Scots gun cops needed hospital treatment for burns after blunder cleaning patrol car
Two armed response officers needed hospital treatment after they were burned with corrosive chemicals while cleaning their patrol car.
The officers were burnt with alloy wheel cleaner during the incident at the police complex in Glasgow's Helen Street on Sunday night.
The cops, who were on night shift, are said to have been 'fooling around' and didn't realise they had picked up the cleaner which is known to be highly corrosive. The incident has been reported to Police Scotland's Professional Standards Department for investigation.
Sources said the incident led to the officers being treated for burns, including on one officer's bottom.
A police source said the substance soaked through their uniforms.
They have both been released from hospital. The source said: 'The rumours are they were mucking around with the hoses and while the police are denying it was a water fight, the shift team are saying otherwise. They're both under investigation.
'It's like something out of The Three Stooges but with men who are licensed to carry firearms.'
The alloy wheel cleaner in question is typically labelled with hazard symbols and clear warnings about skin contact.

Police sources said a disciplinary investigation is under way.
Meanwhile, some officers are said to be fuming the incident has turned them into a 'laughing stock' among colleagues from other departments.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'The incident is being referred to our Professional Standards Department.'

Livestreaming paedo who confessed to grooming more than 10 children dodges jail
David Smith was filmed by vigilante paedophile hunters revealing he was a serial child sex pest after being caught during several sting operations. A paedophile who confessed during a livestream to grooming more than ten children online has dodged a prison sentence. David Smith was filmed by vigilante paedophile hunters revealing he was a serial child sex pest after being caught during several sting operations. Smith was confronted by members of the group and when they asked how many times he had sex chats with children he said: "It must be in double figures." Sheriff William Wood told Smith: "I have had to give very serious thought to sending you to prison. I'm told that prospect has been uppermost in your mind and has rightly caused you concern. "Although you were corresponding with decoys, you weren't to know that at the time. These could have been children who could have been scarred by these exchanges with you. "It is only really because you pled guilty that I'm affording you the opportunity to work in the community. This is your one chance. It is an alternative to custody." He ordered Smith to complete 300 hours unpaid work, and placed him under supervision and on the Sex Offenders Register for three and a half years. The sheriff also imposed a series of conduct requirements on Smith, limiting his online activity and banning him from mixing with other known paedophiles. Smith, 52, used his own name and claimed to be 20 years younger when he sent pictures of his own genitals to girls he believed were 13 and 14. He was unaware he had been duped into communicating with three decoy profiles until the paedo hunters turned up on his doorstep to quiz and film him. Smith had told the 'girls' - who were adults posing as children and using adapted images of themselves for profile pics - that he was "horny" and encouraged them to carry out sex acts. Fiscal depute Jennifer Bairner told Perth Sheriff Court that Smith sent friend requests to the decoy Facebook profiles and claimed he was a hotel worker in his 30s from Scotland. He told one: "It's OK, it will be our secret" after sending a picture of his erect penis. He sent further explicit images after asking the girl if she was at school at the time. At one point he moved the conversation to WhatsApp and sent another picture of his penis to one girl "so you know it's me from this." The grooming of the girls lasted for several months until the vigilante group tracked his home address and turned up on 10 June last year to confront him. "They attended to challenge the accused," Mrs Bairner said. "It was on a Facebook livestream on the Child Protection Team UK. He admitted he was sexually attracted to children." Asked how many he had communicated with, he replied: "It must be in double figures. I'm sorry I did this. I don't go looking for children. I've not molested any children." Smith, from Perth, admitted three grooming charges as well as a charge of having child pornography showing images of children as young as three years old. Solicitor David Sinclair, defending, said: "He has spent the past month remanded in custody and that has, not surprisingly, been a harrowing experience for him. "He was in protection. He has been subject to levels of pressure and anxiety he has not experienced before in his life. That will continue for some time to come."

Scots dad murdered in 'despicable' attack was planning to propose to girlfriend
Sean McKay had a one-year-old son with his girlfriend Chloe McCormick. A Scots dad who was murdered in a completely unprovoked attack was planning to propose to his girlfriend at the time of his death. Sean McKay, 23, was walking home from work when he was stabbed to death in Dalry, Ayrshire, on October 10, 2021. Gavin McVey was found guilty of murder following a trial at the High Court in Paisley and sentenced to a minimum of 21 years in prison. Police Scotland said McVey, 42, stabbed the young dad for "absolutely no reason other than his own wickedness". The knife caused damage to his liver, diaphragm and heart. Despite members of the public rushing to help, he was found dead at the scene. Sean's family have since taken part in a new Channel 5 documentary on the case called Murdered At First Sight. His girlfriend Chloe McCormick told the programme she found out after his death that he was planning to ask her to marry him. The couple had a son together, Oscar, who was just one-year-old at the time of labourer Sean's death. Chloe, 25, said: "I just miss his laugh, hearing his voice. He made everyone laugh all the time. "I have never moved on from it. Even now four years later I still think that there is nobody as good as him. "After Sean died I found out he was going to ask me to marry him. He had spoken about it with his closest friends. "I would have said 'Yes' definitely." Chloe also said the prison sentence given to McVey should have been longer. She added: "He was given 21 years but I've lost my partner, Oscar has lost his dad. It just wasn't enough." Relatives of Sean told how McVey has never explained his actions and treated them with contempt when they came face-to-face with him in court. The killer, who denied his guilt, shouted and swore and made an offensive hand gesture to the family as he was leaving the courtroom to begin his sentence. Sean's sister Simone said: "Gavin showed us all the middle finger as he went back downstairs after being found guilty. "It made us feel horrible but it showed his character." His mum Debbie said: "Gavin McVey didn't give any reason. There was no reason why he could have killed him. "He didn't even speak in court. I thought we would maybe get answers why (it happened). When the jury came back and said 'Guilty' it was brilliant. We all cheered." As the jury read out their unanimous verdict, dozens of Sean's family, friends and loved ones clapped, cheered and said 'thank you' to the jury. McVey denied his guilt throughout the trial and blamed another person who he was with for Sean's death. However the court heard how he sent a text to a pal stating: "I killed some c**t" following the incident. He had already attempted to cover his tracks by hiding the blooded knife in his mother's garden and disposing of his jacket before buying new clothes at a shop in Ayr. Sentencing McVey, judge Lord Mulholland said: "You've been convicted of murder of Sean McKay - a young man with his whole life ahead of him. "He was on his way home from work when he encountered you under the influence of alcohol with a knife. "You've also delivered a life sentence of grief to his partner, son, mother, father, sister and other family and friends. "This was a senseless murder. What you did was despicable and cowardly." Murdered At First Sight will be shown on Channel 5 on Monday at 10pm.
