SEC powers LSU and Arkansas entered the 2025 NCAA Men's College World Series in Omaha as the co-favorites to win this year's title, but the Tigers quickly put the Razorbacks on the verge of elimination.
LSU -- which beat Arkansas 4-1 last Saturday and took down UCLA 9-5 in a game that started on Monday and was completed on Tuesday due to a weather delay -- is the odds-on favorite to win the College World Series for the second time in three years.
Arkansas bounced back from the loss to LSU in its CWS opener with a 3-0 win over Murray State on Monday, as starter Gage Wood made history with a 19-strikeout, complete game no-hitter.
The Razorbacks then notched a 7-3 win over UCLA on Tuesday to set up Wednesday's clash with the Tigers.
Including a 2-1 regular-season series win at home and their CWS matchup in Omaha last Saturday, the Tigers have won three of the four games this season between these teams.
Arkansas would be eliminated from the CWS with a loss tonight. LSU, on the other hand, would face Arkanas again on Thursday if it loses tonight's game, as it is 2-0 so far in the double-elimination opening stage of the College World Series.

LSU vs. Arkansas Betting Analysis, Preview
Typically, when a team starts the College World Series 2-0, it would have a day off and its No. 3 pitcher fresh for the first game of the semifinal matchup.
LSU, however, had to use its third starter -- freshman righty Casan Evans -- in its game against UCLA due to the delay that ended No. 2 starter Anthony Eyanson's night after three innings pitched. Evans was solid (2 earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched) when play resumed to get the Tigers the win over UCLA.
Instead of having Tuesday off, coach Jay Johnson's team played five innings vs. a Bruins squad that was fighting to keep its season alive.
So, the question tonight is who LSU will have on the mound. Eyanson only threw 44 pitches in his three-inning appearance on Monday night. That means he could come on in relief in this game, but we probably won't know who LSU is counting on as its starters and setup men until tonight's game is underway.
Arkansas has played three games -- including two of the win-or-go-home variety -- and used eight pitchers, which means it is also going to be testing the depth of its pitching staff tonight.
Top reliever Aiden Jimenez and starters Wood and Zach Root are most likely unavailable, so Arkansas will likely be starting either Landon Beidelschies (4.92 ERA) or Ben Bybee (4.38 ERA), according to Jackson Fuller of the Fort Smith Southwest Times Record.
Beidelschies faced LSU on May 11 and was shelled, giving up four hits -- including two homers -- and three earned runs in just two innings in his second-worst appearance of the season by ERA (13.5).
Bybee did not fare well vs. the Tigers during the regular season, either. He allowed two hits, two runs (one earned) and a homer in 1.1 innings (ERA: 6.75).
LSU vs. Arkansas Best Bets:
I think we'll see plenty of runs in this game, making a half-unit on the over a solid play, even at high total like 11 runs.
I also think there's value in taking LSU at even money on the moneyline, especially if Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn needs lengthy outings from Beidelschies and/or Bybee.
While betting against the more desperate team (Arkansas) is risky, I'm comfortable backing an LSU squad that is 3-1 vs. the Hogs this year.
LSU moneyline (-105 at bet365) -- 1 unit
Over 11.0 runs (-110 at bet365) -- 1 unit

Arkansas football to allow field rushing, but only after 3-minute delay to avoid $500,000 fines

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas will allow football fans to rush the field following big wins, but only after a delay so the Razorbacks can avoid hefty fines. The Southeastern Conference's updated field rushing policy, with $500,000 fines, applies to each incident across all sports. The conference can waive the fine if the visiting team and officials are allowed to reach the locker room before fans descend. Arkansas announced Wednesday that three minutes will be placed on the videoboards inside the stadium to delay the rush and allow the visiting team, staff and officials to exit the field. 'The safety of our student-athletes and the student-athletes from the visiting institution is extremely important to all of us,' Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek said in a statement. 'By implementing this new policy, we are allowing the visiting team to clear the field so our fans can safely join our team on the field to celebrate the big win. We look forward to our fans and students complying with this policy the first time we get to implement it so we can all enjoy a huge win.' Arkansas' first big game will be Sept. 27 against No. 6 Notre Dame. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here. AP college football: and

Astros' bullpen depth exposed in series sweep by Tigers

Astros' bullpen depth exposed in series sweep by Tigers originally appeared on The Sporting News The Houston Astros lost closer Josh Hader about a week ago to shoulder soreness, and the timeline for his return during the regular season is unknown. After being swept by another World Series hopeful team in the Detroit Tigers, the Astros still sit 1.5 games up in the American League West thanks to the Phillies sweeping the Mariners. However, Houston gave up 7 and 10 runs in two of their three losses to Detroit. Astros' bullpen is being challenged without Josh Hader In the first game of the series, which was a 10-0 Tigers victory, starter Spencer Arrighetti didn't do the bullpen any favor by giving up five runs early, but Tayler Scott followed by giving up five runs of his own, and it was quickly out of hand. Astros' ace Hunter Brown turned in a marvelous start in a pitchers' duel between himself and CY Young favorite Tarik Skubal, and the bullpen performed exceptionally well except for Kaleb Ort, who issued three walks in the bottom of the 10th inning. You can't put all the blame on the pitching staff for the sweep, though. Houston scored just two runs in the series and was shut out in the first two contests. It's well known that Bryan Abreu is taking over the closer role in Hader's absence, but it's more of a matter of whether the Astros are going to put themselves into a position for him to close out games, because that remains to be seen. Abreu has been one of the best relievers in the sport, posting a 1.61 ERA in 56 innings and 84 strikeouts. He added his first save of the season over the weekend and will likely carry the closer role for another couple of weeks, until Hader does or does not return.
