The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Jordan, Mr. Harry Verweij concluded a two-day visit to Aqaba, underscoring the Netherlands' strong and growing partnership with Jordan across key sectors.During his visit, Ambassador Verweij held high-level meetings with H.E. Nayef Al Fayez, Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), and H.E. Hussein Safadi, CEO of the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC). Discussions focused on Aqaba's Strategic development plans, strengthening economic ties, and exploring opportunities to expand cooperation in a number of key areas.Joined by the Director of the Project Management Unit (PMU) at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Mr. Saddam Khleifat, the Ambassador visited the intake site of the Aqaba-Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance Project (AAWDCP). The Netherlands recently committed €31 million in grant support to help advance the implementation of this critical infrastructure project, reflecting the Netherlands' long-standing commitment to Jordan's water security and sustainable development.'I was glad to visit the site in Aqaba personally to get a good sense of how the intake and desalination of the AAWDCP will be designed, as well as to underscore the Dutch commitment to this vital project for Jordan's future water security', said Ambassador Verweij.In addition, Ambassador Verweij toured the Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) and Aqaba Port facilities, where Dutch expertise continues to contribute to the city's trade operations and development. ACT is managed by the Dutch company APM Terminals under a 25-year build-operate-transfer agreement signed in 2006 with the ADC. APM Terminals recently received approval to extend the current concession with 15 years reaching until 2046. Mr. Harald Nijhof, CEO of ACT, presented the terminal's latest achievements in operational performance, safety enhancements, and its plans to achieve full carbon neutrality by 2040.At the Port of Aqaba, a joint Dutch-Jordanian venture, the Aqaba Port Marine Services Company (APMSCO) has been providing vital marine services such as towage, pilotage, mooring and related services since 2007. The General Manager of APMSCO, Mr. Frederik Rutgers, briefed the Ambassador on the company's operations, recent developments, and its role in ensuring safe and efficient maritime traffic at the Port of Aqaba.'I am proud to see Dutch companies playing a key role in supporting Jordan's trade and maritime infrastructure in Aqaba. Their long-term partnerships with the Government of Jordan not only reflect the strength of our bilateral relations but also contribute meaningfully to Aqaba's development as a regional logistics and trade hub,' added Ambassador Verweij.Finally, Ambassador Verweij visited the Aqaba Digital Hub, where CEO Eyad Abu Khurma presented the company's strategic vision, and led a tour of its newly completed high-tech facilities.The Ambassador's visit reinforces the Netherlands' commitment to deepening its partnership with Jordan, supporting key infrastructure projects vital to the Kingdom's future, while continually exploring possibilities for cooperation across various sectors.

The agreement was signed by Zain Jordan's CEO, Fahad Al Jasem, and the founder of the UNIFLIX project, Osama Awadallah. The signing ceremony took place at ZINC's main branch located in King Hussein Business Park in Amman. This step comes as part of Zain's broader strategy to support local startups and ideas that offer innovative solutions addressing current challenges, contributing to the acceleration of digital transformation, and building an integrated digital ecosystem that enhances service efficiency across different sectors. Zain's initiatives aim to empower national talents and entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into tangible projects with a positive impact that serves the national economy and fosters innovation. UNIFLIX is an AI-powered educational platform that offers a unique and innovative experience aimed at simplifying university students' lives through tailored tools that help them organize their studies and better understand academic material, thereby achieving improved outcomes with higher efficiency. The platform also focuses on developing both the academic and professional aspects of students by equipping them with essential market skills and strengthening their time management and decision-making capabilities to support their educational and career journeys alike. The support offered by Zain consists of financial funding amounting to 15,000 JOD, along with one year of logistical support, including accounting services, legal services, technical consulting, visual identity development, media and social media promotion, marketing services, and market access facilitation. It is worth mentioning that Zain Innovation Campus (ZINC) is committed to launching 'Zain Al-Mubadara' program annually to support new groups of young entrepreneurs and Jordanian startups. Over the past years, the program has received thousands of ideas, many of which were transformed into operational companies that enriched the local market with emerging projects across modern sectors aligned with evolving market demands. So far, 253 Jordanian startups across various sectors have benefited from ZINC's support, contributing to the creation of new job opportunities and strengthening the national economy. ZINC provides selected startups and entrepreneurial ideas with total funding of 75,000 JOD annually, with 10,000 JOD allocated to each startup and 15,000 JOD for each selected idea. This is intended to help founders build and validate their business models in line with market needs, in addition to a full year of logistical support provided by ZINC.

He affirmed that Jordan places all its available capabilities at the service of its Syrian brothers, enabling them to rebuild their institutions and providing them with the necessary expertise, particularly in the economic field, underscoring that the Kingdom will spare no effort in supporting Syria's reconstruction process. He added that from the outset of the changes witnessed in Syria, Jordan has exerted great efforts to serve the Syrian people in many areas, including facilitating the entry of goods needed by the Syrian market and enabling Syrian products to be exported through Jordanian territory. Both sides emphasized the importance of expediting the necessary steps to implement the outcomes of the economic and trade committee, which reached understandings during its meeting in Amman last month, in order to strengthen cooperation in transportation, agriculture, customs, standards and metrology, food and drug sectors, industrial cities, and free zones, in addition to a number of related technical files.
