Rebecca was newly single. What happened next was a secret she kept for 16 years... until now

Daily Mail30-07-2025
Rebecca was newly single after her relationship ended - but what happened next left her so ashamed, she kept it a secret for 16 years.
The woman, from New Zealand, said she fell head over heels for another man shortly after her split from her boyfriend of two years.
'After we broke up, I fell in love with someone very quickly, but I have kept the details of who that person was a secret for the last 16 years,' Rebecca - whose voice was altered to hide her identity - told The Edge Breakfast during a segment called the Truth Booth.
The only person who knew about her secret 30-year age gap romance was her now-partner.
'When I started dating (new partner), I kind of just put everything on the table, all my mistakes... Not really a mistake, but I guess at the time... it's kind of something I have been ashamed of,' she said.
Radio hosts Ash London, Clinton Randell and Dan Webby were all on the edge of their seats as they begged her to unveil the man she's been keeping a secret for 16 years.
'So the person was my ex-boyfriend's father,' Rebecca said, as the radio trio gasped.
'When my ex and I were together, I never thought of his dad in that way, but I think after we broke up, his dad started hanging out with me.
'We'd be in groups and at parties... and we just sort of naturally started gravitating to each other and found that we got along and we had a lot of fun together.'
Adding to the shock, the older man is a family friend so he's always around in her life because he knows her parents.
'He's still a family friend and he's one of my siblings' bosses,' she said.
Rebecca said she ended up in a secret relationship with her ex-boyfriend's dad, who's 30 years older than her.
'We just had an agreement that it was just going to be what it was and no one really needed to know about it,' she explained.
'It was definitely more emotional than a sexual relationship.'
Keeping the relationship under wraps from everyone - including his son, her ex-boyfriend - for 16 years was challenging, but Rebecca said it was 'worth it'.
'We had fun and we're still actually good friends now, so it's almost like it never happened... like it did happen, but we've just gone back to friends,' she explained.
Ash chimed in, saying: 'It's like a beautiful dream and you're not hurting anyone.
'Nothing you did was illegal. Nothing was really immoral, consenting adults, it's absolutely fine. You had a great time, but man, it's a great story, Rebecca,' Ash said.
Rebecca agreed, saying: 'Yes, it was fun, definitely fun.'
The video has been viewed more than 30,000 times - with many filled with mixed emotions over her relationship bombshell.
'Oh nah! Not the ex's dad! Boyfriend to step son,' one said, laughing.
'Omg! I'm obsessed with this segment! Obsessed! So juicy,' another shared.
'The math ain't making sense... 30 years and you got no house out of it?' one joked.
While another pointed out: 'NGL (not gonna lie), having these segments on before 9am is crazy! Kids in the car on the way to school and hearing this.'
Meanwhile, some took particular issue with her ex-boyfriend's dad for crossing the line, with one slamming: 'What the old man did was beyond disgusting.'
'Worst father,' another criticised.
