Star Wars Celebration: ‘Star Wars: Visions' Reveals Season 3 Release Date, ‘The Ninth Jedi' Standalone Series
The big reveal came at the Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo, in a panel dedicated to the hit show, where Visions executive producer James Waugh confirmed that three of the most popular storylines from the first season of the show — 'The Duel,' 'The Village Bride' and 'The Ninth Jedi' — will be continuing in the upcoming third volume of episodes.

Waugh also revealed a 'bold new direction' for Visions with the introduction of the Star Wars: Visions Presents banner, which he said would be giving filmmakers a chance to tell deeper and more longform stories without the constraints of the shorter runtime of the typical Visions episodes. First up will be a spinoff standalone series of 'The Ninth Jedi' which will come out sometime in 2026.
'The Duel: Payback' will be directed by Takanobu Mizuno from anime studio Kamikaze Douga. 'The Lost Ones,' a followup to the 'The Village Bride,' will be helmed by Hitoshi Haga of Kinema Citrus. And Naoyoshi Shiotani of Production IG will direct 'The Ninth Jedi' followup 'Child of Hope.' The trio of filmmakers talked about their episodes and showed designs for new characters, much to the delight of the crowd (a four-legged AT-AT, with a Japanese building on top, elicited oohs and aahs).
The Ronin character from 'The Duel' has proven to be quite popular with Star Wars fans around the world, inspiring statues, and even a Hasbro Black Series figure.
Also at the panel, Masaki Tachibana of anime studio Kinema Citrus previewed an especially kawaii addition to the Star Wars universe for his installment, 'Yuko's Treasure.' The episode's young female protagonist will be accompanied by a large, bear-like droid with a microwave built into his belly. The reveal of the character in a short clip played in the convention hall drew delighted applause.
Hiroyasu Kobayashi of Project Studio Q discussed the darker and more mechanical world of his installment 'The Song of Four Wings,' which took the four blades of an X-Wing as its central motif.'We're a studio that specializes in the creation of mechanisms, so we really focussed on the essence of the old Joe Johnston designs and featured a lot of droids and mechs,' he explained while showing a still that featured an anime riff on an AT-AT walker.
'In general, Visions is a concept that really came from a passion for the animated medium,' said Waugh about the original inspirations behind the anthology and its focus on Japanese anime for its first and third volumes. 'I think we've always deeply admired the craftsmen that bring such great storytelling through animation. And so, as we were talking about how we could celebrate that, we ended up coming up with a concept really focused on anime and really focused on celebrating Star Wars through the anime perspective through the idea of really giving Japanese culture a spotlight within Star Wars and its influence on Star Wars in general.'
When it debuted in 2021, Visions was a bold creative choice by Lucasfilm as it was a collection of non-canon animated shorts created by different Japanese animation studios and featuring different animation styles. The lack of restrictions led to wildly imaginative interpretations of the Star Wars mythos that proved incredibly popular with fans and critics alike.
The first volume of Visions debuted on Disney+ in September 2021. The season included 9 episodes with work from Japanese animation studios Kamikaze Douga, Studio Colorido, Geno Studio, Trigger, Kinema Citrus, Production I.G. and Science Saru. Volume one was met with near universal acclaim from critics, and it enjoys a 98 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and 81 percent on Metacritic.
Volume two of Visions was released on Disney+ in May 2023, with episodes featuring work from a more international group of international studios, including Aardman (U.K.), El Guiri (Spain), Cartoon Saloon (Ireland), Punkrobot (Chile), Studio Mir (South Korea), Studio La Cachette (France), 88 Pictures (India), D'art Shtajio (Japan) along with Lucasfilm (U.S.), and Triggerfish (South Africa/Ireland). Volume two was likewise a huge hit with critics, with it scoring a perfect 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 88 percent on Metacritic.

