
Mark Cuban loved this 'Shark Tank' company—why he declined to invest in it: ‘I have no willpower with stuff like this'
Business owners usually want potential investors to love their products. On Friday's episode of ABC's "Shark Tank," an investor did indeed fall in love with a product — and it kept him from offering a deal.
Sisters and co-owners Casey and Vanessa White went on the show to pitch their company, Jaju Pierogi, which sells pre-boiled, flash-frozen Polish dumplings in a variety of flavors. They launched their business in 2016 after dusting off their grandfather's handwritten recipe book from 1960 and "tinkering around" with the recipes, Casey said.
The sisters asked the show's investor judges for $300,000, in exchange for an 8% equity stake in their business. The judges tasted the pierogis, and Cuban proclaimed himself a fan. "I grew up on pierogi. ... One of the beauties of pierogi is it's greasy and gooey," he said. "This loaded baked potato [flavor] is greasy and gooey."
Cuban's inability to stop eating the pierogi kept him from making an offer, he said: The 66-year-old generally tries to live a healthier lifestyle now than he did in his youth.
"This is a great product. I love them," he said. "I ate too many of them, that's part of the problem. I'd balloon to 600 pounds — I have no willpower when it comes to stuff like this, and I'd rather be a customer than an owner."

The White sisters initially bought 40 boxes of their pierogi to test at a market and sold out within an hour, Casey said. At the time of filming, their products were in more than 2,500 grocery stores including Whole Foods, Sprouts and Harris Teeter, and their company was projected to finish the year with $2.7 million in annual sales, they said.
However, the company wasn't profitable. "Last year, we lost $100,000," said Casey. "We would have been profitable, but we didn't negotiate for our contract with a large grocery chain like we should have ... I knew [in the] middle of last year that we were going to run out of cash, so that was the first time we had to raise money."
A slim profit margin per item sold didn't help, the investors observed. Each bag of pierogis cost $3.89 to make, $6.33 to distribute and sell for around $10, said the sisters.
"You don't have a lot of wiggle room," Cuban said. "You need to knock off 35% of your manufacturing costs," O'Leary added.
Lori Greiner declined to make an offer, saying she wasn't the right fit for the product. Daniel Lubetzky said he'd already invested in a company called Toast-It, which sells frozen arepas and is also owned by a sister duo, and he considered Jaju Pierogi to be too much of a competitor.
Robert Herjavec said he loved the pierogi samples, but didn't want to make an offer without Lubetzky, who has ample experience in the food industry.
O'Leary offered the sisters $300,000 for a 20% equity stake, but only if Jaju agreed to join forces with his manufacturing company, which he said helped give him "vertical strength" with another dumpling company in his investment portfolio.
Casey and Vanessa countered with $300,000 for 10%. O'Leary rejected the counteroffer, and the sisters walked away without making a deal.
"Maybe one of the Sharks will call us back one day and regret not making that deal," Vanessa said.

