The New York Yankees have needed an upgrade at third base almost all season. Oswaldo Cabrera started the season there, but after he was injured, Jazz Chisholm Jr. moved to the hot corner.
Cabrera was never going to be the answer there, and Chisholm's struggles defensively forced the Yankees to move him back to second base and to release DJ LeMahieu. Now Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas are the main options at third base.
As the trade deadline approaches, many rumors have linked the Yankees to Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez. Suárez was an All-Star this season, and Yankees' manager Aaron Boone spoke on him as the trade deadline is just over a week away.

PHOENIX, ARIZONA - JULY 20: Eugenio Suarez #28 of the Arizona Diamondbacks celebrates after hitting a three run home run against the St. Louis Cardinals during the first inning at Chase Field on July 20, 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona. More"He's been a really good power hitter in the league for a long time," Boone told reporters, per New York Daily News' Gary Phillips.
"I'm sure he's going to be talked about by a lot of teams," Boone added, per Phillips. "Arizona seems like one of those teams that you don't know what they're doing either. They're kind of on the periphery of contention right now, but obviously have had some guys injured, so we'll see."
Suárez has hit 36 home runs this season, and would be a great addition to the Yankees. His defense may not be the best, but what he would add to their offense would outweigh that. He has an .891 OPS at Yankee Stadium in his career, so he could end up continuing on his great season.