Ron Howard Says ‘Solo' Creative Clash Is ‘Still Just a Shame': Lucasfilm Blamed Tonal ‘Disconnect' With Original Directors but Some of Their Footage Was ‘Great'
Ron Howard opened up to Vulture in more detail than ever before about taking over the helm of the 'Star Wars' prequel movie 'Solo' after Lucasfilm and original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller had creative differences. Howard said it all came down to the movie's tone. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy asked him to a lunch meeting, where they were joined by 'Solo' co-writer Jonathan Kasdan. 'They basically said, 'We've reached a creative impasse with Lord and Miller. Would you ever consider coming in?'' Howard remembered. 'I looked at some edited footage, and I saw what was bothering them. There was a studio that liked the script the way it was and wanted a 'Star Wars' movie, but there was a disconnect early on tonally, and they weren't convinced that what Phil and Chris were doing was working effectively.' But they were sure,' Howard continued. 'Once I said, 'Okay, I think I can do this script, and I think I understand what you want of this script,' they said, 'We'd want to reshoot a lot.' I looked at the whole movie and then pointed out some things that I thought were great. And Phil and Chris were incredibly gracious throughout that process. They were just seeing two different movies. So I came in, I had a blast, but there's nothing personal about that film whatsoever. It's still just a shame. I can't wait for Phil and Chris's next movie.' Howard even got the chance to consult with 'Star Wars' creator George Lucas, who was not involved in the development or filming of 'Solo.' Before Howard committed to taking over as 'Solo' director, he got advice from Lucas. The creator told him, 'Just don't forget — it's for 12-year-old boys.' 'Solo' was supposed to launch a new sector of storytelling for 'Star Wars' with young iterations of Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) being introduced and intended for sequels and spinoffs. The 2018 film also revealed that Darth Maul from 'The Phantom Menace' was still alive. None of these plans has taken shape after 'Solo' bombed at the box office with just $392 million worldwide. During an appearance on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast in 2019, Howard called the response to the film 'disappointing.' He said, 'It made a lot of money, it just didn't live up to expectations. I came in eager to help, felt like I could, and had a blast. Normally it takes three years, I worked eight months and had an experience. I feel very good about the way it turned out. I loved the way it played to audiences, which I witnessed. All of that I am able to feel good about.' Howard cited nostalgia as a reason 'Solo' might've bombed at the box office. 'Maybe it's the idea that it's too nostalgic,' he said. 'That going back and revisiting an origin story for a beloved character may not be what the fans were looking for.' Fever's Sophie Cunningham jabs Caitlin Clark with hilarious GOAT debate comment
Sophie Cunningham couldn't help herself when having a chance to take a friendly jab at her good friend Caitlin Clark. Cunningham had a hilarious reaction to an X user posting two photos of her, one with a group of goats at some sort of zoo and the other featuring her hugging Clark inside an arena. The user's caption read, 'these are the same picture,' in a nod to the idea of Clark being the GOAT of women's basketball, even this early in her career. Classic Disney Movie Getting Sequel Over 30 Years Later
Disney has a vast library between their own library and the acquisitions of other libraries owned by the likes of what's now 20th Century Studios and Lucasfilm. As such, the studio is quite often finding new ways to revisit its catalogue of notable IPs, and it looks like one such classic Disney movie could be getting a sequel over 30 years later. This particular Disney movie was first released by their Buena Vista Pictures Distribution label in 1993. It was a massive success having earned $154.9 million worldwide with a $17 million budget. Due to its story, however, it wasn't exactly the kind of movie that lent itself to a follow-up – at least not one that could be made immediately after. Now, according to a new report – that has changed. The studio apparently has a direction in mind that they think makes a sequel a viable project. Of course, it has yet to be confirmed, but given the studio's track record – they would no doubt be happy to revive this IP. The 1993 film is none other than Cool Runnings , a sports comedy form director Jon Turteltaub and screenwriters Lynn Siefert, Tommy Swerdlow, and Michael Goldberg, based on a story by Siefert and Michael Ritchie. Additionally, the overall story is inspired by the Jamaican national bobsleigh team that debuted at the 1988 Winter Olympics, and it's this unique setup that Disney is allegedly eyeing to recreate for a potential sequel. Specifically, Daniel Richtman suggests that the Cool Runnings sequel would focus on an all-female bobsleigh team if greenlit. This would be a departure from the original which starred Leon, Doug E. Doug, Rawle D. Lewis, Malik Yoba, and John Candy. Though considering Disney often has an interest in creating diverse stories and introducing characters that feel inclusive for new audiences, it would not be a surprise. As such, we'll have to see if this Disney movie gets off the ground, but there could be potential in a Cool Runnings sequel which makes the concept promising. Of course, whether or not fans are interested in this particular take remains to be seen. For a studio that has greenlit a vast number of sequels, reboots, and remakes in recent years, it does seem like a real possibility.
