Each Hajj season brings renewed stories and emotions that this spiritual journey leaves in the hearts of the pilgrims. In a special interview, Leaders met Syrian pilgrim Mr. Mohammad Aziza, who shared the unique details of his spiritual experience and the emotions that overwhelmed him as he circumambulated the holiest places on Earth. His story is one of faith and patience, reflecting the challenge and hope experienced by many Syrians on their path to Hajj.
How were preparations before traveling to holy lands?
The preparations were conducted with a high level of efficiency and organization, both administratively and logistically. All necessary procedures were followed with precision and care—from preparing official documents to organizing awareness meetings for pilgrims. Spiritually, the preparations were even deeper and richer, with guiding lectures and sessions introducing the rituals of Hajj, which helped prepare the soul to perform this great act of worship with reverence and serenity. I'm grateful to those who organized this blessed journey for their attention to the smallest details.
Did you face any difficulties obtaining the Hajj permit or visa?
Thankfully, I didn't face any notable difficulties. The organizers of the Hajj program handled all the legal and administrative steps related to obtaining the visa smoothly and professionally. The support in this area was clear, which made me feel comfortable and reassured throughout the travel preparation process. What was your experience upon arriving in Mecca? What was your first feeling?
It was an unforgettable experience in every sense of the word—truly one of the most beautiful moments of my life. The sight of Mecca was overwhelming, a mix of awe and tranquility, and a deep sense of sanctity. I felt like I was floating above the earth, stripped of all material concerns, living purely in spirit. It was a moment where tears merged with prayers, and longing blended with peace.
Did the organizing bodies provide sufficient support in terms of guidance and healthcare?
Yes, the support provided by the organizing authorities was of the highest standard. Religious and instructional guidance was offered by experienced mentors who ensured pilgrims were well-informed about every aspect of the rituals. Medical care was consistently available, with medical teams and emergency centers stationed in multiple locations, providing a sense of security and confidence throughout the journey.
My impressions were filled with spiritual emotions, as if I had left the material world and entered one of peace and tranquility. I felt my body walking, but my soul was soaring in another realm. Everything around me reminded me of the grandeur of this major pillar of Islam, filling me with awe and humility before the majesty of the moment.
Honestly, the organization was excellent. Great efforts were made to provide the best possible service for pilgrims. Even when issues or shortages occurred, they were addressed quickly and effectively. Transportation was managed in a way that considered the huge number of pilgrims, and the accommodations were comfortable and appropriately prepared for the occasion.
How do you assess role of the Saudi authorities in ensuring safety and security of pilgrims?
I deeply appreciate this role—they ensured a strong but non-intrusive security presence that was reassuring. Security personnel treated pilgrims with respect and patience, despite the immense pressure and crowd sizes. Additionally, the security measures were well thought out, and I felt very safe throughout all the stages of performing the rituals.
What is your opinion on the healthcare services provided during the Hajj season?
I believe the healthcare services offered during Hajj were excellent and reflect the significant efforts by the concerned authorities. Comprehensive and free medical care was provided across all locations, with advanced readiness to handle emergencies. Moreover, the spread of health centers and hospitals helped ensure quick response times. These services reflect the Kingdom's strong commitment to the safety of the guests of Allah. How did modern technologies (like apps and digital services) help you perform the rituals?
They contributed significantly and effectively to easing every aspect—from navigation to knowing the times and places of rituals, as well as religious and directional guidance. Official apps were extremely helpful, particularly in providing movement schedules, health alerts, and emergency guidance. It's a qualitative leap in the Hajj experience, and I hope to see this technological advancement continue.
What advice would you give to those who haven't performed Hajj yet and wish to? Do you plan to perform Hajj or Umrah again?
I advise anyone intending to perform Hajj to strictly follow all instructions from the Saudi authorities and the relevant agencies in their country, as these rules are ultimately in the pilgrim's best interest. I also recommend spiritual preparation beforehand—Hajj is not just a trip; it's a profound act of worship that requires heartfelt intention and presence. As for me, I definitely hope to repeat the experience, whether for Hajj or Umrah, whenever God allows. This journey leaves an unforgettable impact on the soul.
Hajj Season Aziza's spiritual journey was one of immense depth shaped by trials, patience, devotion, and deep gratitude. With heartfelt honesty, he shared the experiences of his pilgrimage to the sacred lands, painting such a vivid picture that we could almost feel ourselves at his side. His story goes beyond the fulfillment of a religious obligation; it stands as a moving testament to steadfast faith and resilient hope amid hardship. Finally, hajj is not simply a physical passage to Mecca it is a profound journey into the soul itself.

