The ex-Suits actress said the duo were "like-minded thinkers" after she helped edit an edition in 2019.
But the pair cut contact and their fall out has been shrouded in mystery.
As reported by the Mail on Sunday, the real reason behind their bitter dispute has finally been revealed.
Sources claim their fall out was over Enninful's plans to cover Meghan and Harry's charity work in a feature.
He wanted to showcase the Duchess' keynote speech at the One Young World Summit in Manchester in 2022.
But Conde Nast insiders allege it was axed suddenly.
A Conde Nast insider claimed: "The duchess and her team had high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it, but Enninful was not able to meet those expectations.
"He already had a magazine cover in the bag for that month."
"The whole process became very difficult. Edward could only promise her a big showy feature inside the magazine and online – but she turned it down."
After being told they wouldn't make the cover, sources claim Meghan asked to be on the special digital cover which would be available with the print edition.
Her request was refused, by Enninful, because he didn't think it would be "appropriate".

The Duchess was so offended she walked away from the offer completely, leaving the former editor "furious".
It is understood this was his breaking point and their friendship was fractured beyond repair.
Insiders also claim it hasn't gone unnoticed in the Sussex household how much more involvement Enninful has with the Royal Family.
Enninful is now a trustee for The King's Fund, King Charles's charity.
And, he hosted a glitzy New York event for The King's Trust earlier this month - and Meghan was definitely not on the list sources claim.
This comes after fans claimed Meghan was "snubbed by Vogue" after she didn't appear on Enninful's final cover.
The Duchess was noticeably absent from the impressive shoot, featuring 40 "of the most booked and blessed women on earth".
Meghan's friends including Ophra, Serena Williams, and Jameela Jamil all appeared in the glamorous picture marking the March 2024 edition.
Meg became close with Enninful while guest editing the September 2019 issue.
She left herself off the cover over fears she'd look 'boastful' and chose to instead focus on 15 women who 'break barriers'.
Enninful also previously stood by Harry and Meghan amid their bombshell Oprah interview in 2021.
The former Vogue editor was one of 15 Conde Nast employees who watched the sensational conversation air live in the United States via a video link from their homes in the UK.
Enniful was in "constant contact" with Meghan using WhatsApp as he watched the duchess's chat with Oprah, the Daily Mail reported.
A source close told the paper: "There were around 15 people on the Zoom, all top Conde Nast people.
"They felt it was important from an editorial perspective that they got together to watch it."
However, royal biographer Tom Bower previously claimed in his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War between the Windsors, that Meghan and Enninful feuded during the creation of Vogue's September 2019 issue.
Staff were described as being left in "silent exasperation" at Meghan and her demands.
It claimed the duchess proposed poor ideas, and accused her of being difficult to approach with opposing suggestions.
Bower also wrote that Enninful and Meghan had a difference of opinion on how to market the edition - as the former actress wished to leak snippets online before its release, while the editor thought secrecy was best.
Meghan even asked if the magazine could hit the shelves in the US before the UK, according to the book, which ruffled feathers with head of communications, Sara Latham.
The Sussexes have been contacted for comment.
Meghan Markle and beanie-wearing Prince Harry attend famous singer-songwriter's gig
By Owen Scott
MEGHAN Markle and a beanie-wearing Prince Harry have boasted about attending a hugely famous singer-songwriter's gig - and even left with a signed book.
The pair, with Harry sporting a grey beanie to match his coat, even took a photograph with the singer.
The actress was pictured with music icon James Taylor - the hitmaker behind tracks including You've Got a Friend and Fire and Rain.
Meghan posted a picture with the singer which she captioned: "In my concert era. Thanks James!"
She included a snap of herself and Harry with James, alongside the singer's son Henry Taylor.
Meghan also posted a picture of the Prince and the singer standing together.
Harry wore a simple grey beanie, covering up his famous red hair, and an understated grey jacket.
In another picture, Meghan even revealed that she was given a signed book from the famous songster.
Entitled Sweet Baby James - which is also the title of one of the singer's hit albums - the book contains illustrated pop-up designs and sells for $25.
James is currently on tour in the United States with his special guest Tiny Habits.
Meghan posted a picture from the crowd at his concert in Santa Barbara, California, on May 14 - one of the earliest dates on the tour.
The actress and her husband have made headlines in recent months, after rumours emerged which claimed they were involved in the Beckhams' widely reported feud.
According to an insider, Nicola Peltz and her husband Brooklyn Beckham dined at the Sussex's home.
The source said: 'Harry and Meghan were very empathetic and very kind to them both.
'Harry was fully aware of the situation and offered Brooklyn his unwavering support as someone who has been through similar.'
Brooklyn had shunned all of David's 50th birthday celebrations, sparking rumours of a feud.
David is said to be "heartbroken" by the rift with his son, which has been described as Victoria's "worst nightmare".
The Sussexes' dinner with Brooklyn and his wife took place at their home in Montecito - where they live with Archie and Lilibet.

