Frankie Bridge's 'comfy' sandals cost £28 and 'look more expensive'

Daily Mirror19-05-2025

The Loose Women panelist shared a series of outfit photos over the weekend and it was a pair of £27.99 New Look sandals that shoppers were left desperate to snap up
Sandal season is upon us and a chunky black sandal is the must-have style yet again this summer, as proven by Loose Women's Frankie Bridge. This weekend, the star stepped out in a stylish' high street pair that cost less than £30, with shoppers hailing them as 'the most comfy shoes to have ever graced my feet'.
The 36-year-old shared a series of half-term-ready outfits on Instagram over the weekend as part of her weekly 'Faves' series. One look saw the ex-Saturday's singer sport a smart-casual ensemble, consisting of a pair of elastic waist trousers, black tee, a leather jacket, complete with sunglasses, a chic bag and the aforementioned sandals.
The trousers, from Topshop, were a pinstripe bobbi boxer jogger in beige which have a relaxed feel and stretchy waist for ultimate comfort. We've seen Frankie wear a similar pair in the form of some slouchy pinstripe River Island jeans in the past, though the Topshop pair lend themselves more to the summer months with their lightweight fabric.
But it was her sandals that shoppers have been swooning over, having racked up a 4.6 star rating on the New Look website, where more than 280 shoppers have added their thoughts about the footwear. The Black Leather-Look Chunky Sliders cost £27.99 and boast a stylish chunky sole and cushioned padding. The retailer even tipped them as 'the perfect pair for all of your summer events.'
One shopper hailed them as: 'Literally the most comfy shoes to have ever graced my feet,' though another wrote: 'Too chunky for me. Looked funny but very comfy.'
Black Leather-Look Chunky Sliders
Product Description
Featuring a slip-on design with rip-tape fastening, they're ideal for wearing around the pool or out to dinner. As we know, Frankie is a petite 5'3', so the chunky sole is great for adding some height to an outfit without necessarily needing to opt for a pair of heels.
'Lovely comfy sandals that can be dressed up or down,' said another fashion fan. 'I love the adjustable top strap and they definitely look more expensive than they were. The footbed is also very cushioned and comfy to walk in.'
A fourth commented: 'Comfortable and stylish, these chunky sliders are a must in your Summer wardrobe. They fit like a dream and give that little bit of height needed. They are also super comfy!'
On the other hand, one shopper was disappointed at their longevity - but has still gone on to buy multiple pairs. They wrote: 'Love the look and style but the sole doesn't stand up to much usage. I bought two pairs last year and both split completely. However they aren't expensive and I wore them on repeat. You get what you pay for I guess. I like them enough to have bought a 3rd pair for this summer.'
Another was 'worried' they wouldn't look as good as they do in the photos but was pleased that 'they do'. 'I bought them for a holiday in a couple of months and wanted something I could walk a lot in and still feel comfortable and stylish. The material is soft and doesn't seem like it would rub at all. The footbed is soft and squidgy. As someone with narrow feet, I appreciate the velcro strap because it makes a world of difference to me. I do think these are overall a narrow fit though and maybe not great for wider feet.'
One holidaymaker said they walked 'miles' in the sandals with no complaints, commenting: 'I bought these for my summer holiday, and they are perfect. Very comfortable and feels good on the feet. Can walk with them miles and still comfy. '
While some style sources would suggest that jelly shoes and wooden clogs are the 'it shoe' for 2025, we firmly believe that there's still a place for the classic black sandal, and there are plenty on the market to choose from, from Dr Marten's Blaire Athena Leather Strap Sandals for £100, to the Black Raffia Platform Wedge Sandals from River Island, which come in at £36.
They're an accessory that can be styled with various outfits, working well with shorts, skirts, dresses, and even jeans. The key is about balancing the chunky sandals with other parts of the outfit, creating contrast with lighter colors or textures, which is exactly what Frankie did with her light coloured trousers.
And it's not just style that fans are looking to the Loose Women star for, either. Back in February when on holiday in Dubai, a follower asked the star what she uses on her eyebrows to keep them looking perfectly fluffy. Frankie replied: 'My day to day choice is Refy. On this trip I've been using Got2Be because it's waterproof.'

