BTS Matches Taylor Swift In A Rare Chart Feat

Forbes2 days ago
Live albums are not uncommon, especially in today's world where the technology to record performances and concerts is more readily accessible and easier to use than ever. But for most artists, recording and releasing live sets doesn't typically lead to major success on the Billboard charts. Live albums rarely perform as well as studio efforts, and it's relatively uncommon for one to break into the top 10 on the Billboard 200, the chart company's most competitive ranking of EPs and full-lengths in the United States.
So far in 2025, only two live albums have managed to reach that region — and that number doubles this week.
BTS Returns to the Top 10
BTS returns to the highest tier on the Billboard 200 this week with its first live album, Permission to Dance On Stage (Live). The set marks something of a comeback for the South Korean boy band, as all of its members had to step away from their music careers to fulfill South Korea's mandatory military service, which they have now finished. The project debuts at No. 10 with 43,000 equivalent units shifted in its first seven-day tracking period.
Taylor Swift Swift's One-Week Smash
Permission to Dance On Stage (Live) is one of only two live albums to crack the top 10 on the Billboard 200 this year. BTS joins Taylor Swift in this uncommon feat, according to Billboard.
Just a few months ago, in January, Swift scored a new bestselling live title with Lover: Live From Paris. The vinyl version, which was available only for a short time, instantly became a must-have for Swifties. The set reappeared out of nowhere at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, narrowly missing giving the singer-songwriter another chart leader. Lover: Live From Paris then disappeared one week later, and hasn't returned since.
BTS Scores Across Multiple Billboard Rankings
Permission to Dance On Stage (Live) opens inside the top 10 on all three Billboard charts it debuts on this week, though it earns the lowest start on the Billboard 200. The project brings BTS back to No. 1 on the World Albums list, where the group has now scored 14 rulers. The septet also nearly conquers the Top Album Sales chart, but instead, Permission to Dance On Stage (Live) starts in the runner-up spot behind Don't Tap the Glass, Tyler, the Creator's surprise new full-length.

Tourism is now running to the music

From hot destinations and cruises, package holidays to digital nomadism, tourism trends rise and fall every few years. Currently, two big trends have been surging in how people holiday: gig-tripping and run-cations. Moving to the sound of music Gig-tripping involves planning travel around a concert, to a different city or even to a different country. While gig-tripping is not a new phenomenon, and groupies have followed bands on tour since the 1960s, the trend to travel for a certain concert or festival has been gaining traction. In 2024, Skyscanner released a report on the year's travel trends. This highlighted that around a third of UK fans were willing to travel for their favourite artists. Others surveyed also highlighted the potential cost-saving benefits, as tickets outside of the US and UK tend to be cheaper. The rise of gig-tripping has been particularly well documented around Taylor Swift's recent Eras tour. As tickets in the US rose in cost and declined in availability, many fans decided to travel primarily to cities across Europe for increased chances of attending. Gig-tripping is especially evident in the US, where Skyscanner found that around 44% of people were willing to travel on short-haul flights. City breaks for a city race Alongside the rise in gig-tripping is another steadily growing sub-section of travel, set to be one of 2025 and 2026's key trends: race-cations. Here, tourism is seeing a boost as runners seek to explore the world through races and running events. Strava reported a 9% increase in 2024 of people completing marathons and ultra-marathons. As more people are taking up extreme running, athletes are looking for the next event away from their home turf. Marathons are growing in popularity, with New York and London swapping the title of world's largest, with well over 55,000 people completing each year. The ballot for the London Marathon in 2025 saw 840,000 people enter for a place, with a 43% increase in international applications. Some cities are beginning to capitalise on the increase in running tourism. Valencia has branded itself as the 'city of running', informing visitors of the best running routes around the city and its hotels offering runner-friendly services. Gigs and running bring big money As new event-based travel plans grow in popularity, cities will feel the benefit. A survey of runners revealed that 60% tend to stay around three to five nights around a race, boosting the local economy with the use of hotels and restaurants, and with visits to local sites. For gig-tripping, large-scale concert tours have also shown marked benefits to the local area. Sam Fender's recent hometown concerts at St James Park in Newcastle boosted the local economy by a reported £16.5 million ($21.9 million). The three sold-out gigs saw 150,000 fans travel to North Shields, bringing extra revenue to bars and hotels in the area. Certain artists are going the extra mile. The phenomenon dubbed the 'Beyoncé effect' has seen a rise in spending and improvements to infrastructure whenever Beyoncé tours. In the UK, the 2023 Renaissance World Tour saw a 6.3% increase in culture spending. As well as increased economic spending by tourists, Beyoncé's tours have also seen infrastructure improvements. In August 2023, during tour dates in Washington, DC, Beyoncé reportedly spent $100,000 to keep the local subway running to ensure fans could get home from the concert safely. Similar trends have been seen in her 2025 Cowboy Carter tour. "Tourism is now running to the music" was originally created and published by Hotel Management Network, a GlobalData owned brand. DEMON SLAYER: INFINITY CASTLE Shatters Records in Japan and Could Take Down MUGAN TRAIN — GeekTyrant

