Man with 'distinctive tattoo' missing for two days
Police have launched a frantic search in an effort to trace a Scots man who vanished two days ago.
Andrew Newlands, 45, was last seen around 7.45am on Tuesday, July 29, in the Mains of Tannachy area of Portgordon in Moray.
Police say Andrew travelled to Aberdeen by car and is now believed to have made his way to the London area. Officers describe him as around 5ft 8ins, with short, dark hair. He wears black glasses and has a tattoo on his right forearm, saying 'Bear.' When Andrew was last seen he was wearing a navy jumper, black trousers and white trainers.
Sergeant Michelle MacDonald said: 'Concerns are growing for Andrew's welfare and it is important that we make sure he is safe and well. 'We are asking anyone who has seen Andrew or knows where he might be to get in touch. "Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference number 3394 of Wednesday, 30 July, 2025."

Andrew once vowed to fight against sex trafficking amid the furore of his links to paedophile pal Jeffrey Epstein. And US lawyer Gloria Allred said the disgraced Duke should honour that pledge by finally testifying before Congress on what he knows about the late tycoon's activities and help victims get justice. Andrew, 65, is accused of refusing to co-operate with US investigators, despite giving a BBC interview in which he denied sleeping with Virginia Giuffre, a teenage sex trafficking victim of Epstein's. Ms Allred, who represents several Epstein victims, said: 'There's nothing Prince Andrew can say or do to make it go away. It is news now all over the world. People want to know, who was involved in trafficking or sexually abusing children? 'That's a legitimate question. His silence is a statement that he's not willing to help for some reason. So all I can say is, now more than ever, he should come forward. 'He could volunteer to testify publicly. He volunteered to give an interview on the BBC, why can't he now volunteer to give an interview to the Justice Department or Congress, or both? 'I called on Andrew to speak to the FBI. I would say now more than ever, it's urgent. Is he willing to testify before Congress? Is he willing to give more information to the Justice Department? And if not, why not?' Andrew reached a multi-million pound settlement with Ms Giuffre in 2022 – without admitting liability – despite his denial that he had sex with her when she was 17. A picture appearing to show the Prince with his arm round the teenager also emerged, but he has repeatedly and vehemently denied the pair ever met. At the time of Andrew's payout, a statement on his behalf read: 'He pledges to demonstrate his regret for his association with Epstein by supporting the fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims.' As a foreign national, Andrew cannot be subpoenaed to appear before Congress. But Ms Allred said he does not even have to visit the US to give his side of the story. And she told how she believes the Duke's name is in US government files on Epstein's sick operations, which she said should be made public. Ms Allred said: 'Many in Congress have said that they support the release of the file. I'm talking about Republicans and Democrats. 'US Attorney Geoffrey Berman called publicly on Prince Andrew to give an interview to the FBI and the Justice Department. That never happened. That's why I'm saying his name has to be in the file. You don't have to be subpoenaed to be willing to testify. He could testify. He should testify. 'I think there should be a release of all the files, which are apparently more than 100,000 pages, part of the Justice Department files, which would've included investigations by the FBI. The names of the victims or identifying information should not be released.' The Duke has not visited to the US in recent years, amid claims he fears lawsuits. But Ms Allred added: 'He shouldn't be in fear if he did nothing wrong. But he doesn't have to come back here. I would think his testimony, if Congress wanted to take it, perhaps he could do a deposition in the UK.' Andrew harbours hopes to return to royal life after being stripped of public duties in the wake of the scandal over Ms Giuffre, who took her own life in April at the age of 41. His friendship with Epstein, who died aged 66 at a New York jail in August 2019 while awaiting a trial on sex trafficking of minors, brought shame on the Royal Family. The pair were pictured together in 2010 strolling through Central Park, after Epstein's 2008 conviction for procuring girls for sex. Epstein's ex-girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell is serving a 20-year jail sentence in the US after being convicted in 2021 of helping him find girls for sex. The fallout from the Epstein scandal has caused a rift among supporters of Donald Trump. The US President recently reneged on his election campaign vow to release files on the sex offender. It came after Attorney General Pam Bondi even boasted the documents were 'on her desk', only for the Department of Justice to later claim no such papers exist. The decision not to release the files followed Mr Trump's one-time best pal Elon Musk claiming the President's name appears in them. Trump had a close friendship with Epstein spanning more than three decades. The pair were pictured in 2000 with the then-businessman's future wife Melania and Maxwell.

