Gulveer Singh Breaks Surendra Singh's 17-Year-Old 3000m National Record
Gulveer clocked a time of 7:34.49s at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest, a Continental Tour Gold meet to finish fifth.
Reliance Foundation athlete Gulveer Singh added the 3000m national record to the 5000m and 10000m national records which already stand in his name in an imperious display on Tuesday (August 12). Gulveer clocked a time of 7:34.49s at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest, a Continental Tour Gold meet to finish fifth. This was the first time that Gulveer was competing in this discipline in Europe.
He broke Surendra Singh's record that had stood since 2008.

Earlier this year, Gulveer Singh also pocketed the men's 3000m indoor national record and the Asian 5000m short track record at an athletics meet in Boston.
In March 2025, Gulveer bettered his own men's 10,000m national record, clocking 27:00.22s at The Ten 2025 athletics meet.
The 26-year-old shaved off 14.66 seconds to better his own national record of 27:14.88, which he set at the Hachioji Long Distance 2024 event in Japan.
Coincidentally, Gulveer broke the 10000m national record for the first time at The Ten last year, finishing with a time of 27:41.81. This performance surpassed Surendra Singh's previous record of 28:02.89, which had stood since 2008. Gulveer later improved his record at the Hachioji Long Distance event in Japan.
The Hangzhou Asian Games bronze medallist's time at The Ten, a World Athletics Continental Tour silver-level meet, was also agonisingly close to the automatic qualifying standard for the World Athletics Championships 2025, which stands at 27:00.00 – just 0.22 seconds faster than Gulveer's finish. However, he breached the entry standard for the Asian Athletics Championships 2025, which is set at 29.33.26s by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).

'I love getting wickets. It's very surprising anytime I get anyone out. I'm there to do a job in the powerplay and I'm trying to execute that as well as I can," he said. Besides his bowling, Maxwell has been flexible in playing at any position based on the team's requirements. 'I've been a bit of the shuffler around the order, up and down. I'm filling holes at the moment. Even during the West Indies series, trying to combat Akeal Hosein (by) going up the top, this series (against South Africa) going a little bit lower, trying to manage that back end (of the innings).
