There have been goals galore at the Etihad this afternoon and Barry Glendenning is your man for that game's final knockings. Manchester City v Crystal Palace: Premier League – live Share
Leeds and Sheffield United are both winning in the Championship early kickoffs – but only by slender margins. Still a good 15 minutes plus added time remaining at Elland Road and Home Park, with Plymouth – 1-0 down to the Blades – in need of some inspiration to kickstart their fading survival hopes. Share

Although the Premier League is fizzling out somewhat – save for the semi-interesting top five tussle for Champions League qualification – the rest of the English pyramid is far from done and dusted. So while Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa will try to boost their European hopes this afternoon, the real juice is to be found elsewhere.
Take the Championship for instance, where there's everything to play for and everything to lose in the fight for automatic promotion, the playoffs and survival. Of particular interest today are Cardiff v Stoke and Portsmouth v Derby at the bottom, while Leeds and Sheffield United are currently in action, having kicked off at 12.30pm.
League One and Two are equally unpredictable, while there's still (just about) a Bundesliga title race on, with Bayer Leverkusen looking to cut the gap to leaders Bayern Munich to just three points – before the Bavarians face Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker from 5.30pm.
Plenty to get our teeth into, so why not drop me an email to chat our Saturday afternoons away? Let's go. Share

'I am not bitter' - Mbappe on PSG Champions League win
Kylian Mbappe says he is not bitter over Paris St-Germain's Champions League victory less than a year after leaving the club for Real forward left PSG as the club's record goalscorer but was unable to win European football's premier club competition in seven seasons with the French giants before signing for Madrid on a free transfer in July cruised past Inter Milan 5-0 to win their first Champions League title on 31 May."I didn't leave too soon; my story with PSG was over. I am not bitter; I had reached the end of the road," said France captain Mbappe, who scored 256 goals for on Saturday at a news conference before France's Nations League third-place match with Germany, Mbappe added: "I tried everything, and it was destiny that meant it had to happen without me."PSG winning the Champions League without me doesn't affect me. I was happy - I think they deserved it."They've had so many years where they struggled. I've been there too; I've played in every Champions League stage in Paris except for the victory."They're the best team in Europe. I don't remember seeing a team win 5-0 in a major final."The closes Mbappe came to Champions League success with his boyhood club was a runners-up medal following defeat by Bayern Munich in the 2020 final. Mbappe's Madrid, who were knocked out by Arsenal at the quarter-final stage of last season's Champions League, ended the campaign without a trophy for the first time in four years. The 26-year-old did enjoy some success, though, after scoring 31 La Liga goals to win the European Golden Shoe.

Liverpool star pushes for transfer exit ahead of imminent Florian Wirtz arrival
Liverpool are closing in on a club-record deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, but the German's arrival could spell the end for another of Arne Slot's players Federico Chiesa is set to push for a summer exit from Liverpool, with Florian Wirtz closing in on a move to Anfield. Chiesa joined the Reds last summer in a £10million deal from Juventus. But he has found his opportunities on Merseyside limited in the extreme. The Italian made just 14 appearances in all competitions, registering only two goals, with Arne Slot preferring Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo on the wings. Chiesa was handed just one Premier League start and even that only came in the penultimate game of the campaign, after Liverpool had wrapped up the title. The 27-year-old was generally seen as the sixth-choice attacking option by Slot. He could slip even further down the pecking order after Liverpool complete their business this summer. The Reds are pushing hard to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Wirtz in what would be a club record deal. They submitted an improved offer for the German on Saturday and an agreement is expected to be reached. That has placed Chiesa in a difficult position as bids to return to the Italy squad in time for next summer's World Cup. It is understood that with Wirtz on his way in, Chiesa is now looking to cut his stay with Liverpool short. The attacker's priority is on securing a move back to his native Italy. While he loves Liverpool as a club and city, his limited game time has become a serious issue. Several Serie A sides have already started talks and are seeking to be kept informed on any room for a deal. Chiesa's decision to seek an exit comes as somewhat of a U-turn from the 27-year-old. On Friday, he insisted he was happy on Merseyside and that he would be happy to remain with the Reds. He told Corriere dello Sport: 'The year is over. But it's an experience I would do again. Soon I will sit down at the table with the club, Fali (Ramadani, his agent) and my family to find the best solution. I wouldn't mind staying in Liverpool at all. "You accept the choices as a professional and you move on. In the first few months there were many difficulties, if you think that I arrived in Liverpool on August 26 and found myself catapulted to another planet, with other teammates, without having trained with them. "At the beginning I felt the frustration of the radical change and of being far behind the group, then there was the injury. Could I start to discuss the choices of Slot who has always been very respectful towards me, as well as the club? The desire to play was there, I put it aside, I understood the situation." The news regarding Chiesa comes as Liverpool submitted an improved bid for Wirtz. The new offer is for £100m to be paid to Leverkusen upfront, with an extra £13m in add-ons. That is an improvement on the original £109m bid Liverpool submitted, with the Reds having no intention of agreeing to the £126.4m price tag Leverkusen have slapped on the playmaker.

Mbappe unfazed by PSG winning Champions League without him
June 7 (Reuters) - Kylian Mbappe said he was happy to see his former team Paris St Germain win the Champions League for the first time this season despite having left the club a year ago in acrimonious circumstances to join Real Madrid. PSG thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 last week to win Europe's premier club competition for the first time, having lost in the 2020 final to Bayern Munich. "I was happy, they deserved it, they've been through so many problems, I've been through that too. I've been through every stage of the Champions League except winning it," Mbappe told reporters on Saturday. "They were the best team in Europe. I can't remember ever seeing them go 5-0 up. It's 100% deserved, they're becoming the team everyone wants to beat." Mbappe left PSG on a free transfer last year as the team's all-time top scorer, but the 26-year-old took his former club to court over 55 million euros ($62.67 million) in unpaid wages. Mbappe scored 43 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid but they failed to win any major trophy, finishing runners-up in LaLiga and the Copa del Rey to Barcelona while getting knocked out in the Champions League quarter-finals by Arsenal. But the France forward said there were no hard feelings as he watched his former team mates lift the trophy they had coveted for years. "PSG won the Champions League without me, that doesn't affect me. That's a good thing. I think we all face challenges in our careers," Mbappe said. "I'm a bit more in the eye of the storm, which is good. I've always liked being in these positions, it's up to me to work. I've reversed quite a few trends in my career, I've had a lot of things stuck on my back and I've managed to get them off. "Did I leave too soon? No, my story was over, it had to end. There was no bitterness, I'd reached the end of my tether." Mbappe also said he would vote for PSG forward Ousmane Dembele over Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal to win the Ballon d'Or for the best player of the year. Dembele scored 33 goals and made 15 assists in all competitions as PSG also won the Ligue 1 title and the French Cup to accomplish a rare treble. "Would I vote for Dembele? Yes. Is there really any need to explain?... I'm going for Dembele. It's very clear," he said. ($1 = 0.8777 euros)
