India visit next month
Nepal's border dispute with India over Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura resurfaced on Wednesday, weeks before Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli's visit to New Delhi. The row follows an agreement between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India's National Security Adviser Ajit Doval to reopen three trading routes, including Lipulekh. Kathmandu says the deal was struck without its consent and undermines its sovereignty. On Thursday, lawmakers across party lines raised the issue in Parliament. 'Unilaterally deciding the use of Nepali territory is not acceptable,' members declared. Kamal Thapa, Former Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal urged Oli to raise the matter in his upcoming visits to Beijing and New Delhi. Mahesh Bartaula, Chief Whip of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal-UML called the India-China understanding 'a dilution of Nepal's sovereignty.' Nepali Congress leader Bishwa Prakash Sharma said all parties were united on the issue. Oli will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in China later this month and will travel to India on September 16. Nepal's Foreign Ministry said areas east of the Mahakali River, including Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura, are 'integral parts of Nepali territory.' It said India and China had been formally told not to carry out activities there. India, meanwhile, rejected Nepal's claims. 'Border trade through Lipulekh has existed since 1954. It was disrupted in recent years due to Covid and other developments. Both sides have now agreed to resume it.'

Punjab demands Rs 60,000cr from Centre, cites pending GST, rural fund, other dues
1 2 Chandigarh: Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday urged the Centre to pay the state govt a total of Rs 60,000 crore, including a pending goods and services tax (GST) compensation and other outstanding funds. Cheema criticised the "arbitrary" rationalisation of GST tax slabs as a "gamble" by the Centre, calling it BJP's "jumlebaazi" (fraud). He also questioned the move to rationalise GST by slashing "sin tax" on goods like unmanufactured tobacco and cigarettes. After attending back-to-back meetings of the Union govt's group of ministers (GoM) on GST in New Delhi, Cheema told TOI that the state suffered substantial financial losses under the GST regime without receiving due compensation. "Centre wants to shatter the economy of the states and it is the biggest attack on India's federal structure. When states don't have funds to carry out developmental works, they will have to approach the Centre with folded hands for constructing schools and hospitals. Since the introduction of the GST regime, 27 exemptions have been given to various sectors and items, and rates have been revised 15 times already. It shows the Centre's GST system is faulty and needs to be corrected," he said. Providing a breakdown of the Rs 60,000-crore demand, Cheema said the amount includes Rs 50,000 crore for uncompensated GST losses, Rs 8,000 crore in pending rural development fund (RDF), and an additional Rs 1,000 crore that is set to be withdrawn from the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna by dropping certain projects in the state. Cheema highlighted the financial impact on Punjab since GST regime was introduced. "Since the introduction of GST, Punjab has suffered a loss of Rs 1,11,045 crore," he said. He added that while the state's revenue projection was Rs 2,37,520 crore, Rs 1,26,485 crore was promised as compensation under the GST regime. The minister also voiced concerns over the Centre's handling of the compensation cess and the slashing of tax on "sin" goods. He alleged that Punjab suffered financial losses due to the Centre's "wrong policies". He added if the state had not joined the 'one-nation, one-tax' regime, its tax collection would have been much higher. Regarding the tax rate changes, Cheema accused the Centre of "gambling in the name of rationalisation" and randomly changing slabs. He cited the example of tax on unmanufactured tobacco being slashed from 90-98% to 40%, while the tax on cigarettes was reduced from 33-64% to 40%. He questioned how this could be a move to ensure people's health. He noted that the tax on processed food like pasta was proposed to be reduced from 12% to 5%. "At the meeting, we demanded that the state should be compensated on account of any losses due to rationalisation of GST rates," he said. Slamming the BJP, he said, "It is jumlebazi of the BJP-led Centre. They say people will celebrate Diwali, but they have played a gamble by trying to make some goods cheap and others costly... We have supported some of the changes, but the Centre should compensate the states for the losses." During his recent Independence Day speech, PM Narendra Modi announced that "next-generation GST reforms" would be unveiled by Diwali, referring to them as a "Diwali gift" and a "double Diwali" for the people. Day after Delhi CM Rekha Gupta attacked, friend of accused held, 4 more set to record statements
A day after CM Rekha Gupta was attacked during a public meeting and a man from Gujarat was arrested under attempted murder charges for the assault, the Delhi Police on Thursday night detained one of his friends for questioning from Gujarat. Four more persons linked to the accused have been identified and their statements will be recorded to connect the dots in the case, officers said. Meanwhile, the CM asserted on Thursday that she 'will never leave Delhi despite all these unexpected attacks' and will continue to fight for the interest of people. Rajesh Khimji Sakriya was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly attacking the CM at a 'Jan Sunwai' event outside her Civil Lines office. Sakriya's friend, who allegedly transferred him money in Rajkot, was detained by a team of personnel from Delhi Police with help from Gujarat Police late on Thursday night — he will be brought to the Capital on Friday, said an officer, pleading anonymity, without divulging more details. Sakriya had interacted with four other persons before leaving Rajkot, the officer added. Their statements will be recorded. Sakriya was sent to five days of police custody on Thursday after he was produced at the residence of the Metropolitan Magistrate in Dwarka post midnight The Delhi Police had initially sought remand for seven days. Police said they wanted to investigate if the crime was self-motivated, financially motivated or if there was any organisation behind the attack. 'The conspiracy angle needs to be checked and unearthed… we need to check if more people are involved in this attack, conduct background checks of the accused and since he has family and contacts in Gujarat, their statements need to be taken down,' said police in their remand application. So far, the probe has indicated, sources said, that it was a 'self-motivated' attack. However, some details are being verified, officers underlined. On Thursday, the police also verified the route the accused had taken from the time he reached Delhi till the time the attack took place. The accused had earlier told the police that he saw a video clip in which the CM is seen speaking about stray dogs, and then decided to attack her because he was a dog lover. After questioning him and scrutinising his cellphone details, police said the investigation has also revealed that he offered prayers at Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain before coming to Delhi on Tuesday. The CM, meanwhile, said in a post on X on Thursday that 'Jan Sunwai (public hearing)' meetings will not be held just at her home, but in every Assembly constituency. She posted a photograph of her signing files, and wrote in Hindi, 'When I was in college, my father gave me a car to drive. One day, an accident occurred. I was afraid to touch the car again. Then my father said that accidents happen in life, one should not stop out of fear.' 'Yesterday, another accident happened, but I can never stop fighting for the interests of Delhiites. Every moment of my life is dedicated to Delhi. I will never leave Delhi despite all these unexpected attacks,' she said.
