Felcra posts RM178mil profit, to disburse RM101mil as first interim distributable income

PASIR SALAK: Felcra Bhd has recorded a profit of RM178 million for up to April 2025, showing an increase compared to the previous year.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, stated that of this amount, RM101 million will be distributed to 74,300 participants nationwide in stages starting today.
"I congratulate Felcra Bhd for successfully maintaining a strong performance, with an increase of nearly RM2 million compared to the same period last year.
"I will be monitoring the profit distribution to all participants across the country," he said at the 2025 First Interim Distributable Profit Declaration Ceremony for Felcra Bhd participant projects held here today.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang and Felcra Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Idris Lasim.
In addition, Ahmad Zahid said Felcra Bhd continues to make history in strengthening national food security through the commercialisation of Felcra's MRQ 107 paddy - a local fragrant rice variety that serves as a high-quality alternative to imported fragrant rice.
He stated that the Seberang Perak area, covering more than 3,400 hectares and cultivated using modern methods by Felcra, has shown encouraging performance with an average yield reaching eight metric tonnes per hectare annually.
"We expect production to exceed 27,000 metric tonnes of paddy, equivalent to over 16,000 metric tons of rice per year, which can meet the needs of thousands of families. Hopefully, this becomes an example for other paddy farmers," he said.
Meanwhile, Idris said the performance of the first interim distribution for 2025 was influenced by several key factors, including efficient estate management and the implementation of cost-saving measures.
"Through effective approaches in the use of fertilisers, pesticides, and farm inputs, operational costs were reduced by 15 per cent, and yield per hectare increased by 49 per cent," he said.
Idris also informed that Felcra's oil palm projects recorded an average net profit increase of 81 per cent.
He emphasised that while profit distribution rates are influenced by crude palm oil price trends, improvements in estate performance remain the primary determining factor.

HR Minister Unlocks RM2 Bln Levy Fund For Graduate Hiring As Merdeka Gift For Employers

BUSINESS PETALING JAYA, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong has announced that employers can utilise up to RM2 billion from the human resources development (HRD) levy fund to hire Malaysian graduates beginning Sept 1, 2025. 'As a Merdeka gift, I am unlocking up to RM2 billion in the HRD levy fund for you to hire Malaysian graduates beginning Sept 1, 2025. You will now be able to use your levy money to pay the salary of your workers if they are university graduates or TVET graduates,' he said in his speech at the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) Annual Dinner 2025 here today. Also present were Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, FMM president Tan Sri Soh Thian Lai and FMM deputy president Lee Chor Kok. Sim highlighted that the initiative would not only help employers improve cashflow, but also place a greater premium on human capital, create more higher-paying jobs and provide on-the-job training for graduates. He also reminded industry players not to overlook human capital while chasing technology-driven productivity, especially with artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly reshaping industries. 'This confirmed our instinctive suspicion for the past few years. AI replaces conventional academic-trained personnel… this will dent the signalling value of an academic degree in the future,' he said. The minister highlighted that Malaysia had already spent up to RM77.2 billion on digitalisation until the end of last year, while global tech players such as Google, Microsoft, Bytedance and Amazon have committed to invest over RM60 billion in the country. 'Through the National Semiconductor Strategy, Malaysia has also received RM46.5 billion in investments in high-tech, high-growth, high-value sectors such as wafer fabrication, AI chips and integrated circuit production,' he said. The dinner also marked the 57th anniversary of FMM.

TVET Commission to streamline vocational education in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The government believes the new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Commission will create a more structured and industry-aligned education system. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the commission will eliminate overlaps and improve resource efficiency across ministries and institutions. He referenced Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's 13th Malaysia Plan speech, which emphasised strengthening the National TVET Policy 2030. 'The TVET Commission will regulate institutions, monitor strategy implementation, and ensure inter-ministerial coordination,' he said during the Dewan Rakyat session. Responding to Lee Chuan How (PH-Ipoh Timor), Ahmad Zahid acknowledged the need for better outreach to Chinese youth regarding TVET opportunities. He commended Lee, a TVET graduate, for actively promoting vocational education among students. 'His efforts have successfully encouraged Chinese students to join TVET programmes,' Ahmad Zahid added. On Felda land inheritance issues, he noted that the government started reviewing the Land Act (Group Settlement Areas) 1960 in September 2022. Five key priorities were identified, including governance improvements and protecting land ownership rights. The Felda Regulatory Division is committed to resolving housing concerns for second and third-generation settlers. Ahmad Zahid will visit Felda Jengka on Sept 6 to address these matters further. - Bernama

Felda enhances employment scheme with RM1,700 minimum wage

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Land Development Authority is enhancing its employment scheme with a RM1,700 minimum wage and a motorbike allowance, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Deputy Prime Minister said Felda currently employs 12,587 foreign workers on its estates as of July, with recruitment managed through Felda Plantation Management Sdn Bhd. 'To overcome the shortage of workers, Felda is also providing housing, Employees Provident Fund and Social Security Organisation contributions, as well as insurance coverage,' he said. Ahmad Zahid said this while winding up debates on the 13th Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (August 18). He said Felda was approved to recruit 3,000 foreign workers on July 27, 2024, and the quota was fully filled by March this year. Ahmad Zahid said the agency has streamlined the Small-Scale Contracting initiative to allow Felda settlers to participate as small contractors. He said larger agriculture tenders are being offered to qualified Felda-owned companies, adding that deductions from produce are used to cover estate operating costs, settlers' loans, and the Replanting Contribution Fund, which carries a guarantee. 'The Estate Insurance Collection was discontinued in June 2022, with estate recovery now managed at the scheme level,' said Dr Ahmad Zahid. 'The Replanting Fund remains, with deductions of RM12 per acre per month, though it is being reviewed to reflect current costs,' he added. Dr Ahmad Zahid then said that Felda also enforces a minimum income policy, where any costs or deductions that cannot be collected will be deferred and recovered the following month.
