Based on this colour code, micro-plans should be developed to make all local self-govt institutions antibiotic-smart.Antibiotics must be dispensed only in blue covers for identification and all hospitals, medical stores and pharmacies must implement this, she said. Steps have been taken to convert more hospitals into antibiotic-smart hospitals. With the help of organizations like IMA, API, IAP and CIDS, efforts will be intensified in the private sector. Health workers visited over 4,00,000 homes to raise awareness. The goal is to make the state antibiotic literate by Dec this year.For the first time in the country, George directed other districts to gradually release district-level antibiograms based on the hub-and-spoke model introduced by Ernakulam district. The nPROUD (new Programme on Removal of Unused Drugs) initiative implemented by state drugs control department in Kozhikode for the scientific collection and processing of expired and unused medicines will be expanded statewide. Kerala is also the only state conducting AMR surveillance at both secondary and primary levels.

Healthcare fraternity bids tearful adieu to doctor, wife
Surat: The last rites of renowned Surat-based surgeon Dr. Hitesh Shah and his wife, Amita Shah, were performed in Surat on Monday evening after their remains were transported from Ahmedabad. Dr. Shah, who ran Smit Hospital in Adajan Patiya, had served the community for over four decades. Their bodies were released to the family after DNA confirmation on Monday morning. A convoy arranged by the state government and Surat district administration brought them to the city. Local authorities coordinated to ensure a dignified ceremony. Dr. Shah's two sons, who live in the US, flew to India immediately upon learning of the tragedy. A graduate of Government Medical College, Surat, Dr. Shah completed his surgical specialization in 1982. Known for his humility, he treated medicine not as a business but a noble service. He would often waive charges for patients unable to pay. A music enthusiast, he regularly attended music classes. His wife, Amita Shah, was known for her ever-smiling presence and love for gardening.

AI 171 crash: IMA to hold prayer meet for 10 doctors and medical students
Ahmedabad: The devastating AI 171 airplane crash claimed the lives of six doctors and four medical students, officials from the Gujarat state branch of the Indian Medical Association (GSB-IMA) said. The officials, along with members of the medical fraternity from Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat, will participate in the event. According to IMA and AMA officials, the deceased include Dr Himanshu Sheth from Anand, Dr Hitesh Shah from Surat, Dr Taskin Saiyed from Ahmedabad and Dr Bhavesh Senta from Surat. The deceased passengers included the couple, Dr Prateek Joshi and Dr Komi Vyas from Rajasthan. The plane had crashed into the BJ Medical College hostel, claiming the lives of students Manav Bhadu, Jayprakash Chaudhary, Aryan Rajput and Rakesh Dihora, who were having their lunch at the time. Dr Tushar Patel, a pulmonologist and critical care specialist from the city, said that GSB-IMA and AMA members volunteered at Civil Hospital immediately after the incident and worked closely with the medical team.

Kerala govt to launch software to track blood banks
T'puram: Health minister Veena George announced the launch of 'Blood Bank Traceability Application' – a centralized software to provide real-time information on the availability of safe and suitable blood units across the state. As part of this initiative, a portal is being developed to allow the public to accurately check blood availability. The govt aims to make this portal accessible to the public by the end of the year. Once operational, information from blood banks will be readily available from anywhere, the minister said in a statement. To ensure the availability of blood, blood storage units or blood banks have been set up at all hospitals with maternity services, starting from community health centres. An advanced digital blood bag traceability system was implemented to monitor blood from collection to transfusion, while Kerala Rare Blood Donor Registry was launched for rare blood types. This is in addition to the new traceability software.
