D'oh!
'The Simpsons' executive producer Matt Selman has spoken out about the surprising decision to 'kill off' Marge Simpson during a flash-forward scene in the show's Season 36 finale.
Although the decision caused major controversy within the hit cartoon's loyal fanbase, Selman slammed the backlash and claimed that it was 'ridiculous.'

'Obviously, since 'The Simpsons' future episodes are all speculative fantasies, they're all different every time,' he told Variety during an interview published on Thursday, June 26.
'Marge will probably never be dead ever again. The only place Marge is dead is in one future episode that aired six weeks ago,' Selman, 53, added. ''The Simpsons' doesn't even have canon!'
The episode in question, titled 'Estranger Things' and which aired on May 18, focuses on siblings Bart and Lisa Simpson as they slowly grow apart after they stop watching 'The Itchy & Scratchy Show' together.

After a 35-year time jump, the audience learns that Marge has died, Bart and Lisa are estranged, and Homer Simpson, the family's dad, is living in a retirement home.
A short scene from Marge's funeral shows Homer in tears while the rest of the Simpsons family stands around him.
At the end of the Season 36 finale, Marge watches from Heaven as Bart and Lisa save their dad from the retirement home and reconnect over a reboot of 'The Itchy & Scratchy Show.'

'I'm so happy my kids are close again,' the Simpsons family matriarch says.
It is then revealed that Marge met and married Beatles superstar Ringo Starr while in Heaven.
But viewers were not happy to learn that the show's creators 'killed off' Marge Simpson, and many took to social media to express their shock and outrage.
'I haven't even watched The Simpsons in 10+ years but they really killed MARGE?!' one person wrote on X after the episode aired.

'What's this I'm hearing they killed Marge Simpson off?' another fan added.
'Marge Simpson is dead?' a third critic commented. 'Utter woke nonsense!'
Surprisingly, Selman welcomed the backlash and claimed that it was further proof that 'The Simpsons' and its beloved characters are still relevant after 36 years on TV.

'I guess this speaks to the fact that people care about Marge,' he told Variety. 'At the end of the day, it's probably good for business even when these ridiculous, misleading stories go viral!'
'The Simpsons,' which premiered on Fox in 1989, remains the longest-running animated show on television.
Fox renewed the show, which has won 37 Emmys, for four more seasons in April.

LeBron James' wife pushing him to ‘f–king retire' next year after he re-ups with Lakers

Savannah James is urging LeBron to retire. The Lakers superstar exercised his $52.6 million option for 2025-26, bypassing free agency to return to Los Angeles for his 23rd NBA season. The 2003 No.1 overall pick revealed this during a dinner outing in New York with his wife, Savannah, Miami Heat and former Cleveland Cavaliers big man Kevin Love and his wife, Kate, among others. One of the dinners guests posted a snippet on Instagram of the conversation where James can be heard saying, 'Savannah wants me to f–king retire in the next year or so.' His agent, Rich Paul, told ESPN that while LeBron 'appreciates the partnership' with the Lakers, he 'values a realistic chance of winning it all' and will be closely monitoring the team's offseason moves. James ended year 22 averaging 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds. Despite his on-court production, the Lakers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves, who later reached the Western Conference finals before losing to the eventual champion Oklahoma City Thunder. Getty Images Paul offered further insight into the possibility of retirement, which will continue to hang over James every season now that he's in his 40s. 'We want to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career,' Paul told ESPN. 'He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive and want what's best for him.' The Lakers, who made the major deal with the Mavericks for Luka Dončić this past season, are still attempting to compete in the West, but it's unclear if they'll be championship-level good for this coming year.

Charlize Theron Talks About Threats To Human Rights

You know actor Charlize Theron. She's starring in The Old Guard 2, the action-packed sequel to the 2020 Netflix adaptation based on Greg Rucka's comic book series. But Charlize doesn't just play a badass in action movies; she's quite the actionable activist in her everyday life. On June 28, at the fifth annual Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Program Block Party in Los Angeles, the Oscar winner's remarks about LGBTQ and women's rights, immigration, and cuts to foreign aid were very compelling. "The world feels like it's burning because it is," she said, according to Variety. "Here in Los Angeles, in the US and across the globe, we are moving backwards fast." "Immigration policy is destroying the lives of families, not criminals," the UN Messenger of Peace continued. "Women's rights are becoming less and less every day, queer and trans lives are increasingly being erased, and gender-based violence is on the rise. This isn't just policy, it's personal. Fuck them." "Foreign aid cuts brought HIV and AIDS programs in my home country of South Africa to an absolute standstill," Charlize said. "All of this is not just detrimental, it's dangerous. People will lose their lives. Many have already unfortunately and at a frightening rate. It's absolutely heartbreaking to see this kind of unnecessary suffering." While Charlize's speech highlighted very concerning issues, she closed her speech by addressing how activism can work toward a solution. "What we also see, what we cannot miss, is the resistance," she said. "There is hope, there is power in all of us standing up, organizing, protesting, voting and caring for each other, and refusing to accept that this is the new normal." CTAOP was established in 2007 to support young people living in South Africa, where Charlize is from. According to Variety, the organization's "programs have reached more than 4.5 million youth and granted $15 million to organizations in southern Africa." While CTAOP's mission is focused on South Africa, Charlize explained their work is to value all humanity, everywhere. "That spirit of resistance, justice and care for each other, that's the spirit that drives the work at CTAOP," she said. "Although our focus is on the youth in southern Africa, what we're really talking about here tonight is that all lives should be valued. Everyone should have the right to be healthy and safe and should be able to be seen." Talking with Mark Malkin, Charlize said, "It's quite devastating what's going to happen…It's less than one percent of this budget that everyone is talking about and when you compare that to the millions of people that are going to die because of this, it's devastating. It does feel like this event is a little more important than it was last year.' = Check Marc Malkin's piece to see the video of Charlize on the red carpet.

Squid Game Season 3 Original Ending

🚨MASSIVE 🚨 Spoilers follow for the end of Squid Game. The third and final season of the Netflix global smash Squid Game hit the streaming service this weekend — and there's a good chance you've already watched the whole thing, up until the shocking conclusion. Brief refresher, in case you somehow already forgot: In the final episode, the show's protagonist Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) decides to kill himself, effectively making the newborn daughter of Players 222 and 333 the winner of the competition — and, as the Front Man takes her to safety, the 45.6 billion won prize. Well, in a new interview with Variety, the show's creator Hwang Dong-hyuk says that the series almost ended way differently — and in much more shocking fashion, too. 'When I had a vague idea about what kind of story I wanted to tell through Seasons 2 and 3, I actually had a different ending in mind,' he said. 'And then as I went through the writing process, as I created my characters, as I laid out the foundation and the outline of the story, and as I drew out the map for Gi-hun's character arc, I realized, this shouldn't be the way this story ends — and this is a better ending, or the right ending, for this arc." "And so there was actually a very drastic change in the ending compared to when I just had only a vague idea about the story, and then when I really got into the writing process.' 'In the finale, Gi-hun makes a choice," Hwang added, "and originally, when I was just thinking about where the story was going to take me, it was actually the exact opposite choice.' Yikes. Does that going to kill a baby? Wild stuff, if so. You can read the rest of the interview right here.
