Surprising New James Bond Actor Is Already a 'Dexter' Star
When IO Interactive dropped its first trailer for the new James Bond game, 007 First Light, the most surprising thing was the revelation of a new actor, playing Bond himself. This blonde-ish Bond is younger than were used to, and for hardcore fans, recalled the vibe of Bond from Charlie Higson's YA Young Bond books, or the prequel novel by Anthony Horowitz, Forever and a Day. But who is this young, dashing young star? The answer is that the new James Bond (in video game form) is an actor with an impressive resume. As pointed out by the Bond fan Instagram account, 007EverythingOrNothing, the new Bond is actor Patrick Gibson, sometimes known as Paddy Gibson. And for fans of Dexter: Original Sin, Gibson played the younger version of the titular character in that hit show. Basically, Gibson has already played a famous killer before stepping into the role of James Bond, albeit a killer of a very different type. 007 First Light will tell a new kind of James Bond origin story, in a contemporary setting. This is a different type of reboot, one that exists outside of the continuity of the films or existing books. That said, the modern vibe to the trailer does have shades of Kim Sherwood's recent Double O novels, Double or Nothing and A Spy Like Me. Essentially, like the movies, this game suggests that the world can change, but a younger version of Bond will always remain Bond. At 30 years old, it's notable that Patrick Gibson is one year younger than Sean Connery was when he filmed Dr. No in 1962. He's also close to the age George Lazenby was in 1969 (29) in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. To be clear, there's no reason to think that Gibson will also become the cinematic Bond in the hush-hush new film being developed by Amazon MGM. That said, if fans end up loving 007 First Light next year, it's possible that Gibson could emerge as a new favorite. Technically, he's the first new James Bond actor announced in the past 19 years, and he's already got an impressive acting career to back it up. Amazon Just Revealed a New Face of James Bond, But Not in A Movie
Well before a new actor for James Bond has been revealed for the next movie, Amazon MGM, along with video game developer IO Interactive, have dropped the first look at a younger James Bond. The game is called 007 First Light, and it's an utter reboot of the entire James Bond canon. Featuring a younger 007 on his first mission, First Light reimagines the entire Bond story, but with all the classic elements. In fact, if the next trailer for the actual next James Bond movie is half as good as this, we'll all be in luck. Watch the new trailer for 007 First Light below. Not taking place in any previous Bond canon, First Light seems like a game that approaches the Bond story anew. With graphics on par with the recent game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, there's certainly a cinematic quality to this trailer. Plus, plenty of guns, gadgets, and over-the-top villains pervade the entire affair. Hardcore Bond fans will certainly be pleased by the flavor of this. Particularly those who have followed the expanded novels from authors like Kim Sherwood and Anthony Horowitz. Like First Light, those books explore both a wider look at MI6, as well as different, younger takes on James Bond. Here's hoping the next Bond movie is half as good as this Just Revealed a New Face of James Bond, But Not in A Movie first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 4, 2025

'Casino Royale' Star Mads Mikkelsen Returns as Le Chiffre
The very first villain that James Bond ever fought was the unscrupulous gambler known as Le Chiffre. And, although that first Bond adventure, Casino Royale, was published in 1953, it wasn't until 2006 that we got a really hardcore version of Le Chiffre on the big screen. And now, 19 years after the debut of that movie, Mads Mikkelsen is back as Le Chiffre, in a super surprising way. As revealed at Summer Game Fest, in Los Angeles, Mikkelsen will appear as Le Chiffre once again in the game HITMAN World of Assassination. The announcement was revealed with a new trailer by IO Interactive, the same game developer that is creating the next big James Bond game, 007 First Light. James Bond will not appear in Hitman World of Assassination, but rather, players will be able to go after Le Chiffre as a specific target. Within the game, Le Chiffre, as played by Mikkelsen, will also be known as "The Banker." This crossover suggests that IO Interactive is going deep on its James Bond connections. While the trailer for First Light suggests an all-new take on Bond (starring Patrick Gibson in the role of 007), the return of Mikkelsen's Le Chiffre from the Daniel Craig era is, of course, a jump back into the recent past. Before Mikkelsen, Peter Lorre played Le Chiffre in a TV version of Casino Royale in 1954. In the 1976 spoof movie, the character was played by Orson Welles. (No word if video game versions of those deep-cut Le Chiffres will return.) It's hard to believe that Casino Royale is now nearly a vintage film. Mikkelsen's take on Le Chiffre is, of course, one of the greatest all-time James Bond villains. It's good to have him back. According to IO Interactive: "The Banker is available globally on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and the newly launched Nintendo Switch 2, starting today, June 6th, to Monday, July 6th."'Casino Royale' Star Mads Mikkelsen Returns as Le Chiffre first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 7, 2025
