
Bahrain, Hungary launch bilateral investment protection agreement

Strong commitment
Nawaf Hashem Al Sadeh, Assistant Undersecretary, International Cooperation Affairs at the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, noted that Bahrain is strongly committed to broadening its international cooperation to attract foreign direct investment, support joint ventures, and create quality economic opportunities for its citizens.
He emphasised that the ministry has concluded over 40 investment promotion and protection agreements, ensuring robust safeguards for investments and the unrestricted transfer of capital, profits, and returns in freely convertible currencies between the two countries.
Al Sadeh further underscored that the agreement guarantees fair and prompt compensation to investors in cases of expropriation for public interest.

In nominal terms, GDP was up 3.0 percent, with non-oil output climbing 2.8 percent and oil activity advancing 4.6 percent. Accommodation and Food Services led the growth tables with a 10.3 percent jump, reflecting strong performance in tourism and hospitality. Financial and Insurance Activities, the single largest contributor to GDP, posted a 7.5 percent gain in real terms. Construction grew by 5.4 percent, followed by Education at 2.5 percent, while Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities rose 2.2 percent. Wholesale and Retail Trade and Real Estate Activities each expanded 2.0 percent, Transportation and Storage grew by 1.9 percent, and Information and Communication Activities edged up 1.4 percent. Manufacturing was the only sector to contract, dipping 0.4 percent. The report also highlighted a 3.5 percent year-on-year increase in Inward Foreign Direct Investment stock, which reached BHD 17.1 billion in Q1 2025. Finance Ministry publishes Bahrain Economic Quarterly Report for Q1 2025
The Ministry of Finance and National Economy has published the Bahrain Economic Quarterly Report for Q1 2025 on its website According to preliminary national accounts data released by the Information and eGovernment Authority, GDP grew by 2.7% YoY in real terms in Q1 2025 driven by an increase in both non-oil and oil activities by 2.2% and 5.3% YoY, respectively. While in nominal terms, GDP grew by 3.0% as both non-oil and oil activities rose by 2.8% and 4.6% YoY, respectively. The report highlighted the significant role of non-oil activities in supporting overall economic performance, noting that non-oil activities contributed to 84.8% of real GDP in Q1 2025. In terms of performance of economic activities in Q1, Accommodation and Food Services recorded the highest growth rate at 10.3% YoY, while Financial and Insurance Activities – the largest contributor to GDP – achieved a growth rate of 7.5% in real terms. Further, Construction and Education grew by 5.4% and 2.5% YoY, respectively. Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities recorded an increase of 2.2%, while both Wholesale and Retail Trade and Real Estate Activities grew by 2.0%, followed by Transportation and Storage Activities at 1.9%, and Information and Communication Activities at 1.4%. The Agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Government of the Republic of Korea for the Promotion and Protection of Investments will take effect today, Thursday, July 31. This agreement reflects the strong ties between Bahrain and Korea that are built on solid cooperation and joint work across various domains, particularly finance, economics, and investment. This aims to advance comprehensive cooperation, enhance opportunities for economic integration and support mutual interests. The ties between the two countries benefit from a mutual commitment to developing it and capitalising on its promising potential to achieve shared goals and interests.
