Timber lorry driver burns to death after crashing in Bintulu

SIBU : A 57-year-old timber lorry driver was burned to death when his lorry caught fire after it crashed along a timber trail in Samarakan, Bintulu, today.
The Sarawak fire and rescue department said the victim was identified as Kanang Inggai.
'The front of the lorry was totally burned while the victim had been trapped and was found burned. The fire had been put out by the company's workers. The firefighters managed to extricate the body at 2.49pm,' it said in a statement.

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The road transport department (JPJ) has opened an investigation paper on the lorry company involved in the accident that took the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit personnel in Teluk Intan, Perak last month. JPJ senior director (enforcement) Kifli Ma Hassan said the investigation was being conducted under Section 57 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010, relating to operator licence conditions. 'JPJ has seized the lorry involved, and the investigating officer has been instructed to complete the investigation paper by the end of this month. 'Once completed, the investigation paper will be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for further action,' Bernama quoted him as saying. Klifli said the initial investigation found that the lorry company had violated its permit conditions. 'The lorry company was found to have violated the permit conditions by carrying an unauthorised load, namely rocks, while the approved permit was to transport coal. 'We are still investigating the case and appropriate action will be taken,' he said. On May 12, a lorry collided with a truck carrying 18 FRU members on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampan in Teluk Intan, while they were on their way back to Ipoh. Nine FRU members were killed, while nine others were injured.

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The bodies of a couple who went missing after their boat capsized off Tanjung Harapan, Klang, have been found. Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) enforcement and excise unit operations officer Syafiq Sazali said the bodies were found floating at 7.42am, about 0.1 nautical mile from Northport in Port Klang, reported Harian Metro. The bodies of Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife, Careen Man, 29, were located about 200m apart, the report said. Their boat capsized on Friday evening. The couple's three-year-old son, Darren, and family friends Cheu Son Hin, 50, and Fong Yong Sen, 29, were found dead in the boat. The sole survivor was 17-year-old Chang Yan Qin.
