'Historic' - UFC bantamweight fighter Aleksandre Topuria reveals bold vision for brother Ilia Topuria's fighting career

Ilia Topuria
, after a long wait, finally gets the title run within the
lightweight division
after the shocking results of
UFC
315. While the fighter has been calling out the former lightweight champion
Islam Makhachev
ever since the move up from featherweight, however, the bout did not pan out as Belal Muhammad lost the welterweight title to Jack Della Maddalena, ultimately leading to Makhachev moving up the weight division. With Makhachev moving up the weight division, Topuria has been paired up against
Charles Oliveira
for the
vacant lightweight title
. While Topuria gears up for the upcoming bout, his brother,
Aleksandre Topuria
, who currently competes in the
bantamweight division
, has a different perspective on the entire shakeup.
Aleksandre Topuria wants his brother Ilia Topuria to eye for a third title after claiming and defending the lightweight championship belt
With an undefeated record of 16-0, Ilia Topuria is one of the finest fighters in the UFC, eyeing a second championship belt after claiming the featherweight title and successfully defending it. Even though the highly anticipated bout between Topuria and Islam Makhachev did didnot pan out, the Georgian fighter will now be seen clashing against Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title.
The trend of going ahead for a two-division championship status is now taking over the UFC, as Makhachev too decided to move up the weight class for a second title in the welterweight division. However, the transition would not have turned into a reality if Belal Muhammad could successfully retain the title against Jack Della Maddalena.
While the shakeup is still in motion, Topuria's brother, Aleksandre Topuria, who recently won his first bout in the UFC against Colby Thicknesse, has a different and more so, a more ambitious perspective for his brother. In a recent interview with Enrique Gimeno MMA, the
bantamweight fighter
forwarded his opinion on how his brother' next two fight and the future should look like, 'The perfect scenario would be for Ilia to win, for Islam to win in the welterweight division, and then for Ilia to fight for a third belt. Historic.'

Till date, no fighter in the history of UFC has won titles in three weight classes. With a look outside the UFC, the only fighter to have won titles across three divisions is Anatoly Malykhin, but the feat. was achieved within the ONE championship.

If Topuria secures the lightweight belt, defends it and moves up to the welterweight division, as stated by his brother, it would indeed be history created by El Matador within the UFC. For now, the fighter is focused on claiming the vacant lightweight belt.

Shanghai E-Prix FP1 Results: Last season's winner Antonio Felix Da Costa tops again, Nyck de Vries finishes second
Image credit: Formula E Antonio Felix Da Costa seems all set to register another win in Shanghai. The Tag Heuer Porsche driver, who clinched one of the Season 10 double-header races, topped the first free practice session at the Shanghai International Circuit on Friday. Impressively, he clocked a time four seconds faster than last season's best. Mahindra Racing's Nick De Vries secured the second spot, while Jake Hughes of Maserati MSG Racing came in third. Shanghai E-Prix 2025 FP1 results Antonio Da Costa had shared a post on Instagram ahead of the Shanghai E-Prix: 'Race Week. Last year we went to Shanghai to get a cup! Let's try to get two this year. See you soon,' he wrote, alongside a picture of his winning celebration from last year. His dominance in the practice session indicates that he is in top form again this year. Jake Hughes also appears to have a podium finish in sight. Last season, he was both the pole winner and the second-place podium finisher in Race 2 of the Shanghai E-Prix. At the time, he was driving for NEOM McLaren; this season, he is representing Maserati MSG Racing. Antonio's teammate, Pascal Wehrlein—who secured the second podium spot alongside Da Costa in last season's Shanghai E-Prix—missed out this time by finishing fourth in the practice session. However, Wehrlein remains a strong contender, having already claimed three podiums this season. He was followed by Jaguar TCS Racing's Nick Cassidy in fifth and NEOM McLaren driver Taylor Barnard in sixth, despite the latter leading during the second half of the session. CUPRA Kiro driver Dan Ticktum led the early part of the practice session but dropped to seventh by the end. Andretti's Jake Dennis finished eighth, followed by Nissan's Norman Nato in ninth, while Stoffel Vandoorne of Maserati MSG Racing rounded out the top ten. Also Read: Shanghai E-Prix 2025 weather forecast: Expect two dramatically different races The Shanghai E-Prix will resume on Saturday with a packed schedule that includes a free practice session and Qualifying in the morning, followed by the final Round 10 race in the afternoon. Rain is unlikely on Saturday, but Sunday's Round 11 is expected to unfold under dramatically different conditions, with an 80–90 percent chance of rain. The Sunday schedule will mirror that of Saturday.