Prince Harry and Meghan's single word that left late Queen fearing 'disaster'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle never intended to leave royal life altogether, but one word in their sensational statement lead to an ultimatum from the Palace, according to insiders Prince Harry and Meghan Markle completely quitting their royal roles came down to the use of a single word, according to an insider. Now five years on from them sensationally stepping back as full-time working royals, the Sussexes appear to have left their former lives well and truly behind them. The pair have both been focusing on their commercial endeavours with Meghan sharing more and more of her life behind the scenes on Instagram, including a recent video of her twerking alongside Harry as they awaited the birth of their daughter Princess Lilibet. However, when they first announced their intention for change more than five years ago, it seemed that they did not want to quit royal life completely, instead saying that they intended to "carve out a progressive new role within this institution". ‌ ‌ But it appears a throwaway, single word in that very statement paved the way for an ultimatum that there would be no half-in, half-out arrangement for them. In the statement announcing their stepping back, the Sussexes said at the time: "We will continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties." And according to the Daily Mail, the word 'collaborate' is what raised eyebrows, with a source telling the publication: "No-one 'collaborates' with the Queen. This is not one of those 'Kate Moss Top Shop tie-ups'." And with the Sussexes, most notably Meghan, forging a very different path compared to the one she had in the Royal Family, the insider added: "This is exactly why Queen Elizabeth knew this whole half-in, half-out version of royalty they were lobbying for was never, ever going to work. "Harry and Meghan were a law unto themselves from the start, pushing and pushing the envelope to their own professional and financial advantage. Her Late Majesty was nobody's fool and knew that the chances were, it would all end in disaster." In the dancing clip from last week, a heavily pregnant Meghan twerks to the Starrkeisha song Baby Momma, lifting her skirt above her knees, raising her hands in the air and wiggling low with her hands on her hips and legs. Meghan shared the clip on Lilibet's fourth birthday, saying: "Four years ago today, this also happened. ‌ "Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work – there was only one thing left to do!" And for royal expert Jennie Bond, she believes it is an "astonishing video on any level" and reveals what the King would have thought of it. The former BBC royal correspondent told the Mirror: "The hours before you give birth are some of the most personal, intimate and private in the lives of any couple. "And women are perfectly entitled to do whatever they feel like to get through the waiting, and the pain. Giving birth is a serious business, and anything to lighten the mood is welcome. ‌ "However - to share those scenes with the world is utterly bizarre and, in my view, takes away all the magic of the moment. I cannot imagine why she chose to release it. Maybe show it one day to your nearest and dearest— but to anyone and everyone who wants to click on it? ‌ "If the King has watched it, which I doubt, though he can't have missed the headlines I'm sure he would be horrified. Royalty has to carry with it some measure of dignity." But she added: "Having said all that, there's no doubt that videos like this connect in a very real way to young people. And perhaps that's what Meghan is trying to do. "My own daughter thought the video humanised both Meghan and Harry and was light-hearted and hugely relatable. It reminded her of her own pregnancies and labour and she thought it was rather charming."

Shoppers in love with 'slimming' Roman dress that's perfect for special occasions

