Perodua assures high safety standards in development of first EV

By: Bernama Text Size: Perodua aims to finalise production of its first EV by October, with plans to market it by the end of the year. - Bernama pic SERDANG: Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) has emphasised that high safety standards are its top priority in the development of its first electric vehicle (EV). Its President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said Perodua is committed to ensuring that the EV, which is expected to be introduced by the end of this year, complies with strict safety standards to prevent any untoward incidents. He added that the 'safety first' concept is being applied comprehensively at every level of Perodua's product development, covering vehicle safety, factory operations, and worker safety. 'Insya-ALLAH, we hope our car that will be released later will meet certain safety standards that we have selected and defined,' he told reporters after attending the launch of the Voluntary Next Generation Vehicle (NxGV) Labelling Scheme here today. He was commenting on a recent incident involving an international EV brand that reportedly came to a sudden stop on the highway. Previously, local media reported that a family experienced a frightening moment when the electric vehicle they were in suddenly braked while being driven in the fast lane of the Cheras-Kajang Highway on May 1. On May 8, Zainal Abidin said Perodua aims to finalise production of its first EV by October, with plans to market it by the end of the year. He said in the initial phase, the vehicle will have over 30 per cent local content and will be assembled at its new plant in Rawang, Selangor, with a price tag under RM80,000.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said a total 11,109 applications have been received from e-hailing workers to contribute to the EPF. 'I would like to announce that the State Government is allocating nearly RM600,000 to assist those (e-hailing workers) who have yet to open up their EPF account,' he said at the Sabah Moto Day 8.0 at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Drill Field near here on Sunday. Hajiji was also glad to note that Sabah Moto Day continued to grow exponentially attracting about 60,000 motorcylists and motor enthusiasts from all over Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei this year. The presence of many riders and visitors proved that motorcycling activities continue to hold a place in the hearts of youths and the general public, he said. 'I am impressed to see the support shown by all participants, regardless of age, race and religion, coming together to share the same passion. 'We should view this gathering from a positive perspective, as it can contribute, to some extent, to the economic generation of our state due to the large number of participants and visitors in conjunction with this programme, he said. Advising participants of the Sabah Moto Day to prioritise safety while on road, Hajiji also hoped the gathering would help create greater safety awareness among the two- wheeler enthusiasts. The Chief Minister also informed the participants that the State Government viewed youths as asset, hence various initiatives have been implemented to develop the human capital. The State Government of today had spent a total RM1.33 billion including RM848.26 million for education assistance and RM485 million specifically for talent and skills development programmes from 2021 to 2025, he said. 'This has never been done by previous state governments. We are committed to develop our youths who are our future leaders,' he said. At the end of his speech, Hajiji also led the participants to offer Al-Fatihah prayer for the late Zara Qairina Mahathir.

Ahmad Zahid pushes for KEMAS contract staff permanent posts in Budget 2026
PASIR SALAK: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hopes the proposal to convert KEMAS contract staff into permanent positions will be part of Budget 2026. He stated the plan is under discussion and would not require new posts or extra expenditure. 'If implemented, this can set a precedent for other contract roles to become permanent without pension benefits,' he said. He urged for quick approval, noting the move would be beneficial and non-controversial.
