JPJ opens probe paper on lorry company in fatal FRU crash
PETALING JAYA : The road transport department (JPJ) has opened an investigation paper on the lorry company involved in the accident that took the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit personnel in Teluk Intan, Perak last month.
JPJ senior director (enforcement) Kifli Ma Hassan said the investigation was being conducted under Section 57 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010, relating to operator licence conditions.
'JPJ has seized the lorry involved, and the investigating officer has been instructed to complete the investigation paper by the end of this month.
'Once completed, the investigation paper will be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for further action,' Bernama quoted him as saying.
Klifli said the initial investigation found that the lorry company had violated its permit conditions.
'The lorry company was found to have violated the permit conditions by carrying an unauthorised load, namely rocks, while the approved permit was to transport coal.
'We are still investigating the case and appropriate action will be taken,' he said.
On May 12, a lorry collided with a truck carrying 18 FRU members on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampan in Teluk Intan, while they were on their way back to Ipoh.
Nine FRU members were killed, while nine others were injured.

MACC arrests govt officer over alleged bribes, RM50,000 sponsored trips; court issues four-day remand order
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 20 — A principal assistant director at a government department has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on suspicion of soliciting bribes and receiving sponsorships for overseas trips from several companies and individuals. A four-day remand order against the suspect, who is in his 40s, was issued by Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin at the Magistrate's Court here this morning following MACC's application. According to a MACC source, the man was arrested at about 6.30pm yesterday when he appeared to give his statement at the Putrajaya MACC office. 'Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect solicited and accepted sponsorships from various companies and individuals to finance his trips to several overseas destinations between March 2023 and January 2025. 'These trips were related to the Dubai Orchid Export Farm Project, estimated at RM125 million, with the total value of the sponsored trips exceeding RM50,000,' the source said. Putrajaya MACC director Azizul Ahmad Sarkawi confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. In a separate case, a female insurance agent was remanded for her involvement in a fake investment scheme that deceived 22 investors out of RM21 million. The suspect, in her 40s was arrested at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday and remanded for five days until August 24. Preliminary investigations revealed the funds were never received by the cooperative, and the investors were given fake investment certificates. Another child bullying case rocks Johor after apartment CCTV footage goes viral, cops investigating
JOHOR BARU, Aug 20 — Police are investigating another case of bullying involving children after a video showing a seeming assault at Molek Ria Apartment in Jalan Persiaran Bumi here went viral. Seri Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident took place at about 2.03pm last Friday at one of the apartment blocks. 'Based on the report lodged by the victim's 33-year-old mother, her son was kicked in the stomach by another boy believed to also live in the same residential area,' he said in a media statement today. Police did not disclose the age of the victim. Mohd Sohaimi said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt. He added that the offence carries a penalty of up to one year's imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both if convicted. 'Police remind the public to avoid any speculation or to spread unverified information regarding the case which could cause unnecessary panic,' he said. The one-minute, 24-second CCTV footage, recorded at the block's void deck, shows a young boy waiting for his mother when a group of boys approaches him. One of them then kicks him in the stomach. The video was later uploaded on Facebook, prompting the victim's mother to lodge a police report.
