Jagan Mohan Reddy presided over meetings leading to liquor scam decisions, alleges AP Police

The Andhra Pradesh Police has alleged in a supplementary charge sheet that former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy was involved in key decisions that led to the ₹3,500 crore liquor scam, but stopped short of naming him as an accused.The special investigation team (SIT) of state police alleged in a 124-page supplementary charge sheet that Reddy presided over numerous meetings that finalised appointments to Andhra Pradesh State Beverages Corporation Ltd (APSBCL) and led to policy changes to facilitate the alleged scam.Without naming Reddy, the charge sheet elaborated on a June 21, 2019, meeting, saying, "The then Hon'ble chief minister had granted his approval for the interim arrangement by extending the licence period of A4 shops and licences granted to hybrid hypermarkets till 30.09.2019 and further directed to make all arrangements for procuring the premises for A4 shops and identifying the personnel for managing the A4 shops as they will be run as Govt. shops from 01.10.2019."The charge sheet also flagged a meeting in July "chaired by" Reddy where a number of shops, hiring of shop premises, shop infrastructure and manpower were discussed. "Accordingly, pursuant to such discussion, draft operational guidelines were also submitted for establishment and running of 35,000 retail outlets by APSBCL for approval of the government," it said.In its 305-page charge sheet filed in July, the SIT had linked Reddy to monthly kickbacks to the tune of ₹50-60 crore per month. So far, Reddy has not been named as an accused.The supplementary charge sheet also alleged that kickbacks were laundered through office boys and other low-profile individuals. The SIT has named former Andhra intelligence chief, IPS officer PSR Anjaneyulu and consulting firm KPMG. Though KPMG officials have not been accused in the case, the supplementary charge sheet alleged that the accounting firm was hired without following due tender process only to give credence to a predetermined action to facilitate the alleged liquor scam.KPMG had helped the government in shifting from automated indentation process to manual.The supplementary charge sheet said, "Several illegalities have been identified during the course of investigation while modifying the then existing Excise Policy in the year 2019. The hiring of the consultancy firm M/s. KPMG Advisory Services Pvt. Ltd. was intended to lend credibility to a flawed excise policy."

Hyderabad: Jagan Mohan Reddy 's YSR Congress Party was routed in the Pulivendula zilla parishad territorial constituency, or ZPTC, by-poll Thursday. The ex-Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's candidate, Hemanth Reddy, was thumped by the ruling Telugu Desam Party's Latha Reddy by 6,035 votes. The YSRCP candidate, in fact, secured fewer than 700 votes and lost his election deposit. This is the first time in nearly three decades that an election was held for the Pulivendula ZPTC seat, which had previously been won unopposed by YSRCP candidates. The TDP has celebrated the win as Pulivendula celebrating "independence, just a day before Independence Day". A delighted S Savitha, the Minister for Backward Classes Welfare, also put Jagan Reddy on notice, declaring the TDP will win his family stronghold in the 2029 Assembly election. The defeat has been made worse because the Pulivendula ZPTC falls within the Assembly constituency of the same name, which is a stronghold of the Chief Minister and his family. Mr Reddy has held the Pulivendula Assembly seat since 2014. Before that it was held by his father, YS Rajasekhara Reddy; his mother, YS Vijayammma; and other members of the family, including his uncle Y. S. Purushothama Reddy. Defeat in this prestige battle will come as a big blow for Jagan Reddy, who is also set to lose the Vontimitta ZPTC. At the last update, the TDP's Muddu Krishna Reddy had 6,270 votes to the fewer than 3,200 secured by the YSRCP's Iragamreddy Subbareddy. A furious Jagan Reddy has already demanded the Pulivendula and Vontimitta by-polls be cancelled and a second election be held under the supervision of central forces. "Cancel the two elections and re-conduct them under the protection of central forces," he declared. Mr Reddy claimed an estimated 10,600 votes across 15 booths were suspect. He also said around 700 police personnel deployed at these booths to ensure a peaceful election had terrorised voters. And he slammed the shifting of polling booths, saying it was meant to threaten or confuse voters and force them to return without voting. SC forms probe team on nexus between Noida officials, realtors
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Uttar Pradesh Police to conduct a preliminary inquiry into alleged collusion between Noida officials and builders over inflated land acquisition compensation to farmers. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi formed a new SIT, comprising three IPS officers, which will replace the earlier SIT. The bench was hearing a case wherein it had ordered an SIT probe while dealing with the anticipatory bail plea of a Noida law officer, following allegations of compensations to land owners beyond entitlement. The SC directed a restraining order on project development in Noida without prior Environmental Impact Assessment and approval of the report by the court's green bench. The new SIT shall immediately register preliminary inquiries and proceed to inquire into the points highlighted by the previous SIT and forensic experts, as well as the Economic Offence Wing of the state police to be associated with it, ordered the bench. Asking the Chief Secretary to post a Chief Vigilance Officer in Noida, who should be from the IPS cadre or on deputation from the CAG, the court posted the matter for hearing after eight weeks.

Ramalinga Reddy calls for Kannada Shloka training in Muzrai temples
Bengaluru: Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that priests in Karnataka's Muzrai temples will be instructed to learn and recite shlokas in Kannada during worship. The directive aims to promote the use of the Kannada language in religious rituals. During the Legislative Council's Question Hour, BJP member Bharathi Shetty pointed out that while Tamil Nadu temples recite shlokas in Tamil, Karnataka temples still predominantly use Sanskrit. She suggested that Karnataka temples should also introduce Kannada shloka recitation, citing the example of Hiremagalur Kannan, known for his Kannada recitations. Shetty further raised concerns about cleanliness in temples and urged for maintenance on the lines of Tirupati. Responding, Reddy said that after years of delay, certificates for Agama training are now being issued, and priests will be guided to practise Kannada shlokas. He added that from August 15, plastic will be banned in temples, alongside stricter cleanliness measures. State to act on bike taxi services as per High Court order Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has stated that the government will comply with the High Court's order regarding the reinstatement of bike taxi services in the state. Responding to BJP MLC D.S. Arun in the Legislative Council, Reddy explained that bike taxi services, including Rapido, were halted due to rule violations by operating companies. Arun had argued that the suspension deprived many young people of employment opportunities and inconvenienced commuters, noting that there are about 8 lakh gig workers in the state. Reddy recounted that in 2018, discussions were held on the pros and cons of bike taxi services, and in 2019 a committee led by the Metro MD recommended against them. However, in 2021, battery-powered vehicles were allowed. The current suspension, he said, is due to operators flouting regulations. 'The matter is in court, and a verdict is expected in a few days. The government will act in accordance with the court's decision,' he assured.
