Texas A&M defeats Georgia 6-0 in Game 2 behind SP Justin Lamkin's career performance
Texas A&M defeats Georgia 6-0 in Game 2 behind SP Justin Lamkin's career performance Texas A&M (28-24, 11-18 SEC) was competitive on Thursday during Game 1 of the regular season finale vs. No. 10 Georgia, but ultimately lost the game 10-6 after allowing seven runs in the third inning, while the offense fizzled out after Caden Sorrell's early three-run home run. Still, with two games left to win the series, the Aggies, especially junior pitcher Justin Lamkin, came to play. Lamkin's career night was something to witness, playing a complete game, and striking out a career-high 15 batters, while A&M's offense, like we've seen all season, relied on the long ball to get the job done, as first baseman Gavin Kash hit a three-run homer in the third, followed by catcher Bear Harrison's solo home run in the eighth to mount a 4-0 lead. With Lamkin's dominance on the mound, the Aggies weren't done adding runs, as Kash returned to the plate to deliver a 2 RBI single to produce the fifth and sixth runs, getting closer to shutting the Bulldogs out with a chance to win the series during Saturday's rubber match. While Lamkin's performance was the story of the night, Texas A&M's relentless play proved that this team will continue to fight until the very end. With Caden Sorrell out of the lineup until further notice due to his hand injury, Gavin Kash's three hits and five RBI combined with Kaeden Kent's two hits is a decent sign that other players are stepping up, even though Jace LaViolette continues to struggle at the plate. Texas A&M will face Georgia in the final game of the series on Saturday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m. CT. and will air on the SEC Network. Lyrids Meteor Shower Peaking Tuesday: Get Outside and Watch the Fireballs
If you're up late or early this week, there's some dazzling activity going on in the sky you can check out. The Lyrids meteor shower will reach its peak early Tuesday morning, when its barrage of space rocks meets the atmosphere in the eastern sky. "You will begin to see Lyrids after 10 p.m. local time," said Bill Cooke, who leads NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. "This year, the light from the crescent moon will not interfere too much with the viewing, but it is best to look away from the moon, preferably placing it behind you." Read more: Here's a Look Ahead at the Year in Meteor Showers From Earth, Lyrids meteors tend to look unique, because they usually don't leave the glowing trails of dust that often come with meteor showers. However, Lyrids meteors are known to create occasional "fireballs," or bright flashes in the sky. City lights make it hard to see the sky's natural features. For the best chance to catch the Lyrids, head away from towns and suburbs to a dark sky in the country. Bring a blanket or sleeping bag, so you can gaze up. For the best results, try not to look at your phone screen -- the light from the device makes it harder for your eyes to adjust -- and just stare up at the sky. TikTok will be there when you get back. "In less than 30 minutes in the dark, your eyes will adapt, and you will begin to see meteors," Cooke said. The point where a meteor shower appears to originate from is called the radiant. To find the radiant of the Lyrids, look near the constellation Lyra, which is where the Lyrid meteor shower gets its name. The brightest star in the Lyra constellation is Vega. It shines so bright that careful observers might even spot Vega in an area with light pollution. For the meteor shower tonight, look away from the variant a bit, as the Lyrids will appear "longer and more spectacular from this perspective," according to NASA. Five or six meteors could be visible by 4:30 a.m. CT., Cooke said. But, in the past, the Lyrids meteor shower, which visits Earth every April, has surprised lucky skywatchers with as many as 100 meteors per hour. The bits of space rock that create the Lyrids come from comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher, named for A. E. Thatcher, who discovered it in 1861. The Lyrids are one of the oldest known meteor showers. We've got a full guide to the entire year in meteor showers.

Texas A&M 2026 spring game date, time, and channel announced
Texas A&M football's 2025 offseason will officially begin later this month. The spring practice period will begin on March 20 and lead up to the annual Maroon & White spring game on Saturday, April 19. Over the last two months, recruiting has been the primary focus, as coach Mike Elko and his staff have put together an elite list of future visitors in the 2026 recruiting class. Due to the everchanging college football landscape, the debate surrounding spring games moving forward will continue, as Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian started the conversation after opting not to play the Orange-White game next month and will instead adopt an offseason training regime similar to the NFL offseason. For the Aggies, Elko knows that finishing 1-4 after a 7-1 start last season demands his newly constructed roster to take the field for live reps, especially redshirt sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed, who will enter the 2025 season as the starter. On Tuesday, an official time and channel were announced for the Maroon & White spring game on April 19. It will air at 2:00 p.m. CT. and be available to stream on SEC Network+.
