Muscat: Al Rustaq claimed a precious 1-0 victory over Sur, as part of the 18th round of the Omantel League on Tuesday.
Al Rustaq dominated most of the first half and threatened Sur's goal with several attempts from Laith al Adawi and Ernest. The breakthrough came in the 36th minute when Al Adawi scored with a header following a precise cross from Ernest. Sur attempted to respond through counter-attacks but lacked effectiveness, ending the first half with Al Rustaq in the lead.
In the second half, both teams continued to press ahead. Sur had a notable chance in the 55th minute, and Al Rustaq responded with a shot over the bar in the 60th minute. Both coaches made substitutions to bolster their attacks. Abdullah al Mushaikhi and Aysar al Alawi stood out for Sur but couldn't change the result. The match ended with Al Rustaq taking all three points.
With this win, Al Rustaq raised their tally to 20 points, moving up to eighth place and distancing themselves from relegation danger. Sur remained on 13 points, remaining among the favourites for relegation.

SOHAR, AL KHABOURAH SHARE POINTS
Sohar and Al Khabourah played to a 1-1 draw at Al Rustaq Sports Complex as part of the Omantel League.
The first half saw a moderate level of play with both sides attempting to break the deadlock. Despite Al Khabourah's relative dominance in aerial balls, Sohar opened the scoring in the 41st minute through Saud al Muqbali, who finished from a cross, ending the half 1-0 in Sohar's favour.
Al Khabourah came out strongly in the second half and pressed for an equaliser, which came in the 51st minute via a header from Mohammed Lami off a cross. Both teams continued to trade attacks, but neither could secure the win, even with six minutes of added time, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.
Sohar's draw brings them to 18 points, slipping to 11th place, while Al Khabourah climb to 22 points in fifth place.
SAHAM, IBRI DRAW 2-2

In the second half, Saham responded strongly. Nigerian striker Adeniji Babatunde equalised in the 48th minute and scored again in the 72nd to give Saham a 2-1 lead. However, Ibri reacted quickly and levelled the score just two minutes later with a goal by Viston Abdul.

Al Ashri stressed that the team will enter the league with the ambition to compete for the title, despite the strength of the competition. He acknowledged the pressure, as is the case with all clubs, but emphasised that the team is determined to achieve positive results, starting with their opening match against Dhofar, which they view as a final before the league's break. Nigeria defeat Morocco to win WAFCON title

ABUJA: Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu led the football-mad nation in celebrating the women's squad after a stunning comeback to win a record-extending Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. The 3-2 victory against hosts Morocco in Rabat confirmed the west Africans as the queens of women's football in Africa as they pulled off a 10th title in 13 editions. Tinubu said the team's "spectacular performance... exemplifies the determination that defines the Nigerian spirit". The Super Falcons staged a remarkable comeback from being two goals down to beat Morocco on Saturday night. "You have lifted our spirits. You are a pride to your generation," Tinubu told the team in a post-match video call. "You have achieved the mission the nation dreamed of and prayed for. Nigeria celebrates you." Dubbed Mission X, the WAFCON title was a tonic for many Nigerians enduring the worst cost-of-living crisis in a generation as the government carries out reforms. Muhammad Awwal, a taxi driver who relocated to the northern city of Kano to escape the violence of Borno state, the epicentre of the jihadist insurgency, hailed the Falcons for helping Nigerians to "momentarily forget our common problems". "Everywhere people erupted in celebration after the final whistle. All our problems were drowned in the frenzy of celebration of the spectacular win," Awwal said. "Last night all the problems tormenting us - the high cost of living, banditry and Boko Haram violence - disappeared. "It was a great relief, thanks to the Falcons," he said. Abuja housewife Comfort Zamani, agreed: "Life has not been easy, but at least the girls helped us to forget the hardships even if for only a few hours," she said. "They have given us some hope that we should keep fighting and not give up even when things are rough." In the densely-populated neigbourhoods of Dako, Kabusa and Galadimawa of the Nigerian capital Abuja, loud cheers tore through the late night to celebrate Nigeria's two comeback goals. But the loudest cheers were heard when substitute Jennifer Echegini swept home a free kick with only two minutes left on the clock for the championship-winning goal, and then at full time. Sunday newspaper carried front page headlines such as "Unstoppable Falcons win 10th WAFCON from two goals down" and "Super Falcons rule Africa again". Chairman of the country's supporters club Vincent Okumagba further congratulated the players "for accomplishing 'Mission X' and for for "not giving up when they were down". — AFP
