Mamelodi Sundowns will officially kick off their pre-season on July 21 and focus on honing their skills at home in South Africa.
Unlike previous seasons, Sundowns will refrain from international travel and have opted for a domestic pre-season. It will mark a fresh start for a team that endured a lengthy season filled with highs and lows.
Head coach Miguel Cardoso, who has been in charge for approximately six months, has faced intense scrutiny following a heart-wrenching defeat in the CAF Champions League final against Egyptian side Pyramids FC.
Despite the criticism, which notably raised questions about Cardoso's decision to omit captain Themba Zwane from both legs of the final, the Sundowns management has publicly reaffirmed its support for the coach.

Cardoso's tactical nous was on display during Sundowns' campaign in the FIFA Club World Cup, where the team competed fiercely against elite clubs including Ulsan HD, Borussia Dortmund, and Fluminense. Despite finishing third in their group with four points and narrowly missing out on a spot in the knockout phase, Sundowns' tenacity against higher-profile opponents has been viewed positively by the club's executives.
Management has expressed satisfaction with Cardoso's work to date and is reportedly prepared to back him during the upcoming transfer window. They aim to bolster the squad in a bid to secure another shot at the elusive CAF Champions League title.
One player strongly linked with Sundowns is Stellenbosch FC left-back Fawaaz Basadien. There are also reports suggesting that management is exploring talent from the South American and European markets.
Within the squad, there is a growing belief in Cardoso's capabilities, and players are optimistic about the upcoming season. The pressure is mounting on the Portuguese coach to deliver not only the customary league title, but also additional silverware to a trophy cabinet that is rapidly filling.
One of the standout stars of the last season, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, has attracted attention from abroad following a stellar performance in the league, where he ended as the top goal scorer. His impressive efforts at the FIFA Club World Cup have further solidified his place on the radar of European scouts.
Latest reports indicate that Turkish giants Trabzonspor have taken a keen interest in the 26-year-old Brazilian forward, who showcased remarkable vision and striking ability throughout the tournament. They are reportedly looking to secure his services this summer, indicating that Costa's tenure with Sundowns could be entering its final stage.

Kaizer Chiefs news: New striker eyed as Mayele nears Saudi move

Kaizer Chiefs are keeping their striker hunt alive amid reports of Fiston Mayele's imminent exit from Pyramids FC and interest in a new target from Central Africa. The Congolese striker Mayele was a key figure in Pyramids' historic CAF Champions League triumph but looks set to leave after receiving a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, according to Egyptian journalist Ahmed Shobeir. 'Mayele is determined to leave despite being a top scorer. Pyramids officials confirmed he's a strong candidate to depart this summer,' Shobeir said. With Mayele likely off the market, Chiefs' technical staff have shifted focus to alternatives. Cameroonian striker Ravel Djoumekou, 25, currently with FC Saint Eloi Lupopo in Congo, has been offered to the club. 'He is an experienced striker and could fill a vital role at Chiefs,' a source explained. 'The club's scouts are assessing him thoroughly before making a decision.' Kaizer Chiefs already signed six new players this offseason but acknowledge that an experienced striker is still needed to bolster the squad, especially ahead of CAF Confederation Cup challenges. Another insider added, 'The club is still evaluating players. Some are well known, others less so, but if this striker matches their standards, Chiefs will consider signing him.' Meanwhile, long-term target Fawaaz Basadien is reportedly attracting interest from Mamelodi Sundowns after missing training, signalling a possible transfer. As Chiefs prepare for the new season after a European pre-season campaign, they're focused on building a balanced squad under coach Nasreddine Nabi. The pressure is on for AmaKhosi to return to winning ways after recent underwhelming performances. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
