Police hunt two suspects over Brickfields armed fight
The incident occurred early this morning and left two individuals injured.
Brickfields police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood confirmed that both suspects are in their early 30s.
He urged the suspects to surrender at the Brickfields district police headquarters or the nearest station to assist investigations.
Authorities received a distress call at 2.15 am reporting a dispute between the victims and the suspects.
The altercation escalated, with the suspects attacking the victims using a machete and an iron bar.
Two men, aged 33 and 47, sustained injuries and were rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with a weapon. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here on Monday (Aug 11) to a charge of attempting to murder a police officer by ramming her car into him and causing injury earlier this month. NGO activist among 6 fined for roadside poker
SUNGAI PETANI: Six individuals, including an activist from a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), were each fined RM1,500 by the magistrate's court here today after pleading guilty to playing poker by the roadside last month. The accused — Ch'ng Lye Beng, 83; Tiw Soo Chea, 48; Loh Hai Thang, 60; Lam Sin Taik, 60; Saw Boon Seong, 53; and NGO activist Ang Luck Hup, 53 — pleaded guilty before magistrate Muhammad Syaiful Akmal Mohamad Razi. According to the charge, they were caught playing poker for money by the roadside near an alley in Bandar Laguna Merbok at about 10.40pm on July 10. The offence, under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum fine of RM5,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Adlin Sufiya Kamaruzzaman appeared for the prosecution, while all six accused were represented by lawyer Nagarathinam Natesan. In mitigation, Nagarathinam urged the court to impose a fine below RM2,000 on Ang to ensure his community work would not be disrupted. The court fined each accused RM1,500, in default 14 days' imprisonment, and ordered the confiscated betting money to be forfeited to the government. All fines were settled at the court complex.

New penal code provisions tackle bullying, harassment, identity abuse in Malaysia
PUTRAJAYA: The government has introduced new provisions in the Penal Code to address cases of bullying, harassment, defamation, and identity misuse, including online offences. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the amendments were made through the Penal Code (Amendment) Act 2025 [Act A1750], which received Royal Assent on 25 February and was gazetted on 7 March 2025. 'The amendments introduce new Sections 507B to 507G, specifically targeting bullying in any form, including online acts.' 'The provisions cover offences related to harassment, threats, bullying, defamation, and identity misuse, including situations leading to suicide attempts or deaths due to provocation,' she said in a statement today. She stated that penalties for such offences include imprisonment of up to 10 years, fines, or both. 'It is now the responsibility of every citizen to review and comply with the enforced law.' She added that those needing clarification can seek free legal advice from the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU), the Prime Minister's Department, or the Legal Aid Department. 'Ignorance of the law is no excuse, and understanding legal rights and duties is key to building a safer, ethical society.' Azalina also urged ministries, agencies, and institutions to update staff on legal developments and align internal policies with the new provisions. - Bernama
