Texas A&M defeats Georgia 6-0 in Game 2 behind SP Justin Lamkin's career performance
Texas A&M (28-24, 11-18 SEC) was competitive on Thursday during Game 1 of the regular season finale vs. No. 10 Georgia, but ultimately lost the game 10-6 after allowing seven runs in the third inning, while the offense fizzled out after Caden Sorrell's early three-run home run. Still, with two games left to win the series, the Aggies, especially junior pitcher Justin Lamkin, came to play.
Lamkin's career night was something to witness, playing a complete game, and striking out a career-high 15 batters, while A&M's offense, like we've seen all season, relied on the long ball to get the job done, as first baseman Gavin Kash hit a three-run homer in the third, followed by catcher Bear Harrison's solo home run in the eighth to mount a 4-0 lead.
With Lamkin's dominance on the mound, the Aggies weren't done adding runs, as Kash returned to the plate to deliver a 2 RBI single to produce the fifth and sixth runs, getting closer to shutting the Bulldogs out with a chance to win the series during Saturday's rubber match. While Lamkin's performance was the story of the night, Texas A&M's relentless play proved that this team will continue to fight until the very end.
With Caden Sorrell out of the lineup until further notice due to his hand injury, Gavin Kash's three hits and five RBI combined with Kaeden Kent's two hits is a decent sign that other players are stepping up, even though Jace LaViolette continues to struggle at the plate.
Texas A&M will face Georgia in the final game of the series on Saturday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m. CT. and will air on the SEC Network.

Colorado's Deion Sanders currently away from program due to health issue

Colorado's Deion Sanders currently away from program due to health issue Ahead of his third season with the program, Colorado football coach Deion Sanders is reportedly away from the team as he deals with health issues. Sanders has not been present as the Buffaloes kicked off their annual slate of summer camps, and he also withdrew from a scheduled speaking engagement on June 8, according to USA TODAY Sports. His son, Deion Sanders Jr., said on a YouTube live stream on Sunday that his father is recovering at the family's estate in Canyon, Texas, where he is "feeling well." He was also non-committal on when his father would return to Boulder, though he said the elder Sanders would share what he had been dealing with when he was able. Sanders has previously dealt with blood clots in his legs, which became so severe that he had to have two toes amputated and the side of his left calf removed. In Sanders' second season in 2024, the Buffaloes improved their record from 4-8 to 9-4. Colorado faces quite a few questions entering 2025, however, with the departure of Sanders' sons Shedeur and Shilo, who started at quarterback and safety, respectively. CU also lost receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter, who became the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL draft. It's unclear when Sanders will be back in action at Colorado, but the program will hope he's able to return for fall camp. The Buffaloes begin the 2025 campaign at home against Georgia Tech on Aug. 29. Contact/Follow @College_Wire on X and @College_Wires on Threads. College football expert names how Georgia's top spring transfer can become dominant

College football expert names how Georgia's top spring transfer can become dominant A team's success, particularly in exceeding expectations, often hinges on its capacity to transform perceived weaknesses into strengths. Under Kirby Smart, Georgia has excelled at this, notably with their defensive backfield in 2021 and weapons on the offensive side of the football in 2022. SEC Network's Cole Cubelic anticipates that the Georgia Bulldogs will once again excel at the edge rusher position in 2025. Despite significant talent losses to the NFL draft, including first-round picks Mykel Williams and Jalon Walker, as well as transfer portal departures Damon Wilson (Missouri) and Samuel M'Pemba (Texas A&M), Cubelic holds high expectations for two specific Georgia players at that spot. One of them is Gabe Harris, who is entering his third season with the team. The other, Elo Modozie, joined Georgia less than a month ago, transferring from Army. 'You go get Elo Modozie, who we talked about in our impact-transfer list a couple of weeks ago, I think has the ability if he can add eight to 12 pounds before he enters the season, he can be as dominant of an edge defender as there is in this league,' Cubelic on a recent episode of his podcast, "The Cube Show". 'And trust me, we're about to get to some real edge guys in the next two groups. He has that kind of twitch, that kind of motor, that kind of ability. He has that kind of just get off and want to. As anybody I've seen in the nation, that kid's got it.' The 6-foot-3, 245-pound outside linebacker recorded 6.5 sacks last season with Army. Modozie adding some weight would help him stop the run. Then there's Gabe Harris, who stands out as the Bulldogs' most experienced returning edge player. Gabriel missed spring drills due to a shoulder injury. He's waited for his opportunity behind talents like Mykel Williams, Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, and Chaz Chambliss. Cubelic is also highly impressed with Harris' playing style. Harris is coming to a situation where he can play himself into being a high NFL draft pick if he performs well.

ESPN College GameDay announces week 1 destination, could Oklahoma be next?

ESPN College GameDay announces week 1 destination, could Oklahoma be next? The week one destination for ESPN College GameDay has been set, and it's a doozy. When the Texas Longhorns travel to Columbus to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes, the GameDay crew will be in attendance. It's a rematch of the College Football Playoff semifinal matchup between the two programs. Ohio State won the game 28-14 and went on to beat Notre Dame in the national championship game. Led by Ryan Day at Ohio State and Steve Sarkisian, both programs are going through quarterback turnover. The Buckeyes will go from national championship-winning quarterback Will Howard to Julien Sayin. The Longhorns go from Quinn Ewers, who led Texas to back-to-back semifinal appearances in the College Football Playoff, to the former five-star quarterback Arch Manning. It will also be legendary college football analyst Lee Corso's last GameDay. Ohio State leads the nation in number of College GameDay appearances. This will be their 63rd time featured. It's a marquee matchup for week one of the season between the SEC and the Big Ten. Week two could also feature an ESPN College GameDay experience in an SEC-Big Ten matchup when the Oklahoma Sooners host the Michigan Wolverines in primetime. The Sooners have made 41 appearances on ESPN College GameDay, good for fourth in the nation. Oklahoma has a 27-14 record. In Norman, the Sooners are 6-2 all-time. Norman has played host to GameDay just twice in the last decade. In 2024, Oklahoma's first game in the SEC against Tennessee earned the hosting opportunity and the Sooners lost 25-15. The game was marred by three Jackson Arnold turnovers and a quarterback change just before halftime. Oklahoma is hoping for a bounce-back season on offense, and they'll need it in week two against a Michigan team that should be pretty good defensively. The Wolverines will likely be starting true freshman and former five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood. It will be Underwood's second career collegiate start and first on the road. It will be a huge matchup that will have College Football Playoff implications and would be the perfect setting for an ESPN College GameDay experience.
