'Zombie Daughter' steals hearts: Secret behind lovable zombie avatar REVEALED

Choi Yu-ri plays Su-ah, a teen zombie
In the blockbuster
Korean movie
'
Zombie Daughter
,' which topped the summer box office charts, actress
Choi Yu-ri
plays Su-ah, a teen zombie who's the last of her kind. She's the daughter of a fierce beast trainer, Jeong-hwan (played by Cho Jung-seok), and her ashen face with eerie yet warm eyes has won over audiences.
For Indian fans who adore family dramas, this movie mixes horror with emotions that hit harder than most other tearjerkers. Su-ah isn't just a monster; she's a daughter who sparks a protective vibe in everyone watching.
The Makeup Marathon
Choi Yu-ri didn't just act her part; she lived it through a grueling 300-day transformation journey. Picture this: every single day, for 2 hours, she sat through a makeup session that turned her into Su-ah. From pre-production to the final shot, her makeup wasn't just slathering on grey paint. It evolved in 4 distinct stages, matching the movie's emotional rollercoaster-think changing skin tones, deeper wounds, and blood stains adjusted to perfection. The director, Pil Gam-sung, and the crew couldn't stop praising her patience, calling her the "most adult" person on set. If that's not dedication, what is?
Custom Lenses for a Zombie look
Here's where it gets even cooler. The team didn't stop at skin-deep makeup; they crafted special lenses to give Su-ah's eyes a story of their own. Normal zombie lenses are huge, like 500-won coins and super uncomfortable for long shoots. So, the crew teamed up with a US company to design smaller, custom lenses just for Choi Yu-ri. They even made different versions-angry, sad, and emotionless match each scene's mood. The result? Eyes that don't just stare but speak, making Su-ah a zombie you'd want to hug, not run from.
Crafting Every Face in 'Zombie Daughter'
Su-ah isn't the only star of the makeup game in this movie. Take Bamsoon, played by Lee Jung-eun, who transformed into a grandmother with a 100% sync to the original character through hours of age-enhancing makeup. Each shoot meant 2 hours of turning her into the adorable 'comic granny' that fans loved. Then there's Dongbae, played by
Yoon Kyung-ho
, whose hilarious Thor-inspired look (nicknamed 'Dongtor') had audiences in splits-think of it as a Korean version of a desi superhero spoof! The wigs, makeup, and costumes were dialed up to eleven to ensure every laugh landed perfectly.
Why This Zombie Bites Straight Into Your Heart
Beyond the makeup, 'Zombie Daughter' taps into something universal-family bonds that even a zombie apocalypse can't break. In Korea, zombie flicks like 'Train to Busan' have redefined horror with emotional depth, and this movie takes it a notch higher. For Indian youth, who've grown up on tales of sacrifice and love in movies and shows, Su-ah's story feels like a fresh twist on familiar themes. Add to that the growing K-wave-think BTS and K-dramas-that's sweeping across cities like Delhi and Bangalore, and you've got a film that's not just a hit but a cultural bridge.

Badshah Clarifies Dallas Show Not Backed By Pakistani Company, Promoter Cites Hrithik Roshan Tour

Last Updated: Badshah clarifies that his Dallas Unfinished Tour concert is managed by a US promoter and is not backed by Pakistani sponsorship. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had issued a letter to Badshah seeking clarification about his upcoming show, 'Badshah's Un-Finished Tour'. Scheduled to take place in Dallas on September 19, 2025, the show is allegedly sponsored by a company owned and operated by Pakistani nationals. Badshah has now addressed rumours about it, clarifying that the concert on 19 September is completely managed by a US-based promoter, not a Pakistani company. On Monday, Badshah and his team issued a statement to clear the matter. 'The tour is exclusively managed by Manish Sood of Intense Entertainment, who acts as the sole promoter and point of contact, handling all operational aspects, including venue bookings, sponsorships, accommodations, and logistics. Badshah remains steadfast in his mission to use music as a bridge for cultural exchange and unity, ensuring his work remains entirely independent of geopolitical influences," the statement said. The team said that Badshah is 'not privy" to any financial transactions beyond his performance contract. 'In a commitment to transparency, Badshah's legal counsel has provided comprehensive clarification to FWICE on 16th August 2025, reaffirming his professional integrity and allowing him to focus fully on his artistic work," they added. Intense Entertainment also confirmed that 3Sixty Shows, a US-based event management firm led by CEO Chloe Jones, is handling marketing and on-ground logistics. 'Intense Entertainment has taken note of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees' inquiries regarding concerns of alleged backing by a Pakistani-owned company for the Dallas concert. We categorically affirm that the Dallas venue, as part of the larger Badshah Unfinished USA Tour, was secured under our company's name. To ensure seamless execution, we have enlisted the support of 3Sixty Shows—a U.S.-based event management firm owned and led by President and CEO Chloe Jones—to assist with marketing and on-ground logistics. 3Sixty Shows brings extensive experience in producing high-profile Indian entertainment events in the United States, including the recent Hrithik Roshan tour, and is currently managing upcoming concerts such as Aghori Muzik, Purva Mantri and Abhijeet Bhattacharya. All venue bookings, hotel reservations, flight arrangements and ancillary logistics for the tour have been coordinated directly through Intense Entertainment, in strict compliance with local regulations and industry best practices. We remain fully committed to transparency and cooperation with FWICE to address any concerns and ensure the integrity of our events," the promoters said. After the Pahalgam attack in April 2025, Indian artists were told not to work with Pakistani artists. Two weeks later, India carried out a counter-terror strike against Pakistan's terror infrastructure. During this tense period, the Indian government asked OTT platforms and streaming services to stop showing content from Pakistan, including movies, web series, songs, and podcasts. Pakistani actors' social media accounts were also blocked in India. In its letter, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had earlier said, 'As you are aware, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), in alignment with the directives issued by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, has clearly instructed all artists, performers, and technicians in the Indian entertainment industry to refrain from engaging in any professional collaborations or performances with Pakistani nationals or organizations connected to Pakistan. These measures are in place considering the continuing acts of terrorism and hostile activities directed against India from across the border." Seeking clarification from Badshah, the letter further added, 'In light of this, we request your immediate clarification regarding your association with this event and the said organizers. We trust that as a respected Indian artist, you will uphold the sentiments of the nation and the directives issued by FWICE and the Government of India. Your prompt response will be appreciated so that we may take the necessary steps in accordance with our regulations." First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