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is off to an incredible start in Japan, and the numbers suggest it might dethrone Mugen Train as the highest-grossing anime film of all time. The highly anticipated movie, adapted from Koyoharu Gotouge's Infinity Castle arc, didn't just have a strong debut, it blew past records. It now holds the crown for Japan's highest opening day ever with 1.64 billion yen ($11.11 million). On its third day, it pulled in another 2 billion yen ($13 million), the best single-day performance for any film in Japan. Its opening weekend was equally massive, bringing in $37 million across three days and an astonishing $49 million in four days. It's been breaking a bunch of opening records previously set by Mugen Train , and now it beat a previous record set by Mugen Train , Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle and is now the fastest film to reach 10 billion yen in Japan's history, hitting the mark in only ten days. Fans worldwide eager to see the epic final battle will need to hang on a bit longer. This is the first of a trilogy wrapping up the saga, but an international rollout is staggered. According to Crunchyroll, the US and UK release date is set for September 12. That's when we'll see if this juggernaut can topple Mugen Train's $500 million global haul. Back in 2020, Mugen Train not only became the highest-grossing anime movie ever, surpassing Your Name , but it also ended up as the top-grossing film worldwide that year—beating Hollywood heavyweights like Tenet . Now, Infinity Castle is looking to claim that throne. If its record-breaking start is any indication, Demon Slayer fans could be witnessing history all over again.

Donald Trump weighs in on Sydney Sweeney ad controversy – and takes time to slam Taylor Swift

Another day, another chapter in the American Eagle / Sydney Sweeney controversy, which won't seem to die down. Following the polarising campaign that led many to call out racist undertones and label the fashion ads as 'Nazi', the viral backlash that ensued, the comments from The White House and other US conversatives regarding cancel culture, the response from American Eagle and the revelation that actress Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican voter, now comes – somewhat predictably – Donald Trump's take. The US president has run to the defence of the 27-year-old Euphoria and White Lotus actress at the heart of the controversy by declaring on Truth Social: 'Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the 'HOTTEST' ad out there. It's for American Eagle, and the jeans are 'flying off the shelves'. Go get 'em Sydney!' He continued: 'On the other side of the ledger, Jaguar did a stupid, and seriously WOKE advertisement, THAT IS A TOTAL DISASTER! The CEO just resigned in disgrace, and the company is in absolute turmoil.' He went on to mention other companies that he considers to be 'woke'. Trump reposted his comments three times to fix various typos and then decided to hit out at Taylor Swift, bashing the pop star by saying that she is 'no longer hot.' 'Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can't stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.' He presidentially added: 'The tide has seriously turned – Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.' This is not the first time that Trump has beefed with Swift, with some exchanges online during last year's election making headlines. Trump even falsely claimed Swift's endorsement with AI-generated posts and went on to write 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT' on his social accounts. In case you missed it, the American Eagle ad campaign, which declares 'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans', came under fire last month for the play on words 'jeans' and 'genes' - which many perceived as celebrating white supremacy and invoking eugenics. One of the campaign's most polarising clips features the 27-year-old actress saying: 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair colour, personality and even eye colour. My jeans are blue.' Check out our explainer on the Sydney Sweeney controversy. The US fashion retailer responded to the backlash over the weekend, stating: 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story,' they posted on Instagram. 'We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.' On the same day that statement was issued, vice president JD Vance defended the campaign, saying: 'My political advice to the Democrats is continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive is a Nazi. That appears to be their actual strategy.' He continued: 'I mean, it actually reveals something pretty interesting about the Dems though, which is that you have a normal all-American beautiful girl doing like a normal jeans ad. They're trying to sell jeans to kids in America and they have managed to so unhinge themselves over this thing. And it's like, did you learn nothing from the November 2024 election?' Sydney Sweeney has yet to address the controversy – something which some of her fans find troubling. Not helping things is the fact that Sweeney's Republican voter registration was recently revealed. According to publicly available records, the actress is registered as a Republican voter in Florida. She registered to vote on 14 June 2024 - weeks after Donald Trump was convicted in New York City of criminal falsification of business records and a few months before he won a second US presidency. While the Florida Department of State records confirm that the actress has an 'Active' voting status, meaning she was eligible to vote, this does not mean that she actually voted from Trump. Still, this has galvanised those who were already slamming Sweeney in 2022 for posting a series of photos from her mother's surprise birthday party, in which guests wore MAGA hats. Faced with growing criticism, Sweeney issued a statement on social media at the time, pleading with the public to 'stop making assumptions'. 'An innocent celebration… has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention,' added Sweeney.
