Mansfield sign midfielder Hendry from Tranmere
Mansfield Town have signed Regan Hendry on a two-year deal after the midfielder ended discussions about staying with League Two side Tranmere Rovers.The 27-year-old Scot was among eight players in talks with Rovers about new deals earlier this month, but he has opted to move up to League One with the Stags.Hendry, who came through Celtic's youth teams before going on to start his senior career with Raith Rovers, last featured in England's third tier with Forest Green Rovers in 2023.And it was at Mansfield on the final day of the 2021-22 season that Hendry helped Forest Green clinch the League Two title.He moved to Tranmere on loan by the middle of the following season, before making his stay at Prenton Park permanent in the summer of 2023.Stags boss Nigel Clough said the central midfield is a player that the club has "admired for some time"."He's an all-round midfield player who can play two or three different roles and will complement the midfielders who we already have in the squad," Clough told the club website.

And the clubs are all set to clash again next week when the Soccer Tournament (TST) gets underway in North Carolina - with Ben Tozer set to pull on a Wrexham shirt once more. For the third consecutive year, Wrexham Red Dragons take their spot in the event, which will be played in Cary, and the men continue their tilt at the $1 million prize against Bournemouth in their second Group F game on Wednesday, June 4. The Dragons will open their tournament against Real Athletico earlier in the day, while the group is completed by the CONCAFA SC. Wrexham Red Dragons women are also set for the competition, which starts in Group B with a clash versus Ultrain FC. Kansas City II and Drunken Monkeys are the other two teams in the group. 'TST soccer is electrifying,' said TST CEO Jon Mugar. 'Our goal is to become the preeminent soccer festival in the world. Judging by the number of returning fans and teams, we are well on our way. 'We have doubled the size of the women's field and a record 64 teams will compete in Cary. I can't wait to see the level of competition this June!' Goalkeeper Mark Howard has been a standout figure, keeping clean sheets and scoring clutch Target Score Time goals. Another impressive player has been striker George Boyd, holding the title of the tournament's all-time leading scorer with 11 goals. Former club captain Tozer, who this week announced his retirement, will represent Wrexham at the tournament. Passes installed to help eels move through Somerset rivers
Endangered eels have been given a boost thanks to a project to help them access the habitat they need to eel passes are being installed in the North Moor and King's Sedgemoor areas to help them move around the ditch network of the Somerset Levels passes act as ladders that allow eels to swim up and over weirs and more easily through the rhynes and project, funded by Natural England, is being carried out by the Parrett Internal Drainage Board. Ecologist, Phil Brewin, said: "We are confident the decline in eel numbers experienced in recent years can be reversed." Glass eels swim to Europe from their breeding grounds in the Sargasso Sea. They arrive in the Severn Estuary in large numbers each spring before swimming inland via the River Brue and River Parrett where they mature ahead of making the return journey.A big threat to the creatures are manmade structures in watercourses such as weirs that act as a barrier, blocking their movement, but the eel passes allow them to bypass the barriers and complete their journey to new habitats. Simon Phelps, project lead for Natural England said: "Eels are a fascinating species and we're lucky to have them in Somerset."We hope to be able to do more of this type of thing in the future, to make the Levels and Moors a more welcoming place for this special creature."An eel pass was installed in Nottinghamshire in December and a fish pass on the River Severn in Worcester has allowed rare twaite shad to reach an ancient spawning ground for the first time in 180 years.