Aston Villa icon looks unrecognisable as Jack Grealish posts Instagram message

Jack Grealish admitted he was left starstruck after bumping into Aston Villa legend Olof Mellberg, who is now unrecognisable from his playing days Jack Grealish says he was left starstruck after bumping into a barely recognisable Olof Mellberg. Despite now playing under the legendary Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and sharing a dressing room with football greats like Kevin De Bruyne, it seems an encounter with ex-Aston Villa defender Mellberg made a significant impression on him. The lifelong Villa supporter seized the moment to capture the meeting on Instagram. With his arm around Mellberg for the photo, Grealish pointed enthusiastically at the Swede, a broad grin spread across his face. ‌ Next to the image of the pair, the City midfielder wrote: "Not many people that I get starstruck over, but this guy is one! Big Olof Mellberg. One of my boyhood heroes." ‌ Now sporting a different look from his Villa Park days, the 47-year-old, with tousled hair and a bushy, greying beard, appeared equally pleased to see Grealish. Mellberg signed for Villa from Racing Santander in 2001 for a fee around £5million. It proved to be money well spent as the hard-tackling icon spent seven seasons with the club. He clocked up 263 appearances, scored eight goals and even captained Villa for several seasons. He also helped the club win the Intertoto Cup in 2001. In 2008, Mellberg moved to Juventus, where he stayed for a year before switching to Greek side Olympiacos for three seasons. Short stints at Villareal and Copenhagen followed, before he retired in 2014. ‌ Having turned to management, he took the reins of Swedish outfits IF Brommapojkarna and Helsingborg, as well as Norway's Fremad Amager. His latest venture led him stateside with St. Louis City SC, but his tenure was cut short as he was shown the door after a solitary season in MLS. Grealish, who made an eye-watering £100m switch from Villa to Manchester City in 2021, is now on the periphery at the Etihad following four years with the club. After spending much of this season warming the bench, speculation is rife about where he will land next. The 29-year-old has been linked with Everton, Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham. A return to Villa Park continues to be whispered about, though it appears off the cards for the moment. ‌ Speaking towards the end of the season, Guardiola also hinted that Grealish's future could lie away from Eastlands. "Of course, Jack has to play," Guardiola said. "He's an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days. It didn't happen this season and last season either. He needs to do it, and that's with us, or another place. And that's a question for Jack, his agent, and the club." Grealish will set to miss out on the Club World Cup this summer, with his main priority being to find a new club ahead of the 2025/26 season and the World Cup next summer, if he still has realistic ambitions of playing for England at the tournament.

