5 Seconds of Summer's Calum Hood Gives in to Heartbreak on Solo Debut ‘Don't Forget You Love Me'

Yahoo10-04-2025

5 Seconds of Summer bassist Calum Hood steps into the spotlight alone on his solo debut 'Don't Forget You Love Me,' an enthralling introduction that finds him walking a tightrope between self-reflective (and at times self-destructive) despair and relieving reconciliation. The record will appear on his debut album Order Chaos Order, out June 13, which emerged from a kindred dichotomy.
'This album was made in a tumble dryer of knowing and not knowing. I started out with a vision — order — but quickly became overwhelmed by the process — chaos. Eventually, I learned to embrace both, and that balance became the heart of the record,' Hood shared in a statement.

Embracing hard truths doesn't come as easily for Hood on 'Don't Forget You Love Me,' but the effort he puts into doing so is evident in the grit of his emotional pleas across the single. 'And I know that it's hard to see/Every version of me/But it's not the same as everything you ever thought/I ever could/But never would be,' he sings. 'But I've tried enough to call you/and I'm scared that you'll pick up/cause I know that I don't want you to/cause baby I would have to own up/To everything oh everything I've done to you/and all I did to us.'
Hood has served as a primary songwriter in 5SOS since their earliest records, the Unplugged and Somewhere New EPs released in 2012. But until now, he hasn't sought to break away from the band. The closest he came to a solo release was the one-off demo 'Bad Dreams' that he posted and swiftly deleted on X (then Twitter) in the dead of the night back in 2013, presumed to be a scrapped 5SOS album cut.
Hood's collaborators on the 10-track album include Day Wave's Jackson Phillips, David Burris, and TMS (Lewis Capaldi, Niall Horan). Jack LaFrantz, who was a primary songwriter on Benson Boone's Fireworks & Rollerblades, is a co-writer on 'Don't Forget You Love Me.'
Order Chaos Order, will check the final box on 5SOS solo projects. Earlier this month, guitarist Michael Clifford launched his debut solo album Sidequest with the pop punk-influenced single 'Cool.' Drummer Ashton Irwin was the first to go solo in 2020 with Superbloom, which he followed up with Blood on the Drums in 2024. Frontman Luke Hemmings followed in 2021 with When Facing the Things We Turn Away From and in 2024 with Boy.
Hemmings — who has previously expressed that Hood was the first person in his personal life to inspire him as a songwriter — told Rolling Stone last year that each member being allowed to explore musical journeys on their own is key to keeping 5SOS alive. 'I know solo projects can be scary for fans of bands, but for me it's the way that the band can live on forever,' he said. 'In my eyes, that's the way I see it.'
It's a type of catharsis. In a statement, Hood shared: 'There are things I've never been able to sing about in the band — my upbringing, my family, the places life has taken me. This album is about laying those things to rest and allowing listeners to connect in their own way.'

Jennie's "Ruby" makes it to Rolling Stone's "Best Album of 2025 So Far"

9 Jun - Jennie Kim of BLACKPINK was revealed to be the only K-pop act to have made it into Rolling Stone's "Best Albums of 2025 So Far" list for her first solo album, "Ruby". The singer joined the likes of other big names such as Lady Gaga ("Mayhem") and Bad Bunny ("Debí Tirar Más Fotos") to receive recognition from the renowned magazine, with Rolling Stone comparing "Ruby" to the works of Rihanna. "Not only does Jennie have an impressive ability to command the centre of candy-coated pop-R&B, there are some moments that feel like, if not direct, at least second-generation descendants of the hazy introspection shown by the Barbadian mogul on her 2016 classic Anti," the magazine wrote. It is noted that Jennie was heavily involved in the making of her namesake album that was released back in March, which is said to be inspired by Shakespeare's "As You Like It" Aside from the chart-topping "Like Jennie", the album also features several collaborations, including "ExtraL" with rapper Doechii and "Love Hangover" with Dominic Fike. Conan Gray Announces New Album ‘Wishbone'

Conan Gray surprised fans this morning by announcing that his fourth album, Wishbone, will be released on August 15th. The lead single, 'This Song,' is set to drop next week. Gray shared the news in a lengthy post, revealing that he had been slowly writing new music on his own, late after shows and between tours over the past two years. 'I'd come back home and write all the things I felt nobody wanted to hear,' he explained, 'maybe even the things i didn't want people to hear.' 'But over time, I began to feel something I'd never felt before,' he wrote. 'I started to need the music. I listened in airports, in long cab trips, blaring in the shower. In heartbreak, then in joy. I started to play it for my friends, and they started to need it too. In car ride requests with the windows down, in a split pair of wired headphones on the subway home. It became an egregiously niche soundtrack to our own lives in real time, singing just for us.' After playing the songs for frequent collaborator Daniel Nigro, Gray began to record the album. 'It felt like the music was reminding me who I am, at an experimental time in my twenties where 'who I am' had no definition at all,' he continued. 'My driftwood childhood in texas. My lucid summers in London. My blue striped bed sheets in my college apartment.' Gray added that every song was written by himself, in his pajamas, in his bed. Nigro, along with Ethan Gruska, Noah Conrad, Elvira Anderfjärd, and Luka Kloser, produced the album. The fantastical album cover depicts Gray dressed like a sailor floating on a pillow and holding a large wishbone of the album's namesake. 'Here's so much left to say, but I'll say it in the music,' he wrote. In a postscript to the message, he added that 'a wishbone never breaks even.' Gray released his third LP Found Heaven last April. He subsequently went on tour that summer in support of the album. He'll be playing Governors Ball in New York this June. Miley Cyrus hid cost of drugs from accountant by disguising them as vintage clothing purchases

Miley Cyrus concealed the cost of drugs from her accountant during the making of her 2015 album by disguising them as high-end vintage clothing purchases. The 32-year-old singer and songwriter, whose battles with drink and drugs have been well-documented, made the admission during an appearance on the Every Single Album podcast. Speaking about the period surrounding her experimental album Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz, Miley said: 'We called (drug purchases) vintage clothes. And every time (my accountant) saw me, she'd be like, 'Where's that, like, $15,000 original John Lennon T-shirt that you bought?' 'It's like, 'Oh, it's upstairs.' So I bought a lot of vintage clothes that year.' The Grammy-winning artist went on to explain to avoid suspicion, she would tell her accountant the garments were 'really delicate' and needed to be stored away to 'protect' them. She added: 'I'm so glad I survived that time in my life. I would definitely not encourage anyone else to go this hard, but the fact that I got through it, I'm very glad I got to do it.' Miley, who rose to prominence as a Disney Channel star before launching a highly successful music career, has long been candid about her relationship with drugs. In a 2013 interview with Rolling Stone, she said: 'Hollywood is a coke town, but weed is so much better. And molly, too. Those are happy drugs – social drugs. They make you want to be with friends. You're out in the open. You're not in a bathroom.' In 2017, she revealed she had gotten sober after rekindling her relationship with then-partner Liam Hemsworth. She told Billboard magazine: 'I haven't smoked weed in three weeks, which is the longest I've ever (gone without it,) I'm not doing drugs, I'm not drinking, I'm completely clean right now!' But in November 2020, Miley acknowledged that she had relapsed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking publicly at the time, she confirmed the setback but said she had resumed sobriety within two weeks. Miley has also recently been in the headlines over a rumoured rift with her country-rock singer father Billy Ray Cyrus, but other reports have said the two have quietly reconciled.
