Hamilton ‘refuses' to join list of champions to fail with Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton said he will refuse to join the list of champions who have failed to win the world title at Ferrari after claiming his new team is not firing on all cylinders.
Hamilton has not landed a podium in Ferrari colours - a streak of 12 races - the deepest into the season he has ever gone without a top-three finish.
He is sixth in the standings, 131 points off the championship pace at the midway stage of his debut Ferrari campaign.
Following the British Grand Prix, Hamilton said he staged meetings with all of Ferrari's key figures - including chairman John Elkann and team principal Fred Vasseur - and submitted two documents outlining his vision as to why the Italian giants are not up to speed.
Ferrari's last world drivers' title came in 2007, with their most recent constructors' crown the following year.
Speaking ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, Hamilton, 40, said: 'I see a huge amount of potential within this team.
'But it's a huge organization, and there are a lot of moving parts. And not all of them are firing on all the cylinders that they need to be.
'That's ultimately why the team has not had the success that I think it deserves. So, I feel that it's my job to challenge absolutely every area, to challenge everybody in the team, particularly the guys that are at the top who are making the decisions.
'If you look at the team over the last 20 years, they've had amazing drivers. Kimi (Raikkonen), Fernando (Alonso), Sebastian (Vettel) - all world champions. However, they didn't win a world championship. (Raikkonen did in 2007).
'I refuse for that to be the case with me. So, I'm going the extra mile. If you take the same path all the time, you get the same results. So I'm just challenging certain things. There's still a lot of improvements to be made, but they've been very responsive.'
Hamilton, who has a two-year deal at Ferrari with an option for a third, will hope an upgraded rear suspension for Sunday's race at Spa-Francorchamps will improve his fortunes.
He concluded: 'I'm here to win. I don't have much time but I truly believe in the potential of this team. I really believe they can win multiple world championships moving forward. That's my sole goal.'

Raducanu adds Nadal's former coach Roig to team full-time
PA Media/DPA London Emma Raducanu has added Rafael Nadal's former coach Francis Roig to her team on a full-time basis ahead of this month's US Open, the PA news agency understands. The 2021 winner at Flushing Meadows has worked with British coach Mark Petchey on an informal basis since March and enjoyed a positive run of results. However, Petchey's TV commitments meant he was always unable to become Raducanu's full-time coach and after a trial with Roig following Wimbledon, the 22-year-old will begin work with him in Cincinnati this week after he agreed a contract until the end of 2025. Raducanu has struggled to settle with a coach in recent years until her part-time work with Petchey started to pay dividends earlier this season. A WTA 1000 quarter-final showing at the Miami Open in March was followed by a round-of-16 run at the Italian Open before she made the last eight in the first women's tournament at Queen's Club. Aryna Sabalenka proved too strong for Raducanu in round three at Wimbledon, but this was backed up by a semi-final at the Citi Open as the British number one targets being seeded at the US Open later this month. TV commentator Petchey, who worked with Andy Murray at the start of his career, revealed in July that Raducanu would need to find a full-time coach soon and she has in Roig. Spanish coach Roig worked with Nadal alongside Nadal's uncle Toni for the majority of the 22-time grand slam champion's career and more recently was part of Matteo Berrettini's backroom staff. Raducanu will stay close to Petchey, PA understands, but turns her focus back to rising up the WTA rankings with a strong display at the Cincinnati Open over the next fortnight. Palace face Fredrikstad or Midtjylland in Conference League play-off
PA Media/DPA London Crystal Palace have been drawn to face either Fredrikstad or FC Midtjylland in the Conference League play-offs. The Eagles are scheduled to face the winners of the third qualifying round tie between Norwegians Fredrikstad or Danish club Midtjylland at Selhurst Park on August 21, with the second leg a week later. Palace qualified for the Europa League after their FA Cup win over Manchester City in May, but were demoted to the Conference League after breaching UEFA's rules on multi-club ownership. They have submitted an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but with that decision not expected until next week, they remain in the draw for Europe's third-tier competition.