More info Meghan Markle faced ridicule on TalkTV after revealing a video of her attempting a spot of twerking in a hospital suite during labour with her daughter Lilibet. Meghan's antics were met with a parody treatment as presenter Kevin O'Sullivan donned a dark wig and makeshift bump to mimic the Duchess in labour, dancing along to the tune of 'Baby Mama'. Sporting the getup, O'Sullivan also had a go at imitating Prince Harry with a ginger wig. In a mockingly captioned clip, TalkTV quipped: "Inspired by Meghan Markle's hospital twerking video, Kevin O'Sullivan gives it a go. But is his baby bump REAL?" poking fun at the conspiracy theories that questioned the authenticity of Meghan's pregnancies. The spoof, complete with a digitally rendered hospital backdrop, sent viewers into fits of laughter, leading them to lavish praise on the presenter for his comical gyrations. One viewer exclaimed, "Kevin got the moves! Looking good there," while another playfully commented, "Ffs these just keep getting better and better! !". A third lauded, "Spitting image of them two," with a fourth echoing the sentiment, "Oh Kevin.. I really wanted to see you twerk.. lol,"reports the Express. Despite the comedy, one person pointed out, "This is hilarious, but tbf, any woman who has given birth will know she'll have that big strap around her belly where they attach the heart monitor devices etc." Another defended Meghan, saying, "I can't stand the woman but her bump was real." The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have faced criticism for sharing a video amidst their quest for a more private life outside the Royal family. However, since rejoining Instagram earlier this year, Meghan has been giving fans a glimpse into their family life. Marking her daughter's fourth birthday, Meghan shared a post saying: "Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates... so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work - there was only one thing left to do!" She added laughing emojis to the post. She also posted a heartwarming photo of Prince Harry holding Lilibet as a newborn and another of him holding her hand as a child, writing: "The sweetest bond to watch unfold. Daddy's little girl and favorite adventurer. Happy birthday Lili!".

KATHERINE'S FACE LIFT 9 Katherine admitted she will have a face lift at some point Credit: Getty Both Grace and Katherine said they were tempted, with the latter saying: 'I WILL have a face lift.' Katheine, who hasn't had any cosmetic surgery on her face so far – although she has had filler, Botox, and a boob job – revealed that she is not only planning a face lift but is also considering additional treatments. Katherine, a mother of three, admitted she is seriously thinking about it after gifting her mum a face lift for her birthday. She added: 'Recovery is fine. 'She looked beautiful, like day one, she looked good. 'Been a swelling days like two to 12, and then she looked good again, and she was going out. 'Now she wasn't under scrutiny, being like papped, but she looked good, and she couldn't feel her face. 'She was medicated, which some would say is the best part. She was fine.' What is a face lift and how quick is the recovery? A FACE lift (technically called a rhytidectomy) is a cosmetic surgical procedure which tries to reduce visible signs of ageing in the face and neck. The procedure begins with either general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with sedation to ensure you're comfortable and pain-free. The surgeon makes incisions based on the type of face lift. The surgeon lifts the skin and underlying tissues (SMAS layer – superficial musculoaponeurotic system). Fat may be sculpted, removed, or redistributed. The underlying muscle and connective tissues are tightened and repositioned to create a more youthful look. The skin is gently laid back over the newly repositioned contours and incisions are closed with sutures (medical stitch) or skin adhesives. Recovery time varies, but most people return to normal activities within two to four weeks. MUM'S FACE LIFT Katherine previously revealed that she paid '50 grand' for her mum to have a face lift. Speaking on Vogue Williams' Never Live It Down podcast, the actress explained that her mum Julie was 63 at the time and added that it was a 'good age to get a face lift.' Katherine defended getting work done and said: 'I think there are people who look at plastic surgery, cosmetic, you know, treatments, anything, and they feel sad. 9 Katherine said she bought her mum a face lift as a gift Credit: Getty 'They're like, 'there are more important things in life'. We know! ''She should love herself more'. I do! 'Those are the funniest comments when men will try to be allies, and they'll come in and they'll go, 'do you know, ladies, men don't actually want you to'. 'And I go, 'nothing that we do is for you at all. I don't care what you think'. ''I don't care if you live or die.'.' PREGNANT KATHERINE This comes as Katherine has revealed she's expecting baby number four. The 41-year-old and her partner Bobby Koostra will welcome another baby together, in an exciting addition to their family, just two months after Katherine's skin cancer diagnosis. 9 Katherine has three children with her husband Bobby, including son Fred, three, and daughter Fenna, two, as well as 15-year-old Violet from a previous relationship Credit: UKTV Katherine has two children with her husband Bobby, including son Fred, three, and daughter Fenna, two, as well as 15-year-old Violet from a previous relationship. And now, she'll be adding baby number four to the brood, as reported by Hello!
