Civil rights body urges CM to clarify on giving award to ‘Razakar'
Hyderabad: The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR), Telangana Chapter, along with activists, historians, and members of the Telugu film industry, demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy issue an immediate public statement clarifying the Telangana government's stance on conferring the Gaddar Telangana Film Award to the film 'Razakar: The Silent Genocide of Hyderabad'.
During a press conference held at Basheerbagh Press Club, the activists found that the decision to honor this film with three awards—Feature Film on Environment, Heritage, History; Best Makeup Artist, and Best Music Director—is a profound insult to the legacy of legendary communist leader and balladeer Gaddar, who dedicated his life to secular values and the upliftment of marginalised communities.
They demanded that the award be revoked, and to reassess the award selection process to ensure alignment with principles of historical accuracy and social unity.
They held that the film presents a selective and distorted portrayal of history, reducing the complex Telangana Armed Struggle (1946-51) to a communal Hindu-Muslim narrative. Rather than addressing the feudal, caste, and social power issues central to the struggle, it falsely depicts Razakars as exclusively Muslim, ignoring their diverse composition and the broader context of the Communist-led peasant rebellion against feudal oppression. This communal agenda, evident throughout the film, vilifies the Muslim community and distorts the legacy of the Nizam's rule, undermining the principles of communal harmony and historical integrity that Gaddar championed.
Awarding such a film in his name is a betrayal of his lifelong fight for justice and equality, they claimed.

CM Chandrababu Naidu urges Telangana to cooperate on Godavari use, avoid needless water disputes
VIJAYAWADA: Finding fault with the Telangana government for raising objections to the Godavari–Banakacherla project, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu stated that their arguments lack logical basis. Naidu advised the Telangana government to focus on completing the projects it has undertaken on the Godavari River, rather than opposing the interests of the lower riparian state. He added that he would not object to Telangana's projects on the Godavari and suggested that the Telangana government approach the Centre to secure legal permissions for its initiatives. Responding to Telangana's objection to the Banakacherla project during a press conference held at the State Secretariat on Thursday, the Chief Minister proposed that both Telugu states jointly utilise the waters of the Godavari, especially those that would otherwise flow into the sea. He said, 'Both states are already using Godavari water. Apart from Polavaram, most other projects haven't received formal approvals.'

DU admission form triggers outrage for listing 'Muslim' as language category
The DU is yet to issue an official statement. Abha Dev Habib, DTF general secretary, said, 'This is not just a clerical error. It reflects a deep-rooted communal mindset that reduces an entire community to a religious label, stripping away linguistic, cultural and regional identities. Muslim is not a language. Muslims speak the same languages as others in their regions, be it Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, or Urdu.' Dr Mithuraaj Dhusiya, Executive Council member, said, 'It is sad that a premier university like Delhi University is committing such mistakes. These should be rectified immediately. Diversities and multilingualism need to be acknowledged and respected.' Social media platforms were abuzz with screenshots of the form, with students and teachers demanding an immediate correction and apology. Other DU professors said omitting Urdu, the mother tongue of millions, is not just a linguistic oversight but a political statement.