Police say the death is being treated as 'unexplained' at the moment. Cops have locked down a cemetery in a Scots town after a body was found. Emergency crews were alerted to the discovery this afternoon, Friday, August 1, at around 4:10pm. Police are treating the death as 'unexplained' and said their enquiries are ongoing into the incident. Locals reported that officers have blocked all the entry points to the cemetery as they investigate the death. An area within the cemetery is said to have been taped off and a heavy police presence remains in the area tonight. Speaking to STV, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 4.10pm on Friday, August 1, 2025, the body of a man was found in a cemetery in Greenock. 'The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.'

Scots mum fears as boy 'tries to strangle her daughter' at primary school

A Scots mum fears for her daughter's life after she claimed a boy in her child's class attempted to strangle her on 'five occasions.' The mum, who we have chosen not to name to protect her daughter's identity, has said her nine-year-old has been observed to have PTSD symptoms, anxiety and incontinence as a result of the multiple alleged attacks. The young girl, who is diagnosed as autistic, had previously suffered violence at another Midlothian school and was later moved to her current primary, reports Edinburgh Live. At first the mum was hopeful as the school was classed as one of the highest rated in the region but her daughter is claimed to have fallen victim to repeated acts of violence. The first incident is understood to have taken place in September 2024, with the second in February 2025, and a third and fourth incident coming in March 2025, as well as another taking place in the final term of 2025. On three occasions, attempts to strangle her daughter took place in school with another two taking place at the after school club. However, the mum has since removed her daughter from the club. In an image shows a red mark is visible on the young girl's neck after what the mum claimed was one of the strangulation attempts. 'There have been three instances of her being strangled at school and two at the after school club by the same boy,' she claimed. 'After the first incident we were told preventative steps were put in place but it keeps happening. 'On the second occasion I got a call from the deputy head telling me another boy had pinned her down while the same boy strangled her. I was then assured they would be separated and I was confident something would be done as staff seemed understanding. That was until it happened again. 'It is a tricky situation and I understand the other child has a right to an education but so does my child,' she added. 'At what point does this boy's right to an education trump my daughter's right to be safe? 'Unbelievably the school said she could be moved class and when I suggested the boy should be, as my daughter has already faced disruption, they said absolutely not. 'Why is it ok for her to be moved and not him? We had to put her into play therapy just to get her back into school after initially pulling her out. 'When my child was off school the boy targeted another young girl. So if she is moved class, it will not solve the problem. 'Her therapist observed PTSD symptoms in her, the violence is having a real psychological impact. Her whole future is being shaped by this. 'She is drawing pictures of herself with head injuries and writing 'I Hate School.' She is repeatedly telling us she does not feel safe and nothing is happening. 'As a mother, why do I have to risk my daughter's life by sending her to school? I tried to home school but I need to work or we will lose our house and income.' Concerns were heightened after the mum claimed that the young boy was found to have snapped cutlery items which were sharpened to points in his school tray at the end of the school year. 'On the last week of term, items were found in this boy's tray, forks and spoons with ends snapped off and sharpened into a point. My daughter and another boy told the teacher and he became physical and started threatening them. 'What if one of these weapons was used on my daughter? The first time could be fatal for her. 'He has also told her repeatedly she should be dead, she is adopted and she is a 'f*****g b***h.' She is in so much psychological distress. 'He has left her with marks on her neck from the strangulation. Ultimately the responsibility to do something lies with the council. 'Teachers are not paid to deal with this, they have classes of up to 30 kids and they are struggling. The boy strangling her is clearly not getting the right support and my daughter is receiving close to none. At what point does his behaviour become fatal? 'It is so easy for them to brush it off as kids being kids but we know where this leads to.' A Midlothian Council spokesman said: 'As we would always advise, families should work with the school. We do not comment on individual cases.'
