Adding Chris Boucher may have solved the Boston Celtics front court problems

USA Today6 days ago
On Tuesday, August 5, the Boston Celtics signed free agent big man Chris Boucher to a one-year, $3.3 million contract. Boucher will help plug some of the holes in Joe Mazzulla's front-court rotation courtesy of his positional versatility. The 32-year-old can play as a power forward or as a center; he's even spent time playing as a small forward in his career.
Boucher had become an unrestricted free agent after his contract with the Toronto Raptors had expired at the end of the 2024-25 NBA season. He will now join a Celtics front court that has been decimated by the second luxury tax apron, with Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford and Luke Kornet all leaving earlier this summer.
In a recent video for the Cyro Asseo YouTube channel, the host explores the value Boucher will bring to the Celtics rotation, why adding the veteran makes sense in return for his modest salary, and the decision to move on from Georges Niang, which preceded this free agency pick-up.

Former Boston Celtics majority owner Wyc Grousbeck will no longer stay on as governor

Former Boston Celtics majority owner and CEO Wyc Grousbeck will no longer stay on as Governor of the team once the transfer of ownership to the group led by private equity investor Bill Chisholm has been approved by the NBA, per recent reporting from ESPN senior writer Shams Charania. The sale of the Celtics, which broke records at the time for the valuation of an NBA franchise at $6.1 billion, was also remarkable in that it had provisions within it that would have allowed Grousbeck to retain a position as the team's lead governor and CEO. Skepticism abounded in league media circles once that aspect of the deal was made public in light of how things went with Mark Cuban when he sold his own controlling shares of the ball club, and it seems that skepticism was justified. The reasoning behind the change is not known to the public at present, with Charania only relating that "Grousbeck will no longer stay on as governor as part of the Boston Celtics' $6.1 billion sale to Bill Chisholm," and that the plan "had been for Grousbeck to remain through 2028." The ESPN reporter also notes that "Chisholm assumes (the) governor title and the transfer will be finalized soon." Listen to "Havlicek Stole the Pod" on: Spotify: iTunes: YouTube:

Boston Celtics jersey history No. 29 - Hank Finkel (1969-75)

The Boston Celtics have had players suiting up in a total of 68 different jersey numbers (and have three others not part of any numerical series) since their founding at the dawn of the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- the league that would become today's NBA), worn by well over 500 players in the course of Celtics history. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Celtics Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. With 25 of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Celtics to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover. And for today's article, we will continue with the third of four people to wear the No. 29, Boston big man alum Hank Finkel. After ending his college career at Dayton, Finkel was picked up with the 17th overall selection of the 1966 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. The Union City, New Jersey native also played for the (then) San Diego (now, Houston) Rockets before he was dealt to Boston in 1969 for the last six seasons of his NBA career, winning a title with the team in 1974. During his time suiting up for the Celtics, Finkel wore only jersey No. 29 and put up 4.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.