The stunning dress features a waist cinching detail, short sleeves and a floor-sweeping skirt, available in nine prints Shoppers are singing the praises of a stylish maxi dress from Roman for its complementary shape and comfortable fit. The garment boasts short sleeves, an accentuating waist feature, and a floor-sweeping skirt. Priced at £48, this eye-catching item is available in an array of colours and patterns, ranging from green polka dots to blue paisley prints, with additional options in purple, blue, teal, and pink floral. Stocks are plentiful, ensuring sizes 10-20 are on hand for most designs, save for the pink ditsy floral version, which is unavailable in sizes 12-14, and the polka dot green not offered in size 20. This dress's adaptability shines through as it pairs seamlessly with heels and a fascinator for a wedding, or can be dressed down with flats for more casual occasions like vacations walks or family gatherings. Fashion aficionados are spoilt for choice with a multitude of print and colour opportunities. If you you want to look around before committing, New Look has lifted the curtain on its much-anticipated summer dress collection, showcasing a gorgeous strappy maxi frock featuring an evergreen black and white gingham motif. Priced at reasonable £34.99, this number is available in a comprehensive range of sizes from 6 to 22. In the realm of wedding attire, White Stuff has presented a sophisticated linen maxi dress drenched in a deep red, peppered with pink swirls. Initially marked at £90, it is now up for grabs at the discounted price of £79.20, ensuring inclusivity with sizes spanning from 6 to 24 and both regular and petite lengths (petite ranging between 6-18). This captivating design boasts quaint frilly short sleeves and a fetching V-neckline. One satisfied customer lauded their green purchase from Roman, writing: " I love my new dress. It's very comfortable and fits perfectly. I love the pockets and the feel of the material. "It hugs my new figure perfectly and makes me feel like summer has finally arrived". Another shopper expressed delight, gushing: "This dress surprised me. The fit is perfect, the length is great, and I'm tall. It's a very slimming design and my favourite colour," as reported by the Liverpool Echo. On the other hand, a shopper spoke of her frustration with an unspecified problem with the Roman Originals garment, complaining: "Because it was a full skirt, I hadn't noticed it when I tried it on. It took me a while to sort it out, very frustrating. "Had I noticed it at the onset, I would have returned it as faulty. "So, ladies, check your hem. Never been disappointed with Roman before." Another shared their gripe: "I loved this dress but was very disappointed with the length. It was far too long. Possibly offer a petite range for us shorter folk." But one chuffed buyer who opted for the navy version revealed: "I fell in love with this dress. It's beautiful and very flattering. I purchased the 16 and found it true to size. "I had 2 1/2 inches taken off the bottom because it was dragging on the floor (I'm 5 foot 6), but there was no way I was sending it back, so it was worth it." Inside collapsing funeral home with 'human remains and Polaroids of corpses'

An urban explorer ventured into an abandoned funeral home that had begun to collapse - what they found inside was truly shocking, and definitely not for the faint-hearted A funeral home owner who 'vanished' one day and never came back left his business totally abandoned - until now. When urban explorer Ben James, 29, stumbled across the collapsing and crumbling building in Illinois, US, he hadn't even realised it was there. Instead, he had been on the hunt for a completely different abandoned space. ‌ "I found the funeral home while looking for an abandoned cemetery," he explained, adding: "The place looks to [have been] abandoned for many years. ‌ "I spoke to a local who said the owner vanished one day and never returned, so it closed and fell into disrepair." What Ben claims to have found inside would have sent chills up anyone's spine. Amongst embalming fluids, death certificates, and 'do not resuscitate' labels, there beneath the dust and building rubble, he claims to have come across what appeared to be decomposing human remains. The remains date all the way back to 2005, he claims, so they have been there undisturbed for twenty years. "It was amazing to see all that was left, death certificates, embalming fluid, and prep tools," the urban explorer - who boasts 215,000 followers on Instagram, @places_forgotten, and a further 1.2 million on TikTok, said. "But the most shocking discovery was human remains and Polaroids of corpses being embalmed. It was a very creepy place. Locals all say it is haunted and they wish it would get demolished, but then the spirits will have nowhere to go." ‌ Urban explorers who bravely venture into abandoned and forgotten spaces captivate a lot of attention, particularly on social media. Some of Ben's followers were eager to see the inside of the ghostly funeral parlor, that had so long sat totally abandoned, with bodies allegedly inside that had never been laid to rest. "For us, who live in a country, where events like this could never happen, this is incredibly fascinating!" Wrote one commenter. "That's so sad," wrote one user, "Are those people's ashes just left on the counter?" Another said: "The Polaroids!". ‌ A crumbling cinema that was also discovered by urban explorers also recently generated a lot of interest, with the inside of the place seemingly frozen in time. Ben's fascination with forgotten spaces has seen him travel all over the world, and he has ventured into disused airports, schools, hospitals, and even a city that had been totally abandoned. "Something a little different from my usual," he captioned the post about the city, "This abandoned city has been left since 1950. It is off limits to people and is patrolled by armed guards, but sometimes, you have to just ignore that and climb the fence that's covered in razor wire".