Pakistan urges Hajj pilgrims to follow Saudi directives on sacrifice, stoning of the devil

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Hajj Mission Makkah has advised the country's pilgrims to follow the directives issued by Saudi Arabia concerning the stoning of the devil or 'Rami Al-Jamarat' and animal sacrifice rituals during the annual Islamic pilgrimage, state-run media reported on Monday. Hajj pilgrims take part in the symbolic stoning of the devil, which is among the final rites of the pilgrimage. Pilgrims throw pebbles at three pillars in Mina, performing the ritual during the three days of the Hajj starting on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. State broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported that each Maktab will have designated timings for the act of stoning the devil on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. 'Every 'Nazim' [administrator] is bound to ensure that the intending pilgrims perform this ritual as per their allocated time slot,' Radio Pakistan said. 'Therefore, all pilgrims are advised to proceed in groups under the supervision of their 'Nazim' as per schedule.' The state broadcaster also reported that the Saudi authorities have set the time for sacrificing animals for Pakistani Hujjaj on the night between the 10th and 11th of Dhul Hijjah at 12:30 am. 'Hence, all pilgrims are urged to complete the 'Rami' of the first day before midnight,' it said. 'Pakistani Mission has strongly urged the Hujjaj to strictly follow these instructions to avoid any untoward situation.' During the Hajj pilgrimage, which concludes this year on Monday, June 9, pilgrims are required to sacrifice an animal. Nearly 89,000 Pakistanis have traveled to Saudi Arabia under the government's Hajj scheme and over 23,620 Pakistanis are performing the Hajj through private tour operators.

4,900 train journeys and 2m passengers expected on holy sites metro over 7 days of Hajj

RIYADH: Trains on the Al-Mashaaer Al-Mugaddassah Metro Line are expected to complete a total of 4,900 journeys, carrying up to 2 million passengers, in the space of just seven days during Hajj. The metro, known in English as the Sacred Sites Train Line, is a high-capacity rail system in Makkah that operates for only seven days a year, during Hajj, as a shuttle service to take pilgrims to and from holy sites. Offering insights on Monday into the transportation systems that will serve pilgrims, Saleh Al-Zuwaid, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, said comprehensive preparations have been taking place ahead of the annual pilgrimage across all travel sectors, including air, land, sea and logistics. 'So far, 3,314 flights from 238 destinations in 71 countries, via 62 air carriers, have arrived in the Kingdom,' he said. There has been a 75 percent increase in the number of trips on Haramain High Speed Railway, compared with last year, he added, and a 'Hajj without Luggage' initiative allows pilgrims arriving in Saudi Arabia to travel to Makkah by train while their luggage is transported separately for convenience. In addition, more than 25,000 buses have been provided to ensure the safe and comfortable movement of pilgrims, backed by an extensive inspections process, he said. The latest technology, including artificial intelligence, is also being deployed to enhance transportation, Al-Zuwaid said. A fleet of vehicles equipped with AI is scanning the Kingdom's roads, from arrival ports to the holy sites, to help improve safety and ensure necessary maintenance is carried out. This year, these advanced technologies have helped to maintain 7,400 kilometers of roads leading to the holy sites. Detailing advances in digital infrastructure, Saad Al-Shanbari, a spokesperson for Hajj communications and technology, said that 4G and 5G coverage in Makkah, Madinah and at the holy sites now exceeds 99 percent, with significant increases in internet speeds. More than 10,500 Wi-Fi access points have been installed to enrich the digital experience for pilgrims, he added, and AI-powered crowd-management and specialized communication systems have been implemented in collaboration with Aramco Digital, to help ensure a reliable digital experience throughout Hajj season. The spokespersons reaffirmed their commitment to providing the best possible services and encouraged pilgrims to adhere to official guidelines designed to enhance their experiences and ensure their safety. Hajj begins on Wednesday, June 4, and will continue until Monday, June 9.
