Olympian Vinesh Phogat, husband Somvir Rathee blessed with baby boy
Former wrestling star and Congress MLA Vinesh Phogat gave birth to a baby boy on Tuesday morning at a private hospital in Delhi. This is the first child for 30-year-old Vinesh and her husband, wrestler Somvir Rathee.
Vinesh's elder brother Harvinder Phogat confirmed the news. 'Vinesh gave birth to a baby boy this morning. Both mother and baby are healthy. It's a moment of great joy for our family,' Harvinder told

Vinesh had announced her pregnancy in March on social media. She shared a photo with the message, 'Our love story continues with a new chapter,' along with baby and heart emojis. Harvinder added that Vinesh will return to Somvir's home in a few days.
'We will all visit her soon. Everyone in our village, Balali, is excited to welcome her and the baby,' he said.
The 30-year-old was disqualified from the women's 50kg final at the Paris Olympics last year for going over the weight limit. After that, she said the missed Olympic medal was the 'biggest wound' of her life but added she might return to wrestling in the future.
In September last year, Vinesh joined the Indian National Congress and later won the Julana seat in the Haryana Assembly elections by beating BJP's Yogesh Kumar. After the baby's birth, Congress leader Kumari Selja congratulated her. 'Hearty congratulations and best wishes… I pray the newborn brings happiness and good health to the family,' wrote the politician.

Vinesh also led protests against former Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who was accused of sexually harassing women wrestlers.

Washington: Donald Trump on Tuesday floated his daughter-in-law Lara Trump as a possible replacement for U.S. Senator Thom Tillis, who will not seek reelection in North Carolina after clashing with the U.S. president over his tax-cut and spending bill. "Somebody that would really be great is Lara," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One as he returned from a trip to Florida. "She grew up there, but they live in Florida," Trump said. "She's a great person, Lara Trump. I mean, that would always be my first choice. But she doesn't live there now, but she's there all the time." The North Carolina seat is seen as one of the few competitive Senate races in the 2026 midterm elections, when control of both chambers of Congress will be at stake. Tillis was one of just three Republicans to vote against Trump's signature bill, which passed on Tuesday by the narrowest of margins. It now goes back to the House of Representatives for possible final approval. Tillis cited concerns over how the proposed legislation's cuts to the Medicaid healthcare program for lower-income Americans could impact his constituents. His objection to the bill angered Trump, who said he would consider supporting challengers to Tillis before the incumbent announced he would not seek another six-year term. Lara Trump, who is married to Donald Trump's son Eric, is a native of North Carolina and served as co-chair of the Republican National Committee in the lead-up to the 2024 election. She weighed a bid to replace Senator Marco Rubio of Florida when he left Congress to become Trump's secretary of state, but ultimately decided against being considered. Earlier this year, she joined FOX News Channel and hosts the weekly show "My View with Lara Trump." While the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives is considered up for grabs next year, Democrats face an uphill battle in trying to reclaim a Senate majority. Republicans hold a 53-47 edge, and all but two Republicans who were up for election - Tillis and Susan Collins in Maine - are in states that Trump carried easily in the 2024 presidential election. Trump won North Carolina by 3 percentage points in the 2024 election. Former U.S. Representative Wiley Nickel is the most prominent Democrat who had announced a run against Tillis. Party leaders have been hoping that former Governor Roy Cooper, who remains popular in the state, will jump into the race.

In Assam's crackdown on beef, 100 eateries raided, 1,000 kg meat seized, 132 arrests
Over 100 eateries across Assam were raided on Tuesday, and police said over 1,000 kg of suspected beef was seized, in a state-wide crackdown against the unauthorised sale of beef in eateries. Assam IGP (Law and Order) Akhilesh Kumar Singh told The Indian Express that 112 eateries were searched across the state as of 8 pm Tuesday, after which 132 people were apprehended and 1,084 kg of suspected beef was seized. This comes in the backdrop of politics over beef and cattle taking centre stage in Assam over the past month, during which over 150 people were arrested in Dhubri alone after separate incidents of suspected cattle remains being recovered from near temples in Dhubri, Goalpara and Lakhimpur. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had alleged that the incidents were part of an attempt to create unrest 'since Eid ul Zuha'. Last month, Sarma had said the government would tighten the implementation of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021, in response to these incidents. While the Act does not ban the consumption of beef, it has a section that prohibits the sale of beef and beef products in areas 'which are predominantly inhabited by Hindu, Jain, Sikh and other non-beef eating communities or within a radius of 5 km of any temple, satra, or other religious institutions belonging to Hindu religion or any other institution or area as may be prescribed by the competent authority'. It also only allows the sale of beef or beef products at places 'permitted to do so by the competent authority'. Last December, Sarma had announced a complete ban on the public consumption of beef in the state, including at restaurants and community gatherings. However, a legislation or legislative amendment to this end has not been passed yet. The raids on Tuesday took place across all parts of the state. In Dibrugarh, the biggest town in eastern Assam, SSP V V Rakesh Reddy said three eateries were raided as of Tuesday evening. 'It is a crackdown against beef selling and to implement the Assam Cattle Preservation Act. We raided three hotels in the town and collected 15 kg of suspected beef from them. We also picked up three individuals. One of the eateries was operating right in front of a Kali temple. Such searches will continue,' he said. In central Assam's Nagaon district, SP Swapnaneel Deka said that 16 people had been apprehended as of Tuesday evening after raids in 15 eateries. These raids have also been reported from other districts, including Hojai, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Darrang, and Morigaon.

Muzaffarnagar police issue notices to 6 people over ‘forced Aadhaar, caste checks' on Kanwar vendors
Muzaffarnagar police on Tuesday issued notices to six members of Chatrapati Shivaji Sena, a group led by Swami Yashveer Maharaj, for allegedly conducting unauthorised Aadhaar and caste verifications of eatery owners along the Kanwar pilgrimage route, officials said on Tuesday. Station House Officer (Nai Mandi police station) Dinesh Chandra told The Indian Express that notices were sent to Sumit Bajrangi, Rohit, Vivek, Sumit, Sunny and Rakesh Datiyana, all residents of Muzaffarnagar. 'We are identifying more people involved in the campaign. The investigation is on,' he said. According to the police, the notices, dated June 28, referenced a viral video showing the group inspecting identity and birth certificates at Pandit Jee ka Dhaba on National Highway-58. 'It is to notify you that you were checking the Aadhaar card and other birth related documents of people running eateries and hotels along the National Highway-58 without informing the administration. A video of the same has surfaced on social media,' read the notice. The statement also directed the individuals to submit a written answer for their actions within three days as to why there should not be an action taken against you, read the notice. On June 28, a video of a man identified as Gopal, a worker at Pandit Jee Ka Dhaba, purportedly went viral on social media in which he alleged that a group of men asked him to get naked to confirm his religion. 'They came and checked my Aadhaar card and then removed my pants. They were checking my religion,' Gopal is heard telling in the viral video. However, when The Indian Express contacted the Muzaffarnagar police, to see if they had received a complaint from Gopal, the police said that he was yet to submit a written complaint. Sumit Bajrangi, a local Shivaji Sena leader, defended the checks as part of a campaign aimed at ensuring eateries use names matching their owners' faiths. He said they found Pandit Jee Vaishno Bhojnalaya registered under a Muslim name and demanded consistency. 'At Pandit Dhaba, the QR code is under a Muslim name, while the hotel has a Hindu name. We have no issue with the owner, but the hotel should reflect his Muslim name. A Hindu name won't be accepted, and Yashver Jee will protest,' Bajrangi said.
