Yahoo30-03-2025
Loved ones are desperate for answers as they search for the suspect driver who killed a 21-year-old man in Orange County before speeding away.
Joshua Cervantes, 21, of Tustin, was killed by the driver on April 2, 2023 at around 2 a.m. as he and a friend, Amber Khan, were leaving a house party.
They had stood next to a car near the intersection of Ross Street and St. Gertrude Place for several minutes when a speeding SUV struck them and fled the scene.
Arriving officers found Cervantes lying on the road and unresponsive. He was rushed to a local trauma center and despite lifesaving measures, was pronounced dead. Khan suffered multiple injuries and was hospitalized for several days.
'All I can remember is that it came out of nowhere and hit me in the head,' Khan told KTLA's Chris Wolfe. 'I just remember seeing headlights and my friend on the floor in a pool of his own blood.'
Khan said the emotional trauma over losing her best friend will last a lifetime. She still suffers from nightmares over the crash and, along with Cervantes' family, wants justice for his death.
'My son was the world to us,' said Frances Morga, the victim's mother. 'He was so special. The last day I saw him, I gave him a hug and told him 'I love you,' and he said 'Mom, I love you,' and that was the night the accident happened. I don't know how to continue on without him. I miss him so much.'
His loved ones described Cervantes as a passionate artist who had plans to attend art school before he was killed.
The suspect vehicle is described as a silver or gold-colored early 2000s Ford Expedition SUV.
So far, the victim's family said investigators have no solid leads on the case. The family is offering a reward between $15,000 to $30,000 for anyone who can provide information leading to the suspect's capture.
Parents outraged after 11-year-old Pasadena student forced to duct tape her own mouth
'It's the worst thing that's ever happened to us,' Morga said. 'He was very loving. I just miss him so much. He was everything to me.'
'I'm just devastated,' Khan said. 'Somebody out there has to know something.'
Cervantes is survived by his parents, brother and community of friends. A candlelight vigil to honor Cervantes is being held on April 2 at 506 West Gertrude Street in Santa Ana at 7 p.m.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Santa Ana Police Department at 714-245-8665. Anonymous tips can be provided to OC Crime Stoppers at 1-855-847-6227 or online at occrimestoppers.org.

Out-of-control driver plows into 4 vehicles in Southern California; 2 dead, 4 injured

Two people are dead and at least four others were injured in what authorities are describing as a high-speed multi-vehicle collision in Santa Ana Monday night. Officers with the Santa Ana Police Department responded to reports of the violent crash on Main Street just north of Warner Avenue at around 6:35 p.m., officials confirmed to KTLA. Santa Ana PD Public Information Officer Natalie Garcia told reporters that the department received multiple calls about a vehicle traveling down Warner Avenue at a high rate of speed. 'It's very preliminary at this point. We know that – based on video surveillance that's circulating – a vehicle was travelling at a really high rate of speed northbound on Main when it lost control, went into the southbound lanes of traffic, driving on the wrong side of the road,' Garcia said. Dashcam video posted to Instagram moments before the crash appears to show a driver behind the wheel of a BMW speeding northbound down Warner Avenue in southbound lanes, narrowly missing the Tesla that captured the video. Arriving police and crews with the Orange County Fire Authority found four vehicles involved in the collision, several of whom were trapped inside the wreckage of one vehicle and had to be extricated. All four were rushed to a nearby hospital in unknown conditions. Two other victims, each in separate vehicles, were declared dead at the scene. Santa Clarita park a problem spot for late night parties, underage drinking It is unknown if the person speeding on the wrong side of the road was killed during the crash. In footage of the aftermath obtained by KTLA, firefighters can be seen attempting to get inside one of the involved cars, which was completely destroyed, with its entire front end smashed beyond recognition. Two other vehicles, a Honda and a Toyota SUV also both sustained devastating damages. Authorities said the investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing and that it's too early to determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact SAPD at 714-245-8701. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Hostage families sue ICC prosecutor, allege court has become 'branch of Hamas'

The lawsuit accuses ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan of turning the court into "a branch office of the terrorist organization," Hamas. The families of three hostages currently being held in the Gaza Strip by Hamas - Avinatan Or, Eitan Mor, and Omri Miran, filed a lawsuit for NIS 20 million against International Criminal Court Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan, NGO Shurat Hadin, which is representing the families, announced on Wednesday. The lawsuit accuses Khan of turning the court into "a branch office of the terrorist organization," Hamas. It demands that Khan be investigated for acting against Israel under ulterior motives - namely to sideline allegedly sexual abuse allegations against him. "The defendant not only slandered the State of Israel, not only presented false representations to the plaintiffs, but also provided services to terrorist organizations and assisted them," reads the lawsuit. It adds that when he finally did request arrest warrants for the three chief Hamas leaders - Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif and Ismail Haniyeh, all of whom were killed by Israel over the past two years - he coupled them with warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant. Additionally, the lawsuit notes that it took him eight months to issue the warrants. It further notes that warrants were not issued against leaders of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, who too held hostages captive, as well as against other Hamas leaders. Shurat HaDin chief: The ICC has become a branch of Hamas "The blood libels the defendant wove against the State of Israel and its leaders, by creating a false moral equivalence between the State of Israel — the victim — and the terrorists who hold the hostages and abuse them daily, granted legitimacy to the terrorists to continue extorting Israel while holding and abusing the hostages," reads the lawsuit. Shurat HaDin founder and president Nitsana Darshan-Leitner said, "The International Criminal Court has become a branch of Hamas. Through his direct actions, he gave an enormous tailwind to the terrorist murderers."

The attacker approached Harpal Singh on a bike in North Hollywood on Aug. 4 — then repeatedly bashed him with the club, before walking away, according to KTLA. Bo Richard Vitagliano, 44, was arrested Monday night — a week after the attack — and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell told reporters at a press conference Tuesday. The 'unhoused' suspect has 'an extensive criminal record,' including for narcotics, weapons and assault with a deadly weapon, the chief said. 3 Singh remained in a medically-induced coma as of Monday a week after he was attacked. justice for Harpal Singh The attack happened not far from the Sikh Gurdwara of Los Angeles — Singh's regular place of worship — but religion did not appear to be a factor in the attack, the chief said. 'Based on the evidence in this matter, North Hollywood detectives believe the assault was not a hate crime,' McDonnell stated. It instead seemed to be 'motivated by a dispute over property belonging to the victim,' the chief said, without elaborating on what. 3 Vitagliano approached Singh on a bike and beat him with a golf club. ktla5 However, the Sikh Coalition, an organization supporting the rights of Sikhs in the US, said they believe 'it is impossible to completely rule out a bias motive at this stage.'