Its latest, "Snow White," has been mired in controversy since its announcement, and unfortunately, the film doesn't offer much to overshadow that noise. To its credit, it's more watchable than some of the other Disney remakes, and there are a few new songs added into the mix for fans of the original. Those curious about all the chatter can now check out "Snow White" on Disney Plus from the comfort of their own couch. Rachel Zegler takes on the role of the titular princess, who is banished from her kingdom by her ruthless stepmother, played by Gal Gadot. To reclaim her rightful place on the throne, she teams up with a group of magical beings and a bandit leader (Andrew Burnap) to challenge the evil Queen and restore peace to the realm. "Echo Valley" is part slow-burn thriller, part tightly coiled mother-daughter drama grounded by masterclass performances from its two leads, Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney. Written by "Mare of Easttown's" Brad Ingelsby, "Echo Valley" treads similarly gritty ground, offering a tense, emotionally charged descent into moral ambiguity. Prime Video just got a hilarious new action comedy that puts three improv performers — Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed — in a precarious predicament. Their new gig spirals out of control faster than you can say "zip, zap, zop!" While its action sequences aren't all that exciting, the sharp writing and hilarious performances in "Deep Cover" offer plenty of laughs. Orlando Bloom, in particular, is a hoot as a "serious" actor overly committed to the role of playing the group's muscle, come hell or high water. Watch it now on Prime Video Legendary James Bond director Martin Campbell returns with a "Die Hard"-style action thriller led by "Star Wars" actress Daisy Ridley. Though it wears its inspiration on its sleeve, "Cleaner" still delivers a fast-paced and entertaining ride with plenty of nerve-jangling aerial stunts to keep you on the edge of your seat. "Cleaner" kicks off when a group of radical activists storm an energy company's annual gala, taking 300 hostages in a bold attempt to expose corporate corruption. Opening night for a festival celebrating a Polish delicacy
EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A traditional Polish dish becomes the star of the weekend in one Luzerne County community. It's a summertime staple in NEPA, and 28/22's Rachel Malak stopped by to get a taste of all the excitement. Crowded streets and buttered pierogis, that's exactly what you'll get in Edwardsville, at the hometown committee's 11th Pierogi Festival. 'I was supposed to get these all to-go, but I think I'm just gonna eat them all right now,' emphasized Cody Welgosh, Wilkes-Barre Township. While many people can't wait to indulge, organizers like Jackie Moran have work hard before the reward pays off. 'Once we hit the new year, we really kick it into high gear,' expressed Moran. For others like Pete Vattimo, who designs the pierogi cutouts, the magic happens in the eleventh hour. 'I delay and just postpone that until I panic, and then I come up with a design, and I work for like two weeks straight to get it done, and then we're good,' said Vattimo. Either way, the lead-up to pierogi fest is crunch time, or should we say, pinch time! And it certainly works up an appetite. For new vendors, like Poppy Ski's: 'Thin dough, amazing filling. Ah, just your traditional potato, cheese, and onion. Everything you want in a pierogi,' explained Laura Gronski, owner, Poppy Ski's Pierogi. To old favorites like TNT's Pierogi Plus, who are debuting their brand new 'Polish kabob' this year. Each June, the Edwardsville Pierogi Festival butters up the community and keeps everyone coming back. Some for the Oh-So-NEPA merch: 'It started with, like, making t-shirts, and then every year, we go through revisions, and then getting into 3D printed stuff,' said Ryan Klug, pierogi enthusiast. Why Casey's General Stores Stock Skyrocketed This Week
Casey's General Stores is quietly the fifth-largest pizza chain in the United States. It continues to grow its geographic footprint beyond the Midwest, and is now in 20 states. Leaning on its ability to make shrewd acquisitions, Casey's growth story could still be in its early chapters. 10 stocks we like better than Casey's General Stores › Shares of Midwestern pizza and convenience store chain Casey's General Stores (NASDAQ: CASY) were 13% higher this week as of 12:30 p.m. ET Thursday, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence. Reporting fourth-quarter earnings, Casey's delivered earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) and earnings per share growth of 20% and 12%, surpassing analysts' expectations. This booming profitability, paired with management's announcement of a 14% dividend increase, sent Casey's shares skyward. Casey's General Stores operates approximately 2,900 locations, primarily located in small towns across the Midwest. As it expanded beyond its roots in Iowa to its current footprint of 20 states, the company has become a 258-bagger since 1990. Despite this incredible run, I recently wrote that Casey's is still an excellent long-term buy -- despite nearing all-time highs. And again, I'd argue it still looks pretty promising even after this week's run-up. Growing its store count by 9% in 2025, management's expansion plans show no signs of slowing. Powered by its mergers and acquisitions team, Casey's has been expanding into new states, like Texas, Tennessee, and Florida. The reason this M&A model works so well is that Casey's typically focuses on buying convenience stores without a strong food presence. Then it adds a Casey's kitchen, bringing in its beloved pizza-making and prepared food capabilities to these new locations, boosting profitability and generating a strong return on its investment. However, even with its recent success, the company's valuation remains reasonable at 17 times cash from operations (CFO). For example, whereas Casey's has grown its net income by 19% annually over the last decade, Domino's Pizza has only grown its profits by 14% over the same time, yet trades at 23 times CFO.
