Winter is coming – farmers recalled to action to help fight veld fires
Witbank Fire Protection Association members and their workers are invited to a basic firefighting course.
This course will be presented by Witbank Fire Department on May 17, and it will start at 09:00.
The duration of the course is approximately four hours.
You must be a member of the association to attend the course, which is presented at no cost.
Some of the benefits of being a member include free assistance from the fire department with veld fires, training for members and their workers, daily weather forecasts for planning firebreaks, and as a bonus, members receive discounts from certain insurance companies on their premiums.
The cost to join the Witbank Fire Protection Association:
One to 50 ha – R100 per year.
50 to 100 ha – R200 per year.
100 to 200 ha – R400 per year.
200 and more ha – R500 per year.

Dregs MCC bikers marks the 18th Frost Run

Motorbike enthusiasts geared up for The Dregs MCC club's 18th Frost Run on Saturday. The run kicked off at Reyno Ridge Club on July 26. The route of 160km took the 136 bikers to the Skydive Ranch just before Delmas. They stopped in Bronkhorstspruit and took the road back to eMalahleni. President of Dregs MCC, Sam Weller, was highly proud of the turnout. Sam thanked everyone who participated in the run. 'A special thanks goes out to all our sponsors. Without you, this day could not have been as successful as it was,' Sam said. Richards Bay hotrods cancelled, but drifting event lined up

Owing to the excessive heavy rains over the past few days, and with more predicted, the Winter Bash spinning event scheduled for the ZCBF showgrounds this Saturday, 26 July, has been cancelled. However, racing fans will be happy to hear that star drifters Jim Mcfarlane and East Coast Drifters will join the oval racing next Saturday, 2 August to help set the track alight with smoke and lots of angle. Jim Mcfarlane and his team have loads of experience, and will keep the crowd warm and entertained. A full field of midgets, stockrods, 1660 saloons, 2l pintos and hotrods will all be doing their best to top the championship standings. Spectators are invited to join for a day filled with drifting, racing and braai fires. Gates open at 10am and racing starts at 4pm. Entry fee is R100 for adults and R50 for children.
